AIBU to wish women’s T-shirts and tops were made a bit longer?

I do wish women’s t-shirts were 3-4cm longer in length. I’m 5ft 8 and some t-shirts are too short in the length. It just needs a few cm longer and looks better. It would not drown the shorter ladies.

I do buy men’s t-shirts but I want some tops with feminine designs etc

There is the odd thing in my wardrobe which does look better with a shorter top tbf. I have a high waisted a-line skirt and that definitely looks better with a shorter top. I would just really like the option to have some longer ones too

Yellowpapersun · 04/07/2026 19:25

Long Tall Sally and Lands End are where I get my tops and t-shirts from. Lands End have a regular and short range and I find the regular just right (I'm 5'7½"). Matalan recently had some nice quality v neck t-shirts in different colours that are long enough.

ChicGreyZebra · 04/07/2026 19:25

I own about 15 longline vests that I wear under t-shirts and jumpers every single day. I have a stupidly long body and nothing ever fits properly!

Cobrakainerd · 04/07/2026 19:26

I hate both too short and clingy clothes, and those daft little bits of cloth they claim are sleeves! I want a womans t shirt that doesn't just reach my midriff and doesnt cover the tops of my arms!
Why can't we have shaped shirts but not skin tight showing menopausal weight with actual short sleeves and that reach a waistband?
Im not even that tall.
I want jumpers that reach my wrists and between waist and hips in winter.
I end up in small or medium mens for both.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 04/07/2026 19:35

American Tall delver in the UK and have 2 lengths and nice quality
im ‘only’ 5’8” but long bodied and they’ve stopped me flashing the neighbours when pegging out the washing

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/07/2026 19:02

Woolover tops are really short on me.
5’8” and long in the body.

Have you tried LandsEnd as I have seen lots of reviews saying that they are really long.

StarCourt · 04/07/2026 19:53

Yep same I’m 5ft 9 and massive breasts which really doesn't help

MiddleAgedDread · 04/07/2026 20:18

yANBU and this “boxy look” can go to hell!
it’s becoming so hard to buy a top that’s long enough to
cover my middriff, and no one needs to see that!

AlphaApple · 04/07/2026 20:19

5’ 2” and every top drowns me, ending up down at my hips. I need them to be shorter!

OtterLovesItsRock · 04/07/2026 20:19

I like tops that sit on my natural waist and am glad when they are shorter. I have resigned myself to the 'medieval tunic' look far too often.

Dorothyperky · 04/07/2026 20:20

Landsend do tall fitting in some styles. I'm 5'10". Big chests also taken up a lot of fabric.

Dorothyperky · 04/07/2026 20:22

Kettlewell colours are a good length too.

Branleuse · 04/07/2026 20:24

Can't you just buy tops that are the length you like? Not everyone wants longline tops but it's perfectly easy to find them.

Londonrach1 · 04/07/2026 20:25

Yanbu. It's a huge issue. Fed up of it and everyone I know is too.

kolpa · 04/07/2026 20:31

I have a similar issue with shorts. Got varicose veins and want them just above the knee. Don’t like them short that ride up when sitting down or like cycling shorts

I'm 5ft6 but have H cup boobs, so often have this issue. I recently tried these T-shirts. The pics look like blouses but they are advertised as T-shirts with the same material and feel when on. Strangely, they were both so long, they came to almost half way down my thigh! I've never tried Yours brand so no idea if this is the norm, but might be worth looking at the brand if they have your size.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 04/07/2026 20:42

God yes OP, with you there! My frame is impossible to fit! I'm 5'6 so about average, but have broad shoulders, small boobs and a bit of a tummy. I have yet to find a T-shirt that doesn't look dreadful on me! If they're long enough they're baggy, and indecent at the neck when I bend over, but if I size down so they're contoured to my shape they're so short I find myself pulling at the hem throughout the day, feeling like Winnie-the-Pooh. Fitted but hip-length rather than waist-length would be great.

BoilingHotand50something · 04/07/2026 20:49

Matalan vest tops are a very good length and I find most supermarkets do longline vests. H&M are good at including measurements and model heights and sizes. I buy a lot of tall tops on Vinted as well. Dorothy Perkins talk are spot on my long torso and ridiculously long arms!

kolpa · 04/07/2026 20:51

I don't do vest tops as burnt my shoulders as a teen and refuse to wear them

nogainjustpain · 04/07/2026 20:54

I’m 6ft and everything is too short unless I buy Long Tall Sally but they are often just so drab and plain or else look too floral and fusty.

Conversely why are women’s gym shorts so bloody short? I don’t want my entire thighs on show! Some comfy knee length ones that aren’t skin tight/capri style that cut off my circulation at the knees would be great please sportswear designers.

@SusanChurchouse thanks for the Spark recc, I was eyeing up their tees recently but couldn’t work out if they’d be hovering too high on my waist or not. I might give them a go!

Tryagain26 · 04/07/2026 20:55

I want the opposite .I find them all much too long!

Planesmistakenforstars · 04/07/2026 21:06

Also proper sleeves. I hate that women's T shirts usually have cropped sleeves, whereas men's have proper sleeves halfway to the elbows. And a normal T shirt neck, rather than something scooped. And not made of flimsy floaty material. I just buy men's T shirts now.

Obeseandashamed · 04/07/2026 21:07

5ft 3ins and have the same issue. They barely cover my waistband so I end up with a bare back when sitting, reaching up etc. I hate it.

GetTheACOn · 04/07/2026 21:09

Five foot 2 and tops are too long for me! So are cardigans. Hate it.

thunderclouds76 · 04/07/2026 21:20

I'm 5ft 5 and just bought a pack of 5 t-shirts from NEXT, they are long on me, they could do with being a coupe of cm's shorter
