It’s not just all a massive coincidence. It’s an evolution. These traffickers consider themselves to be operating a business model. Like all business models, if one avenue of creating money becomes too high risk and high effort for low reward, they look to diversify into an easier way to make money. That’s exactly what they’ve done here. As I’ve already explained to you on several posts, the boats started increasing several years before Brexit and because they’ve been so successful, surprise surprise, they’ve increased the scale and others have joined them, hence the higher numbers. You would be beyond naive if you thought that traffickers, or any of the people using their services gave a shit about the Dublin Agreement. It wasn’t effective when we had it.

Any references to “crime by foreigners” as a distinct problem were met with charges of xenophobia and racism. What has moved the Overton Window is a stream of grim crime statistics published by government agencies or, just as frequently, leaked to journalists.

I agree and the same. However there's no getting away from the fact that 'bad apples' - or muslim extremists, are numerous. There are approximately 2 billion Muslims in the world, making Islam the second-largest religion and accounting for about 26% of the global population.

Do the maths - that's a lots of 'bad apples', even though it's only 'some'.

Well I’ve woken up to news reports of protests leading to burning buses in Belfast and apparently the guy that had his neck sliced was a vulnerable Scottish guy who lived in neighbouring social housing to the alleged knife wielder. We are not Germany.

We are known for being accepting and tolerant of hundreds of migrant communities. It is what makes Britain such an amazing place to live. Our capital is run by a Muslim mayor, who is as British as they come. And figures show that the more diverse a community is, the less likely they are to vote for far right parties.

It is fear and not experience that leads people to call for wholesale bans on immigration. And the high number of people on this thread wanting to ban Muslims and Black people from coming here tells me you haven’t spent time in environments where you encounter immigrants as people. You see them as a homogeneous mass of “invaders” who somehow threaten our way of life.

Our hospitals and care homes and hospitality industries are populated by migrants, so I hope you don’t get ill or need care or enjoy a takeaway from India or China.

Or maybe I do hope you get ill and need care because you might then encounter Mohammed and Aysha and Latisha and see that they are as human as you and I and have the same dreams, cares and worries that we do.
