AIBU to wish women’s T-shirts and tops were made a bit longer?

kolpa · 04/07/2026 17:13

I do wish women’s t-shirts were 3-4cm longer in length. I’m 5ft 8 and some t-shirts are too short in the length. It just needs a few cm longer and looks better. It would not drown the shorter ladies.

I do buy men’s t-shirts but I want some tops with feminine designs etc

5’1 and would prefer shorter. T shirts are much more flattering when they hit waist level rather than stretch awkwardly over hips and arse and look like a sack. Perhaps they should make them in a variety of lengths. Uniqlo are good.

I prefer them shorter.

Me too. Boxy t shirts, jumpers etc definitely suit me better. I'm 5ft 10.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 05/07/2026 06:00

I'm 5'11, long waisted, and prefer the current cuts too. They work well with high waisted pants. I hate the extra bulk created when I have to tuck my tops in.

I agree with you on shorts though, OP!

kolpa · 05/07/2026 06:18

Also as I’m 18/20, these sizes go quickly and loads of 10 and 24 left

I don’t care if it’s fashion but I don’t want people to see my belly.

Some places produce shorter clothes because it is cheaper to do so. Less fabric to quicker to manufacture. Then convince people it is the trendy thing to wear. But it really is about money.

herewegoagainonwednesday · 05/07/2026 07:17

I only buy men’s shirts and t-shirts. All the women’s stuff with its enormous cleavages, random holes and low quality- can’t be asked. I don’t need to advertise my body.

redstick · 05/07/2026 07:50

I used to prefer longer t-shirts but in recent years a lot of them have become shapeless, so longer ones stretch unflatteringly over my hips and bum, with a massive baggy area around my waist.

ProfessorBinturong · 05/07/2026 08:29

BAM does some long ones. And usually has sensible pictures so you can see which are long and which are short.

I have recently discovered the land’s end usa site. A women’s tall section that has a range of tall tops far superior than a uk offer. I get my colorful work shirts from them. It’sheaven not to have to have a boring white shirt, or shirts with silly puff sleeves and frills from uk tall sections. Because there’s less red tape than eu imports, deliveries are relatively quick.

Loads of larger sizes at lands end usa site

Denim4ever · 05/07/2026 10:02

I'm tall and I wear a lot of mens jumpers. T shirts not so much as the necks are too high. It can work to size up. Zara is a case in point as their sizing is really small. I bought a faux leather size large jacket there years ago, it's not even loose on me

bridgetreilly · 05/07/2026 10:09

YABVU! You are taller than average, OP. I am average height and most t-shirts are already longer than I like them.

MidnightMeltdown · 05/07/2026 11:04

YANBU I am average height and find lots of tops too short. Especially in Whistles! I find it annoying when things are too short to tuck in securely. Nothing worse than lifting your arms up and having your top ride halfway up your body exposing your tummy!

kolpa · 05/07/2026 11:10

I wear men’s jumpers and hoodies as longer, thicker, can bend arms in them, high neck (jumpers). Plus cheaper than ladies. Esp with Xmas jumpers. As don’t pay for sparkly bits

Though want a cornflower blue hoodie

100% agree. Most women's tops are too short for me, i think it's because much younger women prefer cropped tops, and as always the needs and wants of older women are being ignored. I don't want "boxy" shaped tops and i certainly don't want my midriff on show.

JassyRadlett · 05/07/2026 11:14

While we're at it, can we get dresses from the long/tall range that are actually cut proportionately for tall people, rather than just having a longer skirt? Sick of ordering "long" and ending up with a waistline mid-ribcage.

Sorry but it would. Far too often I end up with t shirts that look like medieval tunics as it is.

The answer is more differentiation, as men get with their clothes, not one size doesn't fits all. My DH was amazed to discover that you can't buy women's trousers by length and have to try them on and or hope for the best!

Yes! I find it infuriating that men's clothes are better designed than women's, usually better fabrics and yet are generally cheaper. And they get an enormous range of different sizing options.

Lots of tshirts in various styles. Some longer, some shorter. Some boxy, some fitted. Different sleeve styles.

When I was younger, it always seemed to be that whatever was in fashion at the time was all you could buy... Either that or buy very middle aged styles.
Nowadays it's so easy to find different styles in comparison.

Yes. Men’s tops are usually cotton or cotton mix. Women’s- polyester or lower % cotton.

I disagree. I am 5' 3" and I cannot find semi fitted tops to sit on my waist band for love nor money, they are all way too long ending on the hip. I was introduced to 'boxy' t-shirts but imo they do not sit well.

Yes please! I'm only 5'7", hardly unusual, yet dress waistbands usually sit somewhere round my second rib.

CherryPieToday · 05/07/2026 19:05

And summer dresses that are long enough to actually cover my bum.

I got some lovely vests and t-shirts in Netherlands when I was last there. Much longer than UK shops (people there are generally taller). Maybe seek out some NL brands and see if they ship to UK.
