Sandals and crusty feet at work

AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

The NHS is under pressure because people refuse to take care of themselves. Foot health is absolutely crucial for posture, joints etc beyond being essential for mobility which itself is a huge driver of health outcomes.

Foot health is easily achieved by wearing correctly fitting shoes with a wide toebox and not too much 'support', not wearing high heels, lots of running (preferably on trail rather than road), cutting your toenails when needed, and going barefoot whenever you can.

I brush my teeth twice a day like a normal person. Flossing is only if you have something stuck between your teeth surely? How does it prevent bad breath?

No it’s for cleaning down into the gum line, in between teeth and also for heart disease

Where did I say I did it in front of others?

Most nailbiters do, they do it without even realising. I don't want to be judgy but it is pretty nauseating.

So we have to go running now to keep feet healthy?

Yes, I do the same.

However, I'm more concerned with my appearance than with sharing a dislike for those who can't access the same provisions I can.

I don't care about what others are doing.

Dry feet? I don't care.
Cracked heels? I really don't care.
Hairy toes? None of my business.
Imperfect teeth? Good for you!

My life isn't dull enough to be looking at feet 🤣

Edited

I doubt that's true given the way you've been behaving on this thread.

So what do you suggest to avoid ‘nauseating’ people? Should I wear gloves all the time so people don’t have to risk seeing it?

I googled and got:

"Dental flossing reduces oral infections and gum disease, which are linked to inflammation," Sen said. Because inflammation can contribute to the risk for stroke, "it would make sense that if people flossed regularly, it might also reduce the risk of stroke and AFib."

also:

"The findings are considered preliminary until the full results are published in a peer-reviewed journal."

So basically, unsubstantiated bollocks. As usual, Correlation != Causation.

What is shallow on this thread is people who don't know how to look after themselves because they end up bankrupting the NHS.

Are dry feet bankrupting the NHS?

Your imagination is running wild with you.

Not all the list are compulsory of course, but regular running, especially off road, does wonders for foot strength, ankle stability, and bon density.

Maybe just try to stop? IDK, I'm not dictating to you and I would never say it to anyone, but you seem very defensive, which makes me wonder if you are more unkempt than you admit.

Don't be obtuse, dear.

So we have to go running now to keep feet healthy?

No you don’t have to. But it helps.

what the poster is saying is that spending money on appearances is less healthy than other things you could be doing for healthy feet but bi one talks about real foot health - only the appearance of it

certain appearances make other people very judgemental

some of the judgements that people are keen to make are often the opposite of what is really needed for healthy feet such as “smart” shoes tend not to have wide toe boxes but are dismissed as various agist things,

and a bit of air around the toes would more likely prevent problems caused by stale sweat but that is a luxury to be given only to those with good looking feet or the time and money to spend on cosmetic treatments

But you can’t see the trying so you will still judge

I used to bite my nails, but I made myself stop. It just is a yucky habit.

Maybe she suffers from anxiety and can't stop?

Once again, avert your gaze.

BlueFahrenheit · 30/06/2026 12:33

I'm most amused by this thread.

We have a man who purposefully observes other males' feet and feels jealous because their feet are nicer than his. Apparently, dry feet and cracked heels are bankrupting the NHS. Who would have known? Lastly, we have people who have a fixed gaze on the ground, observing hairy toes!

The foot fetishists have united in this thread 🤣🤣🤣

Would you pick your nose in public, and expect others to 'avert their gaze'?

Do you observe individuals picking their nose? I certainly hope you do not.

I already said I don’t bite my nails in public but you decided that I clearly do.

Biting my nails helps alleviate my urge to self harm. Yes I could probably stop but I figure it’s less risky than cutting myself when I get dysregulated. By all means judge me for it but you would judge me more if you saw my old scars.

And who over the age of. 5 says ‘yucky’?

Who over the age of five is gross in public?

flossing really isn’t bollocks though. Ask any dentist, hygienist etc. you’re missing cleaning under the gum line and in between teeth so you’re more likely to get gum disease
i have to floss daily or my gums start bleeding
