To not support England?!

Feetballislife · 11/06/2026 10:12

Live and work in England. Not English. My team didn’t qualify for the World Cup so I’m supporting Scotland! Lobe a plucky underdog, have some Scots heritage ( and some English to be fair) plus I NEVER support English sports teams. EVER.
Football has inevitably come up in the office and several colleagues are generally pissed off that I’m not supporting England, insist I should be etc etc. Stupidly I mentioned that I never support England … did not gone down well.
If you live here then you should etc etc

YANBU - support who you like!
YABU - you ingrate, you live in the country you should support the national team.

For sure. But she's going to have a looooong pinched arse summer until she gets there!

Hope she hasn't bought an Senegal shirt as we are now playing DR Congo. 😂

So if you moved to Spain or France ( and lived and worked there and paid tax there etc) you’d support their teams over England, or whatever your team is?
That’s nonsense. It’s like saying you’re from Newcastle and support them but you’ve moved to Liverpool so now should switch teams to L’Pool or Everton.

You said “ anyone but England” that’s a big difference. Also I would support my own countries team then the team I lived in if it was me. You putting - anyone but England is the issue

As if the culture of other European countries football fan bases are any different/better? 😂

Yeah I think it's very strange to not have any affection whatsoever for a country you choose to live in.

Scotland fans seemed to have done well! Unfortunately not so much the team.

The Op has been noticiably quiet for the past two games....

You wait..Monday as we are likely to lose.

Feetballislife · 06/07/2026 11:22

Sorry, lads. I thought the thread has sort of run it’s’ course, clearly not!
’So NOW are you supporting England?’
was the first thing someone said time as I came in this morning- and the answer is still no, obvs! Did watch the game first thing this am though and as a neutral it was a good match to watch.

That idiot Henderson though, that’s one way to get injured I suppose. Doh.

Bit of an odd thing to do for a team and country you dislike stay up i mean.

Why would it run it's course when England are still in? Plus surprised you watched all of it.

Neutral today, anyone but England last week. She’ll be a full on fan by the final 👀

I didn’t. I was fast asleep. Why on earth would I get up in the middle of the night to watch a match between two trams I don’t support???
When I came into the office some no mark asked if I was now supporting England…

It would be odd for you to get up in the wee small hours to watch two trams battling it out, I agree.

I like football so am watching most of the matches, unless they’re on at 1/2am, and/or catch ups and highlights. That is all.

1966, so long ago it may as well be 1066…

I was 8 and I watched it with my Dad. It was amazing and triggered a lifelong love of football.

Again, however, support or do not support whichever team you like. Why do you imagine others care?

14 teams played in that World Cup, not quite so easy to win now it’s actually competitive… still let’s keep banging on about it.

The only people I hear 'banging on' about the WC win are people like you complaining about people 'banging on' about it.

The ‘30 years of hurt’ line is now SIXTY years… but still it’s ’coming home’ is it?? 😅

I don't support England in sport. I'm in the anyone but camp. I'm Scots, England has historically been regarded the 'auld enemy' in sporting events.

I'm also a Celtic supporter, so iykyk...

I was Portugal ftw at the start of the tournament, however I'd love to see Norway go all the way now. They play consistently good football, and their fans are legends. Perhaps the SFA could take a leaf out of Norway's book!

It's kind of embarrassing when people reveal that they've never actually listened to that song. I've already had another poster do the same thing today!

If you had ever actually listened to it, you'd know that it's a rather wistful song about how England go into tournaments with high hopes, only to underperform. Time and time again. Maybe inform yourself before making yourself look silly.

Anyways, our new boss has taken the heat off me by saying the same! Despite looking/ sounding English, living in England, having children born in England… he’s Anyone But England because he’s Welsh.
Which seems to be more of an affront than someone of my nationality not supporting England 🤣

Yes. They’d demand the Welsh support England, as England’s first colony 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

The offended English, are really feeding the anyone but England movement with this.

CraftyCoralFinch · 06/07/2026 17:13

Haven't read full thread and I don't know if any other Scouser has thrown this out there yet but...we don't really support England in Liverpool! Proud footballing city with two premier league teams but we always say we're Scouse not English! Don't care about the national team, never have never will. Most of us have Irish ancestry and that along with how the city was treated in the 80's by the Thatcher government probably has everything to do with it 😂 OP maybe come up here for a break from your weird colleagues
