AIBU to wish women’s T-shirts and tops were made a bit longer?

I do wish women’s t-shirts were 3-4cm longer in length. I’m 5ft 8 and some t-shirts are too short in the length. It just needs a few cm longer and looks better. It would not drown the shorter ladies.

I do buy men’s t-shirts but I want some tops with feminine designs etc

I have started buying men's ones partly for this reason. Though they fit differently and not always better!

Darragon · 04/07/2026 17:16

Sorry I disagree. All the vest tops I bought ended up being “longline” about 3 years ago and they’re horrible, they just bunch up around my stomach when I sit, and the bottom of them looks weird and bulky over my trousers/jeans or tucked in. Almost as bad as those godawful tops that show my midriff. There is definitely a middle ground here! 5’6” for reference.
I do think retailers should make the length clearer though on online listings.

ponyprincess · 04/07/2026 17:16

I am with you- always looking for this!

At least have options as there often are for trouser length 8

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/07/2026 17:18

Can I add a plea for women's jumpers to actually come down over the waistband, not leave me with a cold middle? I wear a jumper because it's cold, not just to drape some knitwear over me, and I don't want to wear men's clothes because they swamp me.

nj32 · 04/07/2026 17:18

Yes! Just over 5ft 8 have the same issues!

Izzyink · 04/07/2026 17:19

I agree. I hate short tops and T shirts. I'm quite tall and spend my life looking for longer tops and trousers.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 04/07/2026 17:19

Yes, I’m 5’8” and have same issues!! I like my maternity vests as they’re long 🤣

millymollymoomoo · 04/07/2026 17:20

The answer is short /regular/long like they for trousers! I’m with you op - need a few more cm!

WhatNoRaisins · 04/07/2026 17:20

I'm short with a short torso and I've still had to switch to things like mens jumpers. I'm not a fan of belly button length tops.

SusanChurchouse · 04/07/2026 17:20

I feel like T-shirts got shorter and wider a few years ago. Spark Company ones are a good length, so I just buy those now.

MonsterasEverywhere · 04/07/2026 17:24

Fellow 5'8" here and yes please! Also, jackets that fit on the sleeve. Last year I tried a raincoat on...the sleeves came to my elbows! What good is that?!

anotherhamsandwich · 04/07/2026 17:25

It would not drown the shorter ladies.

Sorry but it would. Far too often I end up with t shirts that look like medieval tunics as it is.

The answer is more differentiation, as men get with their clothes, not one size doesn't fits all. My DH was amazed to discover that you can't buy women's trousers by length and have to try them on and or hope for the best!

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 04/07/2026 17:26

I tend to buy from the tall section for tops. I’m also 5ft 8 but have to buy petite length trousers! Long body short legs here 🤣

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 04/07/2026 17:29

Woolovere and LandsEnd do petite ranges so I assume their normal range must be longer.

Rantypanties · 04/07/2026 17:29

Yeeesss! I’ve worn my M&S longline T-shirts out. Everything is as wide as it’s short and look horrible!

Teyrn880 · 04/07/2026 17:31

Hard agree. I’m not tall 5ft 6 but am long bodied meaning most tops are short and sit at my thickest part exactly where I don’t want them. Also might be a controversial take, but I do think the boxy short trend which is everywhere now is v hard to pull off well. I think you have to be really slim and tall and smallish busted for it to look chic.

squashyhat · 04/07/2026 17:31

No. 5'3" here and I hate the stretched over the bum look.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 04/07/2026 17:31

5’ 5” and would love longer tops and jumpers. I have a 5’ 11” friend, and when she sees a longer one she buys multiples because she knows it might be a while before she sees any more.

330ml · 04/07/2026 17:32

I prefer them shorter.

Alouest · 04/07/2026 17:42

I'm 5'6" and most T shirts are too long for me. I prefer them to end right at hip level. Anything longer than that just doesn't suit me.

This is me, the only ones I've found that are cut for a woman but long enough I found by accident because my 5ft mother bought one and told me it was long enough to be a dress (she exaggerates) , I am a little taller than you and I can reach up in these without exposing my stomach. They also come in multipacks

BashfulClam · 04/07/2026 17:50

Yep I’m 5’9” and actually seek out longer tops. M&S tops are ridiculous and seem to made for tiny women.

holepunch94 · 04/07/2026 17:55

The ones TheCurious0range linked to are definitely longline, they also come in a v neck version (I may have bought too many in my enthusiasm....)

Mumof1andacat · 04/07/2026 17:58

As a 5 ft person, please don't make them longer.

They are usually a good few inches too long for me and I am not tiny!
