AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

Hairy toes are the absolute pits. On either sex. 🤢

Should hands also be covered ? They are body parts after all

I don't stare at feet long enough to see whether they're hairy. My gaze is eye level.

I dislike most perfumes and some laundry detergents are so vile that I cross the street rather than walk behind them. And plastic faces make me twitch

You don’t ‘owe’ anyone else a thing when it comes to your own appearance.

If I wore open toed shoes then you would see I have next to no toenails and the soles of my feet are probably not great. Do I owe it to others to take care of how my feet look if they don’t bother me?

I don't stare at feet either, the 'don't look then' retorts on this thread are tiresome. It's not about staring or even consciously looking, people have eyes and they see things, whether they want to not.

Well we shall have to agree to differ @Anarchy99 as I do think we owe our colleagues the courtesy of being clean and tidy in the workplace. I think that is just good manners and respectful of other people.

I also think we owe ourselves the courtesy of looking after the only body that we have - but that is a whole other subject in itself.

But how? They are not ever in your eyeline unless you are deliberately looking. It really is harder to notice anyone's feet than it is to not look at all.

No. Not unless I'm deliberately looking down which is pretty much only on streets where I know there's a high chance of dog poo to be wary of.

Some of us actually have good posture and walk with our heads held high.

Lowering my eye level to the ground to observe the appearance of feet is not something I do.

Hugely amused by those whose glance never deigns to descends below eye height! I'm relieved to say that I can observe floor to ceiling whilst at work and moving around the world. Fortunately that means that I can observe to get up for someone wearing a foot boot (as in medical) on the tube. I could see when my children's shoe laces were untied or the hem of my colleague's skirt had come undone and I could offer her a needle and thread to put a few stitches in before she went into a meeting.

What's basic grooming? I would say keeping clean is and anything else is extra and entirely optional.

Flossing teeth is absolutely essential. The ignorance on this thread is catastrophic.

Removing dead skin is basic fundamental hygiene. Nail varnish is cosmetic though, like lots of cosmetics, can also be useful for camouflaging bits of you that aren't especially nice to look at.

Dead skin comes off when you wash and towel dry . basic hygiene nothing fancy.

Disagreement about the difference between cleanliness and aesthetics is not ignorance.

Seeing as you regularly pay 18 euros for a special soap that you use only on your feet, Ceramiq, I'd venture to say you are not a reliable authority on what constitutes essential hygiene

Have you never tripped over an unexpectedly deep step or unexpectedly raised part of the pavement? Are all surfaces totally flat where you live? I live on a tree lined street, old, rooty trees and the pavements are very uneven.
