AIBU to hope the USA crash out the World Cup because of this FIFA corruption?

I'm no fan of Trump, but until this red card nonsense I hoped the USA would do well. I always think it's good when the tournament hosts do well.
But now it's come out that Trump personally called FIFA to get the red card removed? Absolute joke. It’s blatant corruption. I really hope Belgium absolutely humiliate them.

I think whether it should have been a red card isn't the main point. There are plenty of decisions that could be challenged. That's just the nature of the game.

Belgium 4 - 1 USA. Nothing can turn this around now.

Lukaku sauntering on for his customary cameo 🤣

Fantastic result!

JulySheWillFlyAndGiveNoWarningToHerFlight · Yesterday 03:01

The right result - full time

1:4 USA: Belgium.

Even with Mr Trump's intervention.

What a result!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🌊

Fantastic😁

I've seen so many Americans on social media suggesting that it's a good thing that Trump intervened. Because the red card was undeserved. They just don't get it at all. That the optics on this are atrocious. They are utterly clueless.

I hope they get knocked out in the next round.

*ooh...looks like my wish will be granted. 🎊🎉Go Belgium!!

Genuine question - when has a red card been cancelled at a World Cup match before?

Ronaldo got a red card in the qualifying games and because of the nature of the offence got a 3 match ban. As he’s one of the Goats FIFA made him sit out one match against Armenia but have delayed / suspended his punishment for the other two matches so he could participate in this World Cup.

It’s being argued that this set a precedent to allow red card against Balogan to be similarly kicked into long grass due to “reasons”.

Well done Belgium. Great result for football.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 03:24

I'm in the US and cheered for Belgium all the way. I could hear my next door neighbours on both sides, and upstairs neighbours, all cheering the Belgian goals too.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 03:26

Just saw the Belgians posted 'overturn this' on their SM.

The USA have absolutely had their arse handed to them tonight.

Belgium were fired up from the start and humiliated the US who weren’t ever in the game.

The Belgian FA have threatened to continue to pursue this. They released a statement this afternoon describing how FIFA denied them an explanation and withheld documents they were legally obliged to provide. I hope they are as good as their word and go after Infantino and FIFA.

Trump is Trump - he’s corrupt as fuck and no one seems to be able to do anything. But the US have made a mockery of the World Cup what with the mandatory hydration breaks in cool, air conditioned stadiums which were suddenly introduced for “player safety” when actually it was so the US could go for an ad break, and now pressuring FIFA.

I’m so glad Belgium won - for the sanctity of the tournament as well as proving that cheats don’t prosper!

According to one article, that hasn't happened since 1962!

After the global backlash and the humiliating thrashing of team Amurrica! tonight, I'm not sure any leader would be stupid enough to repeat Trump's own goal.
It may have repercussions for FIFA though.

Not necessarily presidents or pm's asking for decisions/red cards to be overturned, but teams can now point to this as the example.
I think Infantino needs to go.

I think Infantino needs to go.

That's a given. But I don't think he'll go without a fight.

Oh, 💯
And from the IOC, too.

FIFA really have brought the game into disrepute. Infantino should hang his head in shame.

I’ll be cheering Belgium on very loudly.

Another thing. The US is hosting the next summer Olympic Games. I can’t bear to think about how they will be corrupted.

His name must be in Epstein file.

I wouldn't punish the USA team for something that Trump's done.

It's not really Trump that's the problem though is it (in this 1 instance)? It's FIFA.

DontBuyAnotherBook · Yesterday 06:18

Apart from Putin and maybe a few in the Gulf states no I couldn't see anyone else doing it. I sympathise with the team and fans as I doubt they wanted it to happen but karma has been served.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · Yesterday 06:30

im hoping the carded player scores an own goal

ComePlayMyTrombolise · Yesterday 06:48

I expect Trump will be on the phone to Infantino today to get the US loss overturned as they should have won and ‘I’m good at these things’ doncha know!
