To really hate seeing bare chested men in the street?

It doesn't matter if they're in good shape or not, in fact they very well formed ones almost make it worse. It's not about whether it's nice to look at or not, but it feels uncomfortable, whether subconcious or not, it seems designed to demonstrate male dominance and is all a bit chest beating, like gorillas in the zoo!

I used to dislike it, because it’s vulgar. But honestly, now that I see women dressed in the Muslim way, with long clothes on and their heads tightly wrapped in the heat, I feel very very very in favour of Total Clothing Rights. It’s a terrible thing to be so oppressed that you have to hide yourself.

Let’s stay well away from body shaming.

JazzyJelly · 29/06/2026 11:43

It makes me think of the dad from Friday Night Dinner.

Put your bosoms away!

henlake7 · 29/06/2026 11:44

I dont find it intimidating or anything and TBH Im not too bothered if I see bare chests walking around the streets in general, or at a park, beach, etc.
But they can at least put a shirt on if they are in a High st or shop. Nobody needs to see their nipples when they are just trying to get the weekly shop!

chirrupybird · 29/06/2026 11:47

If you are in a queue having a half naked man looming over you is unpleasant, the thought of accidentally brushing against the yucky flesh. I don't find them scary they are often middle aged or more and paunchy and just look sweaty and vile. At least if they are young and fit it's a bit of eye candy, but they tend to be the rarity.

Fgs the situation is entirely different for men/women. It's the whole men are afraid women will laugh at them, women are afraid men will killl them thing

Have you ever been scared a man will kill you?

I have. Many times.

Have you ever been scared a man will kill you?

Hmmm good question

I've been in a few situations where I've been scared a man might kill me. But seeing a bare-chested man in the street is certainly not one of them.

It used to be quite normal, and I hope it still is.

Inmyuggs · 29/06/2026 11:49

Gosh its a gorgeous thing is the male torso if trim & toned.
Very natural is the human body.
So very english is this lack of appreication

Have you ever been scared a man will kill you?

Umm. Yes? Everytime you get a cab or a buddy to avoid walking home alone?

I fucking hate it. Regardless of their physicality, it looks disgusting and extremely disrespectful 😤 MEN..please put some clothes on for the love of God

SerendipityJane · 29/06/2026 11:37

I wonder what the logical conclusion of the OP mandating a dress code for one sex might be ?

🤣

BlindSpotForCats · 29/06/2026 11:51

This is an interesting thread! I live in a tourist area so have seen it alot this summer. I've never really noticed it beyond a vague begrudging admiration that some men feel no shame to whip out their less than aesthetic bodies yet I as a woman worry most of the day about how I am looking and is my stomach sticking out.

Ive not thought of it beofre as a male dominace thing. I can see that argument though.

fatphalange · 29/06/2026 11:26

I agree but I discovered another reason to dislike these knuckle-dragging exhibitionists plodding around in public last week. One of them flicked sweat on to me as I was walking past 🤮 …which is probably why they aren’t supposed to be allowed in shops.

Grim!! 😭😭😭

Me too.

littleburn · 29/06/2026 11:52

I don’t like it. For consistency I also don’t like the teenage girls walking down the street with their ass cheeks hanging out. Beach, pool or your own back garden go shirtless/wear the micro shorts. It’s not appropriate walking down the street. I will totally clutch my pearls and say it’s about standards and consideration of others. I don’t like being exposed to parts of peoples bodies that you’d typically only see if you were pretty intimate with them when I’m walking down the high street. I find it rude and obnoxious.

ShaggedMen · 29/06/2026 11:52

The overall UK homicide rate remains low, at approximately 8.6 to 9.5 homicides per million population (0.86 to 0.95 per 100,000).

These figures are among the lowest recorded in decades and compare very favorably internationally.

HumberSquid · 29/06/2026 11:36

Lol so women can wear what they like and cover as much or as little of their bodies as they wish but men's clothing needs to be regulated.

How about women get their own house in order about what's acceptable and not?

How many topless women have you seen walking down the high street?

BlindSpotForCats · 29/06/2026 11:52

And yes, agree. I have been in many situations where I have been scared a man would kill me, incouding the time I got mugged without injury and sexually assaulted with injury. I thought that was a normal enough feeling for women at various points in their life tbh.

wherearethesnacks · 29/06/2026 11:53

It's revolting. They should be asked to leave any shop or building they try to enter while topless.

TurquoiseDress · 29/06/2026 11:53

YANBU!

Put a T shirt/vest back on please!

Not sure it's particularly normal for men to strip off elsewhere (outside the tropics anyway)

I don’t appreciate the hatred toward Englishness, thanks.

Newforspring · 29/06/2026 11:55

Oh god I just feel like having an ‘everyone cover most of your torso and your arse Inc the cheeks thanks’ policy would be reasonable tbh. Men women everyone.

Icanseeasquirrel · 29/06/2026 11:56

It’s grim indoors in public spaces. The gym requires tops. No need for sweaty blokes in the shops to be wandering about with tops off.
