I mean really, this is just pathetic. No one is believing that KC couldn’t find a spare bed for his son. AIBU to think that as the parent KC needs to get a grip and grow up instead of just fuelling the drama?

Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will not stay at palace

Royal sources say the Duke of Sussex had not responded to the offer of accommodation at a Royal residence by the deadline last week.

Buckingham Palace is the HQ of the Royal Family, with accommodation included. The late QE2 lived at BP when she was in London, and so there was a full complement of staff (footmen, maids, catering, security, cleaning etc). Like a very posh hotel. So it was probably very easy to accommodate unexpected visitors at short notice like your granddaughters boyfriend.

KC3 lives at Clarence House, so BP now is mainly for the admin of the Head of State and ceremonial purposes. A skeleton staff are assigned to the accommodation part of BP to keep it ticking over and if it’s needed eg to host other Heads of State, then staff are reassigned from other Royal residences to bring up the numbers. The deadline for Harry was for 48 hours notice to re-jig the rotas which I think is still cutting it fine for the staff (who actually would earn more money working for the aforementioned posh hotels). I can’t see Harry beings low maintenance guest saying he’d eat in the staff canteen at BP and strip the beds when he leaves. He’d want the full works like in Granny’s day.

But then why would Charles offer BP then?

The whole drama this time has been caused by the King offering accommodation for Harry, and then offering it in the most inconvenient location from the range of properties he had available to offer. If he’d never offered and not then briefed about it, there would be no issue now.

BruFord · 06/07/2026 19:33

I doubt that KC is a great Dad by most people's standards, but I don't think he's intentionally horrible. This was about staffing arrangements and Harry didn't let them know in time.

Harry comes across as ridiculous nowadays. It's a real shame; he makes missteps all over the place.

Central London is 'inconvenient' now?

Seriously?

I guess if it wasn't 'convenient' enough for the Dook, then he could have politely declined the offer. So there really wouldn't be a problem, would there?

All the property they have & he's offered somewhere that is currently being renovated?

Seems odd.

So will it be just him?

Have the places he used to have gone to others now?

This is the question you should be asking. Why did they offer Buckingham palace when it’s primarily offices and has been under renovation for years. Literally workmen crawling all over the place. Why not Kensington palace or Windsor? Thats what’s interesting for me. I think it sends a message and Harry knows what it means.

Other than that then the whole security / staff issue is obviously a headache for everyone. He will be travelling with his own US security ( some who were his former Met security ) but I don’t know how they integrate with his protection teams in the UK. He will want them to stay with him which may be the reason they don’t want him at other locations where other members of the Royal household are resident.

I think he’s always been a crap dad, to be honest

Nope I'd disagree.
You just need to watch him with Louis at the Queens jubilee celebrations. I think behind the scenes he was a very active Dad.

Pootles34 · 06/07/2026 16:08

It's not just a spare bed though is it - I'm sure if it was just a room in a personal house that would be fine, but I imagine running a palace is a bit more involved.

Surely they would need a whole team of staff to look after them, not least from a security pov?

Is all the work ar BH finished now? Does he really think it's a matter of putting bedding on, running the hoover and duster round and giving the bathroom a bit of a spruce up? He has lived in this world almost all his life and knows better.

kittensinthekitchen · 06/07/2026 19:44

It never fails to amuse and bemuse me how many utterly fucking batshit people there are who talk about these people like they actually know them.

Seriously, get some fucking help.

Bit of extra toilet roll, overtime for the kitchen staff, and Bob's yer uncle (or Andy)

He did the same with the Coronation, he didn't condescend to inform the Palace of his intentions, when he was coming, was he being allowed to come without the klingon, no wonder he ended up behind Anne's lovely plume!

Uncle Andy has a few spare rooms even in his reduced circumstances.

MrsFaustus · 06/07/2026 19:48

I didn’t realise Clarence House didn’t have any spare rooms…..

Totalmayhem · 06/07/2026 19:49

Harry was offered Buck Palace and he turned it down🤷‍♀️. He then changed his mind and it was too late. Harry has had months to plan this and is a victim of his own stupidity, nothing else.

Newname26 · 06/07/2026 19:41

I think this too. I think he's a very private dad - generally in public he has his "king" face on which is the quintessential stiff upper lip.

Harry wants us all to know how he was never taught to ride a bike, never hugged etc. Except that private photos from when Harry was young have since been found which show - shock, horror - that Harry was lying. Again. Photos of him riding bikes with his dad, having a piggy back, and general, loving photos with his dad hugging him. It's all such bollocks from Montecito.

I think Diana was pretty good at manipulating the press before social media was a thing. I liked Diana; she did loads of really good work and made such a difference...but I'm aware she was very skilled at persuading the press that Charles was the bad guy.

