AIBU to be fed up with the heatwave hysteria?

I'm getting a bit sick of the heat hysteria.

Yes it's going to be very hot for the next few days. So stay hydrated and out of the sun. Be sensible, take precautions. It's not difficult.

Millions of people around the world endure hot temperatures and yes it's uncomfortable for these few days but the crap British weather will be back soon, fear not.

People are acting quite over the top about it imo.

Don’t read the news, stay indoors, don’t read social media etc and then you won’t be so angry!

VanityUnit66 · 23/06/2026 20:26

I’m fed up of people starting threads about the same thing over and over again. Yours is about number 10 whinging about the weather response.

Kalanthe · 23/06/2026 20:29

Wow you can cope with heat better than others, well done! Gold star for you for being so awesome ⭐

Maybe start a couple more threads whinging about people who dare to struggle with heat, there haven’t been enough of them yet

Helpless0190 · 23/06/2026 20:30

I work in a kitchen. Today it hit 46 degrees in there. Countless people work in jobs where they are stuck in dangerously high temperatures. It is not hysteria.

Arlanymor · 23/06/2026 20:34

Forty people have drowned in France since Thursday due to heatwave-related deaths. I don't think Sébastien Lecornu warning people about this is remotely hysterical.

JustinesGraspingAvarice · 23/06/2026 20:40

I quite agree OP. We have lost sight of what a real heatwave is! I'm still wearing a coat and I'm absolutely fine

A coat!?! Really??

BurnoutBee · 23/06/2026 20:48

Guess you’re not a teacher or a nurse, or a construction worker? Or a chef?

well done you ⭐️

BurnoutBee · 23/06/2026 20:49

@JustinesGraspingAvarice

Fuckinghell Justine, you’re in a coat? Bet you’re the kind of person to have two roast potatoes only on Christmas Day.

user293948849167 · 23/06/2026 20:49

I mean it’s “only” an amber warning where I am so yes it’s hot but not that bad.
I really don’t like the heat but also it’s only going to last a couple of days and sensible precautions can be taken

ThisOneLife · 23/06/2026 20:50

Over 120 000 people have died in Europe in the last 2 years as a direct result of heatwaves.

How bizarre that you think that a warning is “hysterical”.

You quite agree, do you? What do you class as a real heatwave then? Because I’m telling you now that 1976’s endless 32 degrees was way more bearable than 39 degrees now, even for just 3 days.

You keep your coat on tomorrow and see what heat stroke feels like.

Mszeebop · 23/06/2026 20:53

I have seen people in jackets. I have been checking the weather and it keeps wavering from 35-38 om Wednesday. I can remember 2022- I think, when we reached 40 😳

MeAndTheDoggo · 23/06/2026 20:55

I don’t cope in the heat, I never have. I get heat exausyion very quickly. My daughter becomes delirious in hot weather. I come from a family who don’t either. I prefer the cold 🤷🏻‍♀️ It takes time to acclimatise to hot weather. I have lived in hot countries where it has taken a good couple of months to do so, but also aircon was a saviour. We seem to have the big jumps in temp this year with no gradual incline. I’m a big wet I know, but the heat and not being able to cool my bedroom is my limit. We all have a limit I guess

Larrythecatforpm · 23/06/2026 20:56

Yes, it’s all getting quite silly. It’s hot every year
ffs.

2 roast potatoes? Are you kidding? I wouldn't want to turn into a fatty

canuckup · 23/06/2026 21:01

And some of the threads on here!

My seventeen year old is hot, do I take him a replacement t-shirt?!?

canuckup · 23/06/2026 21:01

A coat is pushing it a bit, let's be fair

Oh wait, that poster is in the Arctic

Didimum · 23/06/2026 21:02

My Mum is a home carer for those with dementia and in cognitive decline. Today she encountered those she cares for getting dressed in shirts and jumpers, putting on their heating and gas fires and opening their curtains. Every time she corrected they would revert. She’s only with people for 1-2hrs max and then she has to leave them.

Sometimes it a very very frightening problem.

BoredZelda · 23/06/2026 21:03

And yet here you are posting about it.

lovemelongtime · 23/06/2026 21:05

It's absolutely FKN ridiculous. I am amazed the rest of the world manages to function. God help us if they were all like us. Just crack on and stop moaning.

And yes, I did have to commute to work on a train and yes mum home office is like a cauldron, but we moan for 10 months a year about the cold.

sittingonabeach · 23/06/2026 21:06

My DM is in her 90s with heart condition and cognitive issues so forgets to keep hydrated, apologies if I am concerned about the heatwave

Upsetbetty · 23/06/2026 21:06

Yes it’s stupid…
how are you dressing in this heat?
how are you eating in this heat?
how are you working in this heat?
how are you travelling in this heat?
I mean ffs…life goes on!

sittingonabeach · 23/06/2026 21:08

@Upsetbetty for some people it won’t

sittingonabeach · 23/06/2026 21:10

Other countries in Europe are taking precautions so they aren’t all carrying on as normal
