AIBU to hope the USA crash out the World Cup because of this FIFA corruption?

I'm no fan of Trump, but until this red card nonsense I hoped the USA would do well. I always think it's good when the tournament hosts do well.
But now it's come out that Trump personally called FIFA to get the red card removed? Absolute joke. It’s blatant corruption. I really hope Belgium absolutely humiliate them.

I think whether it should have been a red card isn't the main point. There are plenty of decisions that could be challenged. That's just the nature of the game.

Thank fuck for that.

Do you think Trump is unique? Do you think he's so intelligent that he is the only one to have thought to do this or do you think he did it, because it's the done thing, but decided to broadcast it for some reason?

That’s an odd way to look at it - that it’s intelligent to think to do what he did.

Also you’re suggesting it’s the done thing, but leaders don’t usually broadcast it. But what previous controversial surprising decisions have been made after matches (needs to be after the match so there’s time for a political intervention, even if that intervention is kept quiet)? If it’s the “done thing” there must be loads of examples.

Trump is a cancer. Everything he touches dies and rots. Corrupt, unhinged, revolting creature. He needs to be impeached.

Meadowfinch · Yesterday 07:06

In 2026 America is "great again".

They're even reduced to cheating at football !!

Well done Belgium.

Ronaldo got a red card in the qualifying games and because of the nature of the offence got a 3 match ban. As he’s one of the Goats FIFA made him sit out one match against Armenia but have delayed / suspended his punishment for the other two matches so he could participate in this World Cup.

It’s being argued that this set a precedent to allow red card against Balogan to be similarly kicked into long grass due to “reasons”.

Ah thank you. The way it was spoken about on this thread was as though it was happening regularly!

They have. Good. 👍

It is objectively hilarious that Belgium spanked them while resting their best player (KDB)

Dontgetstuckinthepast · Yesterday 07:35

This is the result I wanted to wake up to. Well done Belgium.

Echobelly · Yesterday 07:37

The best thing is the Belgium team did Trump's stupid 'drunk uncle' dance after winning 😂

IglesiasPiggl · Yesterday 07:41

The USA was never going to win, because they're not a top footballing nation. I guess Trump's struggling with that because he thinks paying to host something makes you the winner. Bigly. 😂

I’m glad of the score but also feel a bit sorry for the decent team members and fans of the USA. I also don’t approve of sending messages directed at the suspended player. Like he said he accepted the red card when he was given it and then accepted the decision when he was told he could play. He didn’t play a part in the corruption.

I’ve yet to watch any of it but reading one article, it seemed the atmosphere was different from the team and fans. I wonder what the score would have been without this.

He should’ve refused to play, really.

Agreed. None of the US players have done anything wrong here. I feel for them, can't imagine this is how any of them wanted their round of 16 match to go.

It's good for the game that this kind of corruption keeps fucking things up for the recipients though. The Ronaldo delay was awful, but it's also possibly made Portugal a worse team. If I were Portuguese I think I'd have preferred him banned during the world cup!

And the manager could have refused to play him.

FIFA now looking at the legitimacy of the result. Possible rematch incoming.
