Rainbows everywhere. Hi. I walked into the office building yesterday and rainbow stuff everywhere. Nearby nursery has all rainbow colours on fencing and there was an ambulance with rainbow colours. A bit ridiculous?

Can we do away with all the tacky Union Jack bunting and flags too?

My Union Jack bunting is gorgeous. It’s handmade and fabric.

@abathofmilkwithladydii haven’t seen anything from Hello Fresh - not even a Gay Pride special meal (we had Easter, St Patrick’s Day and Mothers Day ones).
One of our zebra crossings in town is a rainbow but that’s permanent. So pretty!

Pride is about sexuality and love. Unless those guys are having sex with cars its not a fair comparision. How do you imagine straight men would celebrate straight sex and love?

You do seem to have a fascination with kink.

ReflectingPool · 07/06/2026 10:58

So funny how it's people who aren't actually part of the so called lgbtqi+ community that want to celebrate it so much. There's not much to celebrate within it right now*

Being an older person, with several gay friends from way back, none of them are happy with the new iteration which has strayed so far from the original concept of pride day. They don't feel it's for them any more.

It might look pretty but one of the reasons zebra crossings are black and white is to make them more easily visible to visually impaired people.

So, not very inclusive.

Will you feel the same when England progress in the World Cup and the flags are everywhere? Did you feel the same for the jubilee?

That would be a yes from me

It’s pride month. And no it’s not ridiculous - it’s needed given that we appear to be going backwards.

Utterly OTT. I’m with you OP. And why they need to be in a nursery is beyond me.

Because it’s pride month. And shock horror, some of the children in those nurseries will have two mum or two dad families.

EmBear91 · 07/06/2026 18:47

Katypp · 06/06/2026 14:18

Seconded. Why we have adopted this silly ostentatious signalling of our allegiances is beyond me. It's the same as the NHS lanyards, which thankfully the Government looks like it's bringing an end to.
We don't need others' views rammed down our throats as we go about our business.
It's just an opportinity to virtue signal and draw attention to yourself. It's also diversive but i suspect that is why some do it anyway

Actually it’s nothing to do with wanting to change bigots minds. I couldn’t give a shit about homophobes, transphobes etc. It’s actually to represent to the people in the LGBTQ community that you are a safe space. I’m a queer woman and midwife and I want everyone to know that I am a safe person so will continue to wear a pride badge at work.

What is the problem with people who have been historically oppressed celebrating their difference? Just live and let live ffs

Nothing at all. I'm just not sure why there has to be such a song and dance about it. Live and let live. IMO the whole Pride thing has morphed into an annual virtue-signalling extravaganza

ReflectingPool · 07/06/2026 19:08

Maybe because being a disabled person, carer volunteer etc have never been a criminal offence that had to be kept quiet

Having a child/relative with LD was extremely "kept quiet" in the 50s/60s when I grew up.

A child like mine would have been locked away in an institution. I grew up near the Meanwood Park Colony. Google it. Pretty much a prison for nothing they did wrong. There were similar places all over the country.

Today my adult child lives in a house with 2 friends, supported 24 hours by
carers. A world of difference from the people in Meanwood Colony.
I think this is just as worthy of a month long celebration

Likewise the carers who aid people with their day to day living and help them reach their full potential.

If we went backwards it would be just a day.

StormGazing · 07/06/2026 19:15

It’s great that lots of people are supporting the community .., my dog has a suitable bandana for this month 🌈🏳️‍🌈

Scout2016 · 07/06/2026 19:41

One issue I have is that it's cheap and lazy virtue signalling for PR without doing anything meaningful. eg. Put some rainbows up at the train station but don't sort out accessibility issues for disabled passengers because that involves money and effort.

Is there something about you that would make people suspect you would discriminate on grounds of sexuality if you didn’t wear a badge?

Once you’ve bought into that premise, the badge, at best, only shows you are a “safe person” for LGBTQ people.

How will Muslims know you are a safe person? I’m sure you aren’t an Islamophobe so I hope you wear a badge.

And Jews of course. They aren’t any less worthy than Muslims, I’m sure you agree. What do you wear for them?

Also Christians, atheists, those with hearing loss, travellers, immigrants, people with dementia, children, black people, white people, etc etc etc.

I’m sure you get the point.

Wouldn’t it be more efficient for staff to wear badges denoting who they are unsafe around, and then everyone else can relax?

PinkyFlamingo · 07/06/2026 19:45

Are you homophobic?

Sesma · 07/06/2026 19:52

It's just another one of those things that has gone a bit over the top like everything does here. A load of rainbows suddenly appeared in the covid times, were they for Pride or something different that went along with the manic clapping and pot banging.

Skinnysaluki · 07/06/2026 20:26

I have zero tolerance of the disgusting pejorative expression ‘virtue signalling’

First of all, there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with virtue, especially the virtue of belief in equality and human rights.

Secondly there is nothing wrong with signalling those beliefs to others, especially if they are made to feel shame or fear because of who they are.

Finally, the people who sneer at ‘virtue signalling’ are those who do NOT possess the virtues of tolerance, acceptance and the belief in equality. If anyone should feel ashamed it’s them.

Would you say you model the virtues of tolerance, acceptance and the belief in equality?

To me the expression means it's empty signalling without any meaning. Stick some rainbows up and consider the job done, with the job being PR points not any attempt to improve life for any minority or oppressed groups or even their employees. Abercrombie and Finch for example make a show of supporting Pride and donating to charity while facing a number of scandals. Footballers in rainbow laces or armbands who then play in countries with horrific human rights standards, including anti same sex laws.

How many companies who plastered Black Lives Matter slogans over things did anything about ensuring more diversity in their recruitment, particularly among their senior management, and continue to flog sweat shop landfill etc.

There will be MPs photographed at Pride who do bugger all the rest of the year.

This is what I mean by virtue signalling.

Likewise the BBC sticks a poppy on everyone at the requisite time and has photo shopped them in where someone hasn't worn one. It just becomes meaningless.

ThaneOfGlamis · 07/06/2026 21:06

Yes ramming it down people's throats. It's well known that swallowing a rainbow turns you gay. Just stay away from light rain showers and you might be able to keep yourself straight.

What about those little rainbow coloured sweets? Are they Secret Lesbian Pills?

(makes a mental note to buy a few packets next time I go to Spar)

I suspect it’s because everyone claims oppression now. There’s a general weariness at the victimhood everywhere. Even my teen comes home and said everyone at school is always offended. Words are literal violence, rules are oppression, consequences are injustice. I can’t imagine what it must be like to work in a secondary school right now.

There is plenty of factual evidence detailing the oppression of LGBTQ people. Pride means they are celebrating who they are and the advances in breaking free from that oppression. “Virtue” has nothing to do with it. It’s a display of community, allies, and joy. They are not presenting themselves as victims. They are actively showing up to exercise their rights of free speech and freedom of assembly. Rainbow themed signs and banners are markers of recognition and support. Do people who hate rainbows also hate Christmas decorations in December because they are atheists, Jewish, Buddhist and they hate being assaulted with displays of fairy lights and holly? Honestly, isn’t there some greater issue these rainbow resisters could be complaining about? Something they could work on to make the world better? Save the whales? Crochet blankets for orphans? Pick up litter in the parks?

I don't know if she found a pot of gold or not but I can tell you what I and many others have found at the end of this LGBTQ+ rainbow....a big pot of shit.

And now you’re sharing your shit with us! No, thank you. But I’m sure you’ll find a place for it,
