AIBU to think teal is an awful choice for interiors?

The colour teal - it is the work of the devil!!! I have no idea why this colour is so popular because it is just GROSS 🤮

watching Interior Design Masters last night and was like ‘Sophie Noooooooo’.

Im not sure why I find it quite so appalling!
No offence if you’ve decorated your house in teal, I’m no interior designer and my home is pretty average but …. Shudder

Teal is one of my favourite colours!

We have a teal sofa , pale yellow walls (not cream ,)

I cover a dark teal Nissan but I don't trust green cars ( superstitious) I could convince myself they are blue though ,if I bought one ?

It's beautiful. In my lounge, I have one small wall covered with a teal japanese garden theme wallpaper (it's a small area, just the chimney breast) , it is absolutely stunning. The rest of the walls are white so it really pops. If you style it right it's lovely, but like anything, too much of it and it would be a no no.

Ha ha! I was on the Barclays grad scheme. Totally different shade of turquoise 😉

I love teal.

We live in a south facing Thatched cottage and have a navy blue bedroom (white ceiling) and used to have a dark blue sitting room. Love a dark room. I'd be very happy with teal.

yes! ‘Barclays blue’ is not teal. Trust me I know as I had to dress head to foot in it in the 80’s

Disagree- teal and other petrol shades can look absolutely stunning when done well. Endless teal walls are not going to look good but an accent wall in teal with petrol coloured accessories and maybe some peacock feather shades would look stunning

I love teal.

Purple and red walls are what make my body shudder!!!

Deadringer · Today 10:06

I like teal but I prefer light colours on my walls. Dd has her bedroom painted in a dark teal, including the ceiling and she loves it.

MyArtfulGreySloth · Today 10:07

Weird. I might start a thread stating I hate the colour orange. On second thoughts, who cares?

StylishAndBeautiful · Today 10:08

I don't like the colour at all. It seems a fuddy-duddy colour like in the sort of outdoorsy clothes that appeal to women who wear purple or teal fleeces.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Today 10:09

I have De Nimes by F&B in my cloakroom and although it’s not teal, it’s in the same family of colours. However it’s a more muted look and is fantastic. What Sophie chose was just too bright and wrong for the property. It was fairly obvious who would win when the jungle look was chosen by Sophie and the snake wallpaper would give children nightmares!

tiramisugelato · Today 10:09

I love teal. Much more interesting than bloody grey or magnolia.

KnittyKnotty · Today 10:09

Colour is totally personal preference. I can't see the attraction of turning your house interior 50 shades of grey but that's been popular for years now.

BaronessBomburst · Today 10:11

DS's small, north-facing bedroom is teal. It was white with pale blue accents, and was cold and boring. Now it's dark teal with brilliant white ceiling and furniture and looks fantastic.
It wasn't called Squirrels Fart though. It was Q0.50.40, which is a lot less exciting.

justasoul · Today 10:12

Well OP I am a designer and my hallway is teal (dulux teal tension, flat matt) Grin It's on its way out, mind, as I painted it 8-ish years ago, but colour is something very personal. I don't particularly like yellow but can't really impose my taste on my clients, after all, they will be the ones actually living in the house.

Wednesdaysotherchild · Today 10:22

I love teal! Most blues and greens in fact.

I cannot understand why people paint their houses brown, orange or beige. But each to their own!

My sister had a green car once, and she said people were always pulling out in front of her - a few near misses and an accident (not her fault!). She thought it was maybe because she lived rurally and people didn’t see her?!

I love teal and loved her hallway. It's a hallway, in a period property, that looked like it doesn't get much daylight. No amount of Tasteful White is going to change that to make it bright and airy, so much better to lean into it with something rich and punchy.
Very much an each to their own though as my tiny hallway is bright pink and I think I'd cry if I had almond white walls!

Gilltthepill · Today 10:41

I think it looked nice in the TV programme room as it was a large period property. Wasn’t so sure about the leopard skin look ceiling with it! Doesn't look so good in my opinion in non period properties.

SwatTheTwit · Today 10:42

I didn’t see the program you mention but I think it just depends on the context. I like decor that matches the environment, so for me teal is a very coastal and/or summery colour.

ShodAndShadySenators · Today 10:50

I don't mind teal but for some reason I've never fathomed orange shades (in decor) make me quite angry. Terracotta, peach, zesty... grrr. Don't understand why I have such a strong reaction to a particular colour, but there you are.

I bought a knicker set that included an orange pair, I tried to get over it and just wear them but in the end I chucked them. Just can't stand it Confused

Didimum · Today 10:53

The only opinion that matters is the person's whose home it is or clothes they are – but, no, I'm not a fan of teal.

LettuceAndCarrots · Today 10:57

But you can have a pale teal. I have several rooms in Dulux jade white and I find it really cool and calming. I'm not such a fan of a dark teal but I'm not a fan of dark walls of any colour. But they can work in the right place.

TropicalFishAreTwats · Today 11:00

Teal and Rose gold looks lovely to me ...it is definitely on my list when I redecorate the lounge!
I am not bothered if I am 8+ years out of date, my kitchen has mustard yellow and navy paint on the walls - apparently very out of date now but I'm not bothered because I like the combination of colours!

fartotheleftside · Today 11:01

In a period house almost any colour can work.

Deep colours, including teal, are much more difficult to pull off in modern homes

Maybe hidden by all the leaves and grass?
There is a reason ( as with all superstition) behind the green car bad luck.
Back in the day when racing cars were Racing Green they were statistically more likely to be involved in collision.
A car salesman told me this ( why would a car salesman lie) when I was buying a used motor and said "no green"

I embrace teal over grey any day
