Rainbow colours everywhere

Rainbows everywhere. Hi. I walked into the office building yesterday and rainbow stuff everywhere. Nearby nursery has all rainbow colours on fencing and there was an ambulance with rainbow colours. A bit ridiculous?

Plus you know if you let straight men anywhere near organising a straight pride festival it is going to be sexualised to the max and give Pride a run for it's money. Does anyone want a festival of straight male kink?

Well my irony meter just exploded

dinodart · 07/06/2026 06:42

the beautiful rainbow was ruined by pride (as pride is now anyway)... I didn't even used to mind pride (attended myself once), until it got taken over by gender identity ideology which I don't believe in. now I have to see reminders of what I basically think of as hardcore misogyny and compelled speech everywhere...

Well we live in a democracy and all have to tolerate what we don’t want to see- Reform propaganda anyone. Many, many others don’t agree with your views on Pride and value it hugely.

TheShed7 · 06/06/2026 14:07

I stand with the OP. I cut the heads off flowers too. No colours around if I can help it.

It's also why I only watch the start of Pleasantville movie and switch it off before the bits of colour come in

You might need to talk to a therapist about your hatred of anything colorful. And there are young people who couldn't be bribed to watch a black and white movie no matter how great it is. I don't understand these views at all.

I can't understand why one unremarkable group in society has to be celebrated in this way, especially as many gay people find themselves at odds with what Stonewall and Pride now represent. Celebrating pride week and trans visibility month is almost mandatory in some sectors. Are disabled people, carers, volunteers etc not deserving of a fraction of the platform and forced visibility this political movement has hijacked.

Maybe because being a disabled person, carer volunteer etc have never been a criminal offence that had to be kept quiet otherwise you would be arrested?

RampantIvy · 07/06/2026 07:24

Our Reform led council have removed the rainbow flag from the town hall 🙁

Clonakilla · 07/06/2026 07:58

daysofpearlyspencer · 06/06/2026 15:32

So completely passed me by, guessing there were no flags or specially labelled products in the shops

How did pass you by, given your commitment to disabled activism? It wasn’t mentioned at any of the charities for which you volunteer or by any of your many friends with disabilities? It didn’t come up in your many networks of people commited to representing and supporting people with disabilities?

Assuming of course that you’re interested in and committed to the rights of disabled people not just engaging in embarrassing whatsaboutery whilst being too lazy even to google.

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/06/2026 08:11

I wouldn't mind if it was just a little promotion but it feels like people ramming it down people's necks. OTT wokery and looking very tacky.

To be honest, I think your reaction is a bit tame. I get our old black and white tv out of the loft every time we watch The Wizard of Oz and we watch it all the way through like that. We fast forward "Somewhere over the rainbow" too. This is what commitment to a true cause really looks like.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 07/06/2026 08:35

Pleasantville! One of my favourite films. Nobody else I know has ever heard of it 😁

It’s a cause? Say more.

It’s a cause? Say more.

It's the "Anti light reflecting, refracting and dispersing" movement, which has close ties with the "Anti interaction of light, matter, and the human eye" faction of the Order of the Black and White Only Supremacy.

My bingo card is now full!

We’ve got ‘ramming it down people’s necks’ ( please explain how displaying a flag does this)

What do I win?

Rainbow Brite, the ponies with rainbow hair, C&A window logo-if you were born in the 80s,, rainbows were everywhere anyway!

Great list but you missed “Paint the whole world with a rainbow” Rainbow

Joyful!

Seebiscuits · 07/06/2026 09:28

So they bave Reform stopping pride and Labour attacking GC thinking. The lesbian citadel of Hebden needs to rise in the north!

Could we launch an army of Mumsnetters to help game of thrones style flags everywhere 🇬🇱

RampantIvy · 07/06/2026 09:32

It's the same in Barnsley.

Marieb19 · 07/06/2026 09:34

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 06/06/2026 15:27

Here you go - Disability Awareness Month.
So no need to worry, there's one for disabilities awareness too. https://www.healthassured.org/blog/disability-history-month/

Carers Week starts on Monday! https://www.carersuk.org/press-releases/carers-week-2026-launches-theme-building-carer-friendly-communities/
Just in time for you to show your support.

But they don't have a stranglehold on our institutions. They don't have obligatory posters, flags and lanyards in our public institutions and they don't have tax payer funded parades funded.

I don't do activism, sadly haven't got the energy or physicality any more, I volunteer when I can for very small charities, we are not big organisations, struggling to just do what we can.

I absolutely loved Pride month when I first came out about 30 years ago, but back then it was about LGB & the right to be same sex attracted.

Now, it’s about the TQ+ & is the exact opposite.

I’m staying well away & I think a lot of these posts are either bloody disingenuous or don’t know what’s going on.

Sadly true.

I’m sending best wishes to all LGB people, and asking the sex-fetishists to give the rest of us a break.

Fabulous. I’ll add it to my collection.

I notice that you didn’t answer the question about how it’s ’ramming It down people’s throats’. TBH it sounds like you’re just trotting out phrases you’ve seen elsewhere without thinking about what it actually means.

Can we do away with all the tacky Union Jack bunting and flags too?

Needmorelego · 07/06/2026 10:01

@TalkToTheHand123 oh you came back.
I will tell you a secret about how to handle seeing rainbow flags that you don't like.....
You ignore them.
That's it.
