AIBU to ignore a colleague until work on Monday?

On a Friday I call into a supermarket local to my work and pick up lunch (for myself and others).
Today there was a queue to use the coffee machine and I ended up being 3 minutes late for work.
When I got into work I apologised for being late and my line manager said to not let it happen again and to make up the time in my lunch.
I did my 3 minutes of work and then went to take my lunch in another room.
At my finishing time I got up and left and a member of the team mentioned something about swanning in late and leaving early to which I replied I'd made my time up as I'd been told to by our manager and I didn't realise that they were now my supervisor.
He followed me to my car to try and start an argument but I kept walking got in my car and left.
He's known in the workplace to be hotheaded and very argumentative and management have had to step in/give warnings before now.
He's tried to call me twice on my personal number but not left any messages.
AIBU to ignore until Monday

You could ignore him indefinitely if you like? It is your prerogative.

SinuousTendrils · 03/07/2026 21:47

Yes. I can't believe people have tk deal with this sort of shit.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 03/07/2026 22:29

Did he already have your number or is that something to query with HR?

Also, 3 minutes? And you had to make up the time? Fuck that shit.

BilgeVole · 03/07/2026 22:32

Ignore full stop, apart from when it’s professionally necessary to speak with him. Sounds a total idiot.

As for the three minutes and making it up, I mean, seriously??!

clickyteeclick · 03/07/2026 22:32

What job makes you make up 3 minutes?! (I’m guessing retail??).
Try and find a new one sharpish, this is no way to live, always on egghshells. As to that prick getting involved, block him and tell HR that he is never to contact you again .

Pineapplewhip · 03/07/2026 22:34

I'd leave the workplace all together if they're this uptight about 3 fucking minutes.

This is your answer. Flag his behaviour up the chain and let management know that he's an ongoing problem

Pineapplewhip · 03/07/2026 22:34

I'd leave the workplace all together if they're this uptight about 3 fucking minutes.

I’ve never been tested by three minutes, but I did leave a job over a five minute docking of wages.

Greenspaceskeepmecalm · 03/07/2026 22:47

Having to make up 3 minutes especially when you were getting food for yourself and others is ridiculous.

Ignore your colleague. I would also speak to my manager/HR about their behaviour.

You should not be treated like this in any situation.

AImportantMermaid · 03/07/2026 23:24

Don’t reply but keep a record of calls/texts/messages over the weekend and if needed go to your manager and HR on Monday. He should not be intimidating you like that. By Monday it could be seen harassment if he contrived the weekend.

WeatherOrNothing · 04/07/2026 00:07

I’m shocked that 3 minutes was such a big deal. Time to look for a new job op. Report to hr as well, sounds like he’s harassing you

Tamtim · 04/07/2026 01:26

That’s outrageous behaviour. You need to have him following you to your car recorded. Speak to HR.

MermaidMummy06 · 04/07/2026 02:08

3 minutes?? I work for accountants who monitor & micro manage every minute & even they wouldn't dare to comment if anyone was 3 minutes late occasionally!!

Tell HR your colleague is harassing you. But don't just put up with it. He'll be waiting to harass you on Monday. It always shocks me how people put up with harrassment.

FWC2026 · 04/07/2026 02:20

'Making up 3 minutes' fuck that! How petty.
Is your manager one of the ones you bring in food for? If so, that would be the last time.

any chance Major Fuckwit was calling to apologise??

HR would hearing about this first thing Monday morning.

try not to let it spoil your weekend.🌷

Careerchanging · 04/07/2026 03:26

It was said in jest by line manager but I know how it looks to some people so I did my 3 minutes.
There is 0% chance he was calling to apologise if he feels he didn't get the last word
We're all in a group chat so he already had my number

Ignore him. If it’s urgent, he’ll leave a message.

Firefly100 · 04/07/2026 07:10

He may well try to pick up where you left off on Monday. Consider your preferred responses to what he is likely to say in advance so you are ready for it.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 04/07/2026 07:24

My manager tries this sort of nonsense
He will literally go to the shop until dead on the ' o'clock ' when I'm due to go
He swans in like the world owes him minutes over his time . Quite often 10+ minutes or more
Because he's a cunt
Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about cunt behaviour
Don't give anything of your time. Not one minute, even if that means leaving your station " unmanned "
I bet he's single

Evaka · 04/07/2026 07:36

Good god, your colleague is a psycho.

ElizaSchuyler · 04/07/2026 07:39

Block his number. Also I work in HR. I’d want this behaviour reported.

Natsku · 04/07/2026 07:41

3 measly minutes??! Ignore him and if he continues to hassle you report him.
But jeez, 3 minutes, at my workplace people regularly pop to the shop during work time to get cigarettes, or a Friday treat to share at coffee break. I would not work somewhere where I felt my time was being watched so much.

FlopsyMopsyCotton · 04/07/2026 07:58

3 minutes?? That’s ridiculous. Is it something that happens a lot? Does he think you are getting special treatment? For 3 minutes I honestly wouldn’t have even apologised for being late….!!

Don’t answer, keep a record, HR on Monday that’s not a normal reaction and he needs to be told. You cannot follow someone to their car having a go and then blow up their phone.

NoMoreDribbling · 04/07/2026 07:59

Id get the prick done for harassment and I wouldn't be working anywhere that made me make up 3 minutes

CaesarAugusta · 04/07/2026 08:21

If you get any more calls at home, report him to HR for stalking.

When you get lunch for others at the supermarket, does it include this colleague? If so, I'd take him off the list.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 04/07/2026 08:27

Block him
