AIBU to think teal is an awful choice for interiors?

The colour teal - it is the work of the devil!!! I have no idea why this colour is so popular because it is just GROSS 🤮

watching Interior Design Masters last night and was like ‘Sophie Noooooooo’.

Im not sure why I find it quite so appalling!
No offence if you’ve decorated your house in teal, I’m no interior designer and my home is pretty average but …. Shudder

I love teal and my living room is teal. it isn;t dark at all. The room is South facing and it is lovely. ONe wall (facing the window) is a darker colour called French turquoise and the other walls are morris blue (which is more green than blue)

The colour scheme is always complimented.

StressedLP1 · 10/06/2026 12:47

I love the colour teal but cannot bear any room painted in a strong colour. I have my kitchen painted in a very very light shade of teal - ie pale duck egg, and I love it.

the only pale colour I don’t like is yellow- sorry second poster! My entire house was painted in yellow when I bought it, including the outside, radiators, skirting boards and staircase - I’ve spent many years de-yellowing it.

I love teal

hallenbad · 10/06/2026 12:52

It gives me the shudders as an accent colour. One wall, or cushions, against a light background. work of the devil surely. very suburban Britain early 00s.
I agree, teal walls in a period home with traditional features can work but struggle to like it otherwise.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 10/06/2026 12:54

You'd hate our living room. Although it's more of a bright turquoise than a dark teal.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes.

My least favourite look is the shades of grey and white look- always winter and never Christmas as my husband calls it- closely followed by the sad beige look. I like colours.

FauxFurFrow · 10/06/2026 13:06

Teal can look great. I didn’t like it in Sophie’s design although I loved the leopard print, although I also didn’t like Lia’s darker greens and thought her wall papered ceiling was awful.

BurntBroccoli · 10/06/2026 13:23

I absolutely love teal!

omghereistrouble · 10/06/2026 14:22

big house accent wall but all over nope
btw like it as a clothes colour maybe just again a top or skirt/trousers not all over

Icanseeasquirrel · 10/06/2026 15:03

Another yellow, orange and gold lover here. I had to SUFFER for 20-30 years until grey worked its way out of ubiquity. Still so much of it around. The colour of misery and wet concrete and drizzle and despair.
Teal is fine but that room looks awful.

StylishAndBeautiful · 10/06/2026 16:44

@Icanseeasquirrel , it's still popular. My street has several house rendered and painted grey, and the interiors are probably monochrome. White shutters are popular.

You walk past the grey houses. The sky is grey, the ground is grey, the cars are black, white or grey. The people wear black or grey...

Agree, not a fan!

Thechaseison71 · 10/06/2026 17:01

I live teal. Got a bedroom with teal walls. However blinds, curtains accessories etch mmc are all very light to contrast

Can't think of anything worse than beige/ magnolia type walls

BauhausOfEliott · 10/06/2026 17:11

Don’t paint your house teal, then.

I love teal. We did our bedroom in it and I think it’s gorgeous.

That’s a great colour! Love it.

My house is rendered in dark grey with a pale sage green door. I do like colour, but next door was cream and I wanted it to look complimentary not clashing. I know I’m daft! 😂

StylishAndBeautiful · 10/06/2026 17:13

@Thechaseison71 , i could cope with beige but not magnolia. I like a pale yellow but it needs to be yellow not a yellowish off-white. Teal's not for me.

Yes. If you see a grumpy-looking woman walking by muttering 'The houses looked nice when they were brick' give us a wave.

Those all grey and white interiors are horrible and depressing

With black fixtures and mirrored furniture.

Grey laminate floor, grey walls, grey rug, grey sofa...

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/06/2026 17:25

No decent interior designer is using grey now. It’s 10 years out of date but it was very easy to copy if people don’t have any style.

Those all grey and white interiors are horrible and depressing

Homes Under the Hammer - nearly all the houses end up decorated in grey and white.

Babyputyourpantson · 10/06/2026 17:30

Love it! Have teal walls at home and Teal sofa much better than some other colours but who I am to judge someone's taste 😉
