To not support England?!

Live and work in England. Not English. My team didn’t qualify for the World Cup so I’m supporting Scotland! Lobe a plucky underdog, have some Scots heritage ( and some English to be fair) plus I NEVER support English sports teams. EVER.
Football has inevitably come up in the office and several colleagues are generally pissed off that I’m not supporting England, insist I should be etc etc. Stupidly I mentioned that I never support England … did not gone down well.
If you live here then you should etc etc

YANBU - support who you like!
YABU - you ingrate, you live in the country you should support the national team.

To be fair I would struggle these days to name the England team, I did recently ask someone when they were going to see Harry Kane at Wembley, singing not kicking!

If you new the history of how the rest of this country and government has treated this city you would understand why people are anti England and anti establishment

I’ll watch the England matches, but my allegiance will mainly lie with my favourite players - none of whom happen to play for England.

I’ll be cheering for the Netherlands, but there are a few teams that I hope will do well - Cape Verde have definitely been added to that list since their performance yesterday.

It’s just a bit of fun, and you can support whomever you like - it doesn’t mean you hate the country you live in, what an odd notion.

As I Iove mine. I'm lucky in this instance because my country is Scotland and Scots, like the Irish (and Welsh tbh) are loved wherever they go.

There is nothing wrong with people supporting Scotland and the Tartan Army.

They cause a wee lump in my throat tbh as you can see the joy they're feeling, and they never cause any bother. Locals everywhere love them. We got adopted at the Euros!

You love England - I'm kind of guessing you don't love Scotland.

Why don't you just support your own team instead of getting upset by people who don't?

@Differentforgirls Oh I completely understand loving your country. No problem there although I don't think every supporter of the countries you mention are loved. You have your own arseholes as fans. I have no problem with you btw. I do take issue with the several threads OP starts that are blatant in their hatred of the English. It is just weird. Just being hated because we are English.

So why do other Northern towns in England not do the same? They had just as much right as Liverpool to hate Thatcher. They have been treated just as badly. My place was a major fishing city. Still aren't anti English. It is just tiresome. Many of them also had plenty of Irish settling there. Leeds springs to mind.

Yeah so they basically wanted to us to close down- the idea was everyone would move away and Liverpool would cease to become a city and just be swallowed up by the areas around it.

Meh, we support England. But if they ever get knocked out we support Wales (DH grandparents country) and then Scotland (My GGrandparents). I’d support those over say Japan when I lived there because it’s just natural to us.
