AIBU to wish women’s T-shirts and tops were made a bit longer?

I do wish women’s t-shirts were 3-4cm longer in length. I’m 5ft 8 and some t-shirts are too short in the length. It just needs a few cm longer and looks better. It would not drown the shorter ladies.

I do buy men’s t-shirts but I want some tops with feminine designs etc

I really struggle with this, so I vote YANBU!

Just not enough longline t-shirts around for a choice of styles/colours and the very few there are sell out really quickly.

Only 5' 6" here, but another bugbear is pyjama tops. They're so short nowadays, even the shirt-style pyjamas with front buttons. Supermarket ones like Sainsbury's are the worst.

I have some of the Orla Kiely print pyjamas with a good inch gap between the hem of the top and the waistband. . I guess they're skimping on fabric, but I've seriously considered buying wide ribbon and sewing to the bottom hem, as an extension!

Also, swimsuits! 😮

smallglassbottle · 04/07/2026 23:11

I'm short, but I have a big bust and tops end up short on me because of this. I often have to wear a skirt to make them look okay.

basoon · 04/07/2026 23:11

Totally agree. I'm also 5.8 and find most tops too short

FlashHeartFly · 04/07/2026 23:15

Omg yes please! I am 5’9” and all my height is in my back. I’m so fed up of seeing a lovely top that would finish around the ribs on me. No one needs to have the trauma of me in a crop top inflicted on the world 😂

montysmaw · 04/07/2026 23:21

Its the style just now. I get away with it at 5ft 5 and short backed. Sit nicely just below waist band!

Darragon · 04/07/2026 17:16

Sorry I disagree. All the vest tops I bought ended up being “longline” about 3 years ago and they’re horrible, they just bunch up around my stomach when I sit, and the bottom of them looks weird and bulky over my trousers/jeans or tucked in. Almost as bad as those godawful tops that show my midriff. There is definitely a middle ground here! 5’6” for reference.
I do think retailers should make the length clearer though on online listings.

Edited

I challenged a well known online retailer about this. I just asked if they could tell me how long a certain top was. They couldn't but told me the height of the model in the photo and what size she was. Totally bonkers. If they're selling the product why can't they just measure it at some point in the process. People have various body types - e.g. short body, long legs - so simply knowing their height, doesn't help. I pointed that out too. Radio silence.

countdowntonap · 04/07/2026 23:23

Shorted fit is more flattering on me. At 5’5 I like them to fall just above my hip bones

ToffeeCrabApple · 04/07/2026 23:28

I am constantly needing longer teeshirts!!

Alouest · 04/07/2026 23:57

The takeaway from this is that if retailers made tops in a range of lengths (short, medium, long) and actually put the real lengths on their websites, they'd probably have a lot more happy customers.

Pjs - eleanor bowmer via next and British boxers bamboo pjs have both been great for me and I’m 5ft 10

MaryFromGlasgow · 05/07/2026 00:35

5ft8 and hard agree. Nothing is long enough! Add in massive norks …

I buy high waisted jeans and then tuck my top in to make it work.

I'm short with a short torso and I've still had to switch to things like mens jumpers. I'm not a fan of belly button length tops.

I’m short too and tops are too cropped. you can’t tell from the pics on line either.

I’m in the US, and lots of our shops have tees in Petite, Regular and Long. I remember there are GAPs, does the UK have Old Navy?

Nope, and GAP has exactly one tall t shirt

That’s annoying, and a bit weird too, when there’s obviously a need.

FFSItsTooHot · 05/07/2026 00:52

YANBU. I am not particularly tall, only 5 ft 5 in but I have a long back and short legs,so I frequently find that tops and T-shirts are too short. And while we're about it,am I the only one who gets sick of short sleeves being too damn short?! I like a sleeve to sit halfway between my shoulder and elbow,as I hate my upper arms (especially since losing a lot of weight I've been left with saggy skin). So many tops and T-shirts have tiny skimpy little sleeves. It's as if they make the garment, then discover they have a scrap of material left over and think now, what can I do with this?

SquirrelGG · 05/07/2026 01:17

I prefer them shorter - around hip length - and it annoys me that so many are actually long. I'm 5ft 7 and mostly buy Levis tees now as they are just right.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/07/2026 01:40

I agree. I’m 5’3 and slim. They’re either too short or literal crop tops.

OohOohOohWahAhh · 05/07/2026 02:02

5ft nothing and love being drowned in XXL band T-shirts. Pants are way worse as I have to alter them myself and I’m not that on par with sewing. Plus super skinny DD who won the genetic lottery needing her school pants taken up but able to be let out and her shirts nipped in. I wear platforms and get the most of out my clothes 😂

HangryBrickShark · 05/07/2026 02:10

5ft 9 here and yes t-shirts are definitely shorter. I also buy men's t- shirts, it seems to me that mens t-shirts have always been better anyway. For trouser length I tend to use M&S.

OwlBeThere · 05/07/2026 02:11

millymollymoomoo · 04/07/2026 17:20

The answer is short /regular/long like they for trousers! I’m with you op - need a few more cm!

I agree with this. It is stupid to make all tops the same length for people who can be a foot different in height when you think about it.

Yogafiend · 05/07/2026 02:14

No please no. I have already enough problems with clothes fitting! 😁
