AIBU to ignore a colleague until work on Monday?

On a Friday I call into a supermarket local to my work and pick up lunch (for myself and others).
Today there was a queue to use the coffee machine and I ended up being 3 minutes late for work.
When I got into work I apologised for being late and my line manager said to not let it happen again and to make up the time in my lunch.
I did my 3 minutes of work and then went to take my lunch in another room.
At my finishing time I got up and left and a member of the team mentioned something about swanning in late and leaving early to which I replied I'd made my time up as I'd been told to by our manager and I didn't realise that they were now my supervisor.
He followed me to my car to try and start an argument but I kept walking got in my car and left.
He's known in the workplace to be hotheaded and very argumentative and management have had to step in/give warnings before now.
He's tried to call me twice on my personal number but not left any messages.
AIBU to ignore until Monday

Ignore him, but also report him the HR on Monday for calling you and following you to your car. That is not normal behaviour.

OverTiredPanda · 04/07/2026 15:54

3 minutes?! Wow. That job would not be for me. Also this guy gives me bad vibes! Id be speaking to someone about him for aure. You shouldn't have to deal with him being ao confrontational!!

NoisyMonster678 · 04/07/2026 16:04

That is stalking and harassment, if you take this up with HR, the nutter should be in trouble because of the way he targetted you.

From now on get your own lunch, your colleagues can get theirs and that should prevent the ridiculous squabbling by management over 3 minutes, they need to get a life as you were actually saving them money multiplied by the number of people you purchased lunch for.........!

shuggles · 04/07/2026 16:05

@Careerchanging He's tried to call me twice on my personal number but not left any messages.

I would have answered it and recorded the call.

Gooseling · 04/07/2026 16:11

I’d be handing my notice in. Your manager and hot head colleague sound like absolute freaks.

RB68 · 04/07/2026 16:44

I would be reporting to management - if he is not your supervisor or manager this is harrassment and from an angry male which is not acceptable behaviour

Susied25 · 04/07/2026 16:50

3 minutes? Are they serious. Sounds like a toxic place.

Nextweektoo · 04/07/2026 17:05

I would report a colleague for following me to my car! How intimidating.

paleyellowbrick · 04/07/2026 17:26

@Susied25
The op said her manager was joking about the 3 minutes.

Grammarnut · 04/07/2026 17:43

BilgeVole · 03/07/2026 22:32

Ignore full stop, apart from when it’s professionally necessary to speak with him. Sounds a total idiot.

As for the three minutes and making it up, I mean, seriously??!

Edited

Her argumentative colleague is not the only weirdo in the office. 3 minutes!

Italiangreyhound · 04/07/2026 17:58

I hope he was calling to apologize. Let him stew.

Three minutes late, I am regularly late and I regularly work late and take calls on my day off.

Poppasocks · 04/07/2026 19:49

Forget HR i'd be going to the police! Absolute nut job.

Thanks everyone
I've booked a meeting with HR for Monday and requested the CCTV
There is a lot of "banter" in my workplace but he always has to go too far or go a bit too mean but it's the first time he's ever been called out in front of the younger lads that he thinks look up to him
Also I'm definitely going to be calling him a toaster from now on!

Well done OP.
Good for you (and for the others). Toaster is also going to be added to my vocabulary now 😁

Also, if you are collecting lunches etc for the team, I would consider that 'work' and should be done in work's time not your own. Can you raise that with your manager to clear the air for next Friday? Eg if you stop off to pick the things up that counts as starting work, or you'll stop doing it.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 05/07/2026 00:48

All this drama over 3 minutes is crazy, what kind of place do you work in & can you look for another job?

SezFrankly · 05/07/2026 02:18

What he did was harass you.
Report it, keep a log and report any other communication that is not directly about work tasks.

BaileyHorse · 05/07/2026 09:01

Ignore and report on Monday that he followed you to your car to try and start on you. Only when people take action against others like this will anything be done about it

Auroraloves · 05/07/2026 09:06

How dare he intimidate you like that. Fucking male ego.

Hope you get him done

FWC2026 · 05/07/2026 09:58

Cancel the cheque!

let us know how you get on tomorrow!?

Striveforcompetence · 06/07/2026 13:36

I used to hate this kind of thing when I worked in an office. I hope he didn’t behave like a dickhead when you got to work today and HR have stepped in to stop his stupid behaviour.

MyOtherProfile · 06/07/2026 15:26

How did it go today?

Gettingbysomehow · 06/07/2026 16:27

How can you stand these people? 3 minutes late!!! They wouldnt even notice 3 minutes here in the NHS. Good on you for ignoring that idiot.

mistlethrush · 06/07/2026 17:27

Very pleased you're seeing HR - I hope that they are suitably supportive - his actions were intimidating and clearly meant to be so.

UseItOrLoseIt1984 · 06/07/2026 17:49

I would honestly have told him to fuck off and bollocks to the consequences

Careerchanging · Yesterday 08:14

So he was suspended yesterday morning before I got to work
I received a text message from him calling me a fucking bitch while I was on my way to work

You will pass those messages to HR first thing, yes?
