AIBU to hope the USA crash out the World Cup because of this FIFA corruption?

I'm no fan of Trump, but until this red card nonsense I hoped the USA would do well. I always think it's good when the tournament hosts do well.
But now it's come out that Trump personally called FIFA to get the red card removed? Absolute joke. It’s blatant corruption. I really hope Belgium absolutely humiliate them.

I think whether it should have been a red card isn't the main point. There are plenty of decisions that could be challenged. That's just the nature of the game.

Correct decision for the player to be reinstated to play, was never a red card in the first place. The FIFA president was always going to side with his best buddy Trump.

Maybe this is why America should not be hosting it. Half of them don't even understand the rules.

I think it's fair to say the players aren't to blame and have actually been put in an awkward position. They could decide not to play Balogun. If Balogun plays I'm sure he'll be booed at every touch of the ball. Like someone else said Trump has tainted them by his interference. If they do well it will tainted by this.

You could argue that about any cheating in any sport - fielding illegible players, injuring opposition players because of poor tackles/checks, taking performance enhancing drugs - but hey as long as your team/country wins it doesn't matter.

I don't think the USA will win but I think whoever does win will be as a result of a fix.

This is exactly what the American supporters of any sport seem to do anyway. I was shocked when I first heard it.

I suspect that it's possible to manipulate the outcomes by corrupt refereeing. Nothing would surprise me now.

America have been put in an impossible position, not playing your best player is absolutely not what anyone would expect of any other team national or not.. it would never happen.

Unless you think women's sport doesn't count? The most watched world cup in America was the women's. Do female gold medals count for less too?

Additionally the people who follow football tend to absolutely not be right-wing and there's a huge following in the Spanish speaking demographic too. Money of course is also made on ticket prices which will go through the roof for anything near the final.

Honestly, I didn't want them to win because football is one of the few international sports they don't dominate over. Now, though I appreciate it's not the players' fault, the idea that the President can just ring up like an angry Dad and change the decision made in a match just puts the tin lid on it.

Just because the red card has been removed doesn’t mean the coach will select him to play? The team should protest, and as an American I will be ashamed if they don’t.

I didn't see it, but I understand it was a harsh red car. As Wayne Rooney said, FIFA should remove it or leave as is. This decision is contrary to the rules so it's absolutely a farce.
