I saw that footage, including of witnesses observing and describing the canvassers’/activists’ actions. Really appalling behaviour.

(And of course such canvassers during election campaigns are already armed with lists of names and addresses from their candidate’s permitted election database and the electoral roll.)

Hopefully people don’t interact with these activists on the doorstep, but I suppose spotting a mezuzah on a doorframe is not too difficult if you’re looking out for them.

Surely the electoral register is available for public persual at any library, and anyone can look at it without and reason. I doubt if you need identification either.

I don’t know how it works in England but in Northern Ireland the electoral register isn’t available for random people to just browse for their viewing pleasure. You cannot simply browse the list of names and addresses, you need to make an appointment in person, can only view one voting ward and I’m assuming maybe provide a reason, you are supervised and time limited.

In England there is a full and open register. The open register is an extract from the full and can be viewed. Voters are automatically enrolled but can tick a box to opt out

The Northern Ireland option sounds like a good idea. Horrible to think it may be necessary to consider if it is being used to identify victims, whether by left or right wing thugs.
