AIBU to think teal is an awful choice for interiors?

The colour teal - it is the work of the devil!!! I have no idea why this colour is so popular because it is just GROSS 🤮

watching Interior Design Masters last night and was like ‘Sophie Noooooooo’.

Im not sure why I find it quite so appalling!
No offence if you’ve decorated your house in teal, I’m no interior designer and my home is pretty average but …. Shudder

I love teal as a colour.

But personally I can't live with dark coloured walls. So teal walls are a total no for me.

I can only live with yellow walls - different shades varying from subtle lemons to quite bright. Every home I've lived in i've ended up with virtually every room yellow, and those that aren't shades of yellow are white . I find it a colour that lifts my spirits whereas dark solid colours are claustrophobic and depressing for me.

I think it would have to be a really large room with absolutely massive windows for it to not be too dark.

I like teal, but as an accent colour.
As a wall colour it might look a bit Barclays Bank.

I like them in the right context.

I used to have a teal sofa, but it was in a room with pale walls. I like it as an interiors colour.

I like teal as a colour generally. I'd be happy have it as accents, eg cushions or a throw, but not as a huge swathe on walls. It would be too dark in that context for my liking.

Don't buy it if you don't like it.

I love teal. I don't think it would work in my house, but in the right room, it looks stunning.

I've no particularly strong feelings on teal either way, and I haven't seen the programme, but much of my (Victorian) house is painted in strong, darkish colours. It has big rooms and high ceilings, and it suits it.

We used to have a huge, light living room with enormous windows that had mid-teal walls, it looked wonderful, day and night. It works well in a small room too, such as a bathroom or cloakroom, or as an accent wall.
I should add that I don't like really deep teal at all.

I have teal in one bedroom and I love the colour but on its own I think it looks a bit dated. With terracotta or red it looks a bit more modern but I’m surprised people are still decorating with it as I bought the teal accessories 15 years ago 🙈

I have one teal room now. Used to have one teal wall in the lounge of our old house. My bridesmaids were in teal. It's lovely! But each to their own. I can't stand white walls, they always just look clinical and boring to me regardless of anything else in the room. I have none anywhere in my whole house. But I have no problem accepting lots of other people think they look nice.

You do realise it's impossible to paint your walls teal, don't you? It will be "Toy Box" or "Sludgy Sea" or "Squirrel's Fart" without a doubt

I agree but then I dislike any colour other than almond white on walls. Red walls are the worst though.

@Overtheatlantic I LOVE red walls LOL! I adore dark coloured walls generally (we have high ceilings). Was coming on to say everyone likes different stuff. :)

And it's perfectly ok for you to dislike it. No one is making you use it in your home and no one is making you buy a house that uses it (though obviously it's easy to paint over).

It's weird to make a thread to dis a colour you don't like. Very main-character-energy to presume people should adapt their colour choices to suit your tastes.

Product design and marketing professionals are not stupid and don't make choices that leave them with a disproportionate amount of unsold stock. Teal is found in a lot of products because a lot of people like it.

I love teal because it's the colour of the sea on a sunny day!

But only as an accent colour, so if you are talking walls then YANBU.

I love the colour. My parent's vicar lived in a tiny terraced house. The front room was teal and lined with books. I'd always thought dark walls don't work in small rooms, but this was gorgeous. With a fire and lamps lit on a wintry day it was so cosy. And in the summer it felt leafy and cool.

I had a teal sofa but gave it to DS when he got a flat of his own. I miss it.

Ha ha! I was on the Barclays grad scheme. Totally different shade of turquoise 😉

We live in a south facing Thatched cottage and have a navy blue bedroom (white ceiling) and used to have a dark blue sitting room. Love a dark room. I'd be very happy with teal.

Teal goes amazingly with more 'Robust' yellows.
My DD has F&B India yellow (ochre) colour drenched walls and ceiling (high ceiling) with teal/ turquoise chair bed and curtains, with pink accents. It looks great.

She's only 8 once, so why not.

Haha I feel this way about sage green! Anywhere between a grey-green and mint green!
My late grandmother was the same - virtually every room in her house ended up a variation of light green!

I do like Teal, but mostly for clothes - I find it a bit dark for walls.