And I think this perception has just continued, probably unfairly. When you see Charles with his grandchildren, and even with William and Catherine, he seems to have warm and loving relationships.

nonumbersinthisname · 06/07/2026 19:52

But then why would Charles offer BP then?

@FancyBiscuitsLevel Because that’s where the RF put up their guests, like an internal posh hotel or a very large scale granny annexe in the garden. It’s not unliveable at the moment, there’s plenty of fully functioning rooms/apartments. They just need a bit of notice to fire it all up - it sounds like KC was willing to put the funds in for the overtime etc necessary to do this, but there are practicalities in employing human beings who have contracts of employment and reasonable expectations around rota changes outside a state emergency.

But Harry seemed to think staff are all “grey men” or complete underlings with no rights to a life of their own. Credit to KC for supporting his staff.

Lomonald · 06/07/2026 19:53

Princess Diana was a self absorbed woman and had many affairs and languished around pools and islands surrounding herself with yes people, yet people hold her up as some sort of example of sainthood.

@Divebar2021 You make a good point. Keeping him away from the rest of the family could be the reasoning behind offering BP. Aside from his security details, he's probably not trusted by anyone in the family now, it's really sad tbh.

diddl · 06/07/2026 19:55

Because that’s where the RF put up their guests,

Perhaps if he hadn't shit on so many of them he'd be invited to stay as a brother/cousin/nephew?

Newname26 · 06/07/2026 18:39

Do you honestly believe that? I think that poor me, sob story.

Keeping in mind both Grandparents were at Balmoral, his Dad was there too, Princess Ann was probably there too (Peter and Zara were both at Balmoral) plus whatever staff were there.

It reported that Charles woke William first and together they woke Harry.
I don't buy that nobody hugged the boys.

I doubt I'm the only person who could say in complete honesty that I was definitely not hugged until I found the first boy prepared to show interest in me when I was 15.

Some people's parents don't/didn't believe in it 'You'd never see The Queen giving her children a hug, what on earth would anybody do that for, they must have something wrong with them; how dare you embarrass me at your grandfather's funeral, I was told you'd got a face on you at the back, how typical of you to try to make it all about you by looking sad' and so on.

Emotionally stunted, emotionally neglectful people exist.

Oh come on. You can't compare what someone is like as a grandparent to what they are like as a parent. My parents are amazing with my kids but they were completely different with my siblings and I. Mainly because there grandchildren have really hands on parents so they play a different role.
You can dislike Harry and still not think Charles is a great Dad. There not mutually exclusive.

Triskellion75 · 06/07/2026 20:01

When it comes to stories about H&M in the press I always, always take them with a pinch of salt. They could literally end world poverty and the Dail Mail would still rip them to pieces.

KC was a shitty husband and probably a fairly inept father too.

GrandmasCat · 06/07/2026 20:07

Let’s not forget that poor Harry is a multimillionaire, with expensive taste and no longer abiding by the rules and expectations that apply to working royals.

He has been dithering about accepting an invitation, he missed the deadline. End off.

As for the security he wants all of us taxpayers to cover? Why us, he is not doing any official work and is just being treated like any other VIP/celebrity who receive intelligence from the police and some protection awarded on a case by case basis, but don’t expect tax payers to cover their security expenses.

If I were KC, I would be at the end of my tether about having a spoilt child causing a PR crisis every time and crying to the press every time he is given the opportunity to get close.

diddl · 06/07/2026 20:09

KC is obviously a product of his upbringing.

I think there was a clip of the late Queen retuning rom somewhere & she bent down & shook his hand!

There's also the famous pic of Diana beaming with arms outstretched ready to hug the boys on return from somewhere.

Pretty sure Charles was standing back waiting for his turn!

Ponoka7 · 06/07/2026 20:14

Well Jimmy Savile was Charles chief advisor for 20 years, so what do we expect. Although Charles did find room, at Sandringham, for the pedophile Peter Ball, so there should be room somewhere, for his son. I wonder who Andrew notified that he'd invited Epstein to Buckingham Palace, seeing as so much prep is needed. Are we really buying this shit?

Uricon2 · 06/07/2026 20:16

Harry is entitled and I think this whole thing has been set up by him to 'prove a point', ie that he was not welcome in a royal residence. Sob sob sob poor Harry.

Except that he has done this to himself. Charles has seen through it, outflanked him and everyone knows this. Anyone thinking this is not how royal families behave has never heard of the Angevins or the Plantagenets (before we get to the Tudors)

It really is a business, and Harry knows that. He's just not clever or well advised enough (again, probably due to him and Meghan) to play the game.

PenelopePinkerton · 06/07/2026 20:18

The entire family are dysfunctional.
