AIBU to ignore a colleague until work on Monday?

On a Friday I call into a supermarket local to my work and pick up lunch (for myself and others).
Today there was a queue to use the coffee machine and I ended up being 3 minutes late for work.
When I got into work I apologised for being late and my line manager said to not let it happen again and to make up the time in my lunch.
I did my 3 minutes of work and then went to take my lunch in another room.
At my finishing time I got up and left and a member of the team mentioned something about swanning in late and leaving early to which I replied I'd made my time up as I'd been told to by our manager and I didn't realise that they were now my supervisor.
He followed me to my car to try and start an argument but I kept walking got in my car and left.
He's known in the workplace to be hotheaded and very argumentative and management have had to step in/give warnings before now.
He's tried to call me twice on my personal number but not left any messages.
AIBU to ignore until Monday

So he was suspended yesterday morning before I got to work
I received a text message from him calling me a fucking bitch while I was on my way to work

Wow! Well it clearly wasn't your fault he got suspended since you hadn't even had chance to say your bit!

I showed the message and call log when I met with HR

I’m glad to hear his actions had consequences - and even happier that, while you had proof to share, that was not the reason he was suspended as you had arranged the meeting but not yet shared the problem with them. So you can, in all good conscience, tell him that he was not suspended because of whatever you might have done, as you hadn’t yet done anything. So it’s likely either someone else saw him and complained or he complained about you and dropped himself in it.

They can't have been surprised then, and something else must have been going on for him to already be suspended. It sounds like he's got quite a habit!

I'd bet someone else witnessed his behaviour and has had enough of it and put in a complaint. Hopefully he doesn't come back people like that don't change , I hope op logs any other interactions that occur during his suspension like anymore texts or missed calls. It's harassment plain and simple.

Sounds like others have complained about him too. He wouldn’t be suspended unless they had heard your complaint so I think others have complained too.

He is clearly unhinged. But he has done you, your colleagues and the company a favour, as there’s no way he can deny he’s said this or claim it’s your word against his. He can be dealt with accordingly.

Well done for reporting him.

DontStopMe · Yesterday 09:06

You said he'd been warned before. They obviously know what he's like and were ready to take action.

FWC2026 · Yesterday 10:53

Hopefully 'suspended' is just a formality before dismissed for gross misconduct!!

id actually report him to the police if you get any more contact, of any kind, from him.

Hope everything at work is ok now 🤗

he sure knows how to help himself, jeez

Unexpectedlysinglemum · Yesterday 11:02

It’s harrassment and you could file a complaint with hr. You can’t text him from personal phone saying please never contact you again on this personal number and if he does straight to the police who will give him a stern warning

StormGazing · Yesterday 11:06

Blimey! He’s unhinged!!!

Francestein · Yesterday 11:20

This bloke has zero impulse control, it would seem. I think you need to be very careful about him seeking revenge. He IS likely to be violent. You need to take different routes home for a while and make sure he’s not following you. You need cameras up at home and one in your car. and you need to be very clear with HR that you have very serious safety concerns.

Jeez. Is he unwell? Will you show this text to HR? That’s dismissal territory surely?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · Yesterday 15:53

Brilliant update! Him being suspended I mean - not the additional text message. I really hope that is the final nail in the coffin for him.

dapsnotplimsolls · Yesterday 18:07

Wow. Hope he gets the boot.

Wtafdidido · Yesterday 18:20

You ignore him til Monday then go straight to HR about his threatening behaviour following you to your car and tell them he has been harassing you by phone on your private number in your personal time when he has no business to. How did he get your number would also be my question. Dont allow his behaviour to go unchecked.

You know you're meant to read all the posts, not just the OP 😂

@Careerchanging I agree with pp about contacting the police if he carries on. He's unhinged.

Gonk123 · Yesterday 21:06

Oh wow bet you are glad you didn’t block. Win win!

I am in two minds as to whether you should wait and go to the police anyway.

ElizaSchuyler · Today 10:35

He's known in the workplace to be hotheaded and very argumentative and management have had to step in/give warnings before now.

it sounds like he was already in a disciplinary process, potentially a final warning. Hopefully if the process is followed correctly he will cease to become your problem.
