I really enjoyed the thread started by @openthefrontdoorthe other week which was a different take on those boring threads where someone posted a photo.

So I thought I’d start one myself. Not sure I’ll be quite as eloquent but I’ll give it my best shot to drop some random facts

  1. Growing up, my dad was clean shaven but for a most fantastic bushy moustache which he took great pride in.

  2. Our 1 tv in the house through most of my early years was rented from Radio Rentals and had a wire on the tv remote connecting it.

  3. My most treasured Christmas present ever was a Tiny Tears doll that could cry and wet herself

  1. My parents still live in the family home I grew up in, which they bought with a mortgage and a small loan from my dads boss for £37,000 in the south east

57 same as me

I was going to say the same age as me, Dad’s moustache sounded similar although he used brillcreme to hold the rest down, we had a radio rentals TV but ours needed 50ps put in to run, we didn’t have a phone so used the local phone box too. But I didn’t know anyone who owned their own home, so I’d say mid 50s based on house ownership.

Did your school calculators have the red backlit numbers, or an LCD display?

Was a Casio watch the coolest tech you'd ever seen?

Were TVs and fairy lights still burning people's houses down, or had Lynne Faulds Wood started warning us about them?

Were picknic blankets still ALL tartan?

Probably unhelpful as I used both calculators. Tartan blankets were (and still are?) everywhere! My dad was very excited to wear a Casio watch that was digital but I also remember them being peak cool!
House fires from consumer electrics were common and I absolutely remember Lynne Faulds Wood and various Watchdog campaigns for safer household electrics
