To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

It’s literally been on the news tonight that European airports are facing huge delays because of it 😂

Came back from Murcia on Friday. No queue at all. Been travelling to Europe and back every 3 weeks since last November. No major queues. But what would I know about it? The media, who of course have no interest in harvesting clicks by whipping everyone into a frenzy, are clearly the experts here. Just cancel then. I, however, will carry on travelling. 🤷‍♀️

Luciferthethird · 30/05/2026 23:13

Wise up, I’ve flown multiple times in the past 6 months I’ve yet to miss a flight, the longest wait I’ve had was in Milan and that was after my flight getting into the country.

you’re being very dramatic 🙄

LathkillDale · 30/05/2026 23:13

NRTFT. We went to Greece 2 weeks ago. They saw our British passports and waved us through - no fingerprints or photos! Greece has an income of £3.5 billion pa from British tourists. They announced they weren’t going to lose that revenue this summer, because British tourists went elsewhere rather than face EES.

Mingydinghy · 30/05/2026 23:13

I went to Madeira with easyjet a couple of weeks ago. The new system was a bit of a pain and, for the return leg, it did add a bit of time to passport control on the way to the gate. Jet2 staff were pulling out some of their passengers from the queue because their flight was about to leave, but we made it without that much bother. If you have checked in hold luggage, the flight won't leave without you - they'd have to take your luggage off the plane first, because it's a security risk to fly unaccompanied luggage.

But I don't think you want to listen to reason. I think you want to cancel so you can feel like a victim. Go ahead. It doesn't affect any of us in the slightest what you choose to do with your holiday plans.

dementedpixie · 30/05/2026 23:13

We arrived in lanzarote last thursday and i think it took about an hour/just over to get through passport control/do the EES stuff. Thought we would miss being able to pick up our hire car but the shuttle bus was still there to take us to the car hire place. Hoping its faster going the other direction

ByPeachPeer · 30/05/2026 23:14

Put the daily mail down 😆

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 30/05/2026 23:15

Well the uk has introduced the eta so why would the eu be willing to let Brits off. And before you say anything the eta initiative started before starmer (as far as I am aware).

They could easily negotiate a deal with the EU wherein we’re excluded from those checks. But he has to pretend to be a man of the people with his “Gooner” status.

Oh really? Easily negotiate? 🙄

canklesmctacotits · 30/05/2026 23:15

You’re being ridiculous - and wrong.

NO AIRPLANE CAN TAKE OFF WITH YOUR LUGGAGE UNLESS YOU ARE ON THE PLANE TOO. Because bombs.

Go, don’t go, up to you. But don’t post inaccurate or false shit. There’s enough already on the internet 🙄

ThatLilacTiger · 30/05/2026 23:16

Omg just don't fucking go then.

Mylittlepea · 30/05/2026 23:18

OP, you’re not listening to any advice people are sharing here so not sure why you posted for advice?

I’ve taken approx 20 flights in & out of Europe since Oct 25 when the EES was introduced. Never arrived at any airport more than 2 hours before my flights and not had a single issue. FACT.

just be sensible, arrive early, immediately go through security after bag drop (pay for fast track if you want peace of mind) then go immediately to your gate once it’s announced & sit there until it’s time to board.

better than missing your trip & staying home surely?

Get a grip!
These threads are so boring.

I do wonder if the increase in these stupid threads is a deliberate attempt to ruin Mumsnet.

IdBeLionIfISaid · 30/05/2026 23:18

You're being absolutely ridiculous

YourPoliteTurtle · 30/05/2026 23:18

It may well take longer, but flights are full of people strolling at the last minute, faffing around and who can't even be bother to make their way through the gates even after security.

Give yourself time, or cancel. What do you want people to say?
Ryanair does not want checked-in people to miss their flights because they are delayed through security, with baggage already gone through, it's not a conspiracy to ruin people's lives.

Thelonelyshrew · 30/05/2026 23:19

Just cancel.

Flipflopsandsunhat · 30/05/2026 23:20

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:50

I want to go. I’m heartbroken that I’m going to have to cancel, but I guess that’s what spineless Starmer gets you. He’s more bothered by the football than getting us closer to Europe and sorting this mess out.

You're choosing to cancel, for no good reason. Read the post specifically about Milan airport up thread. It will be fine.

Ubugly · 30/05/2026 23:22

Dont they take your suitcase off the plane if you dont actually get on the plane.

The only reason that you might have to cancel is because of your totally irrational meltdown. If you do genuinely suffer from such crippling anxiety that you can't cope with this then I feel very sorry for you and hope you can get some help for your problem. But it is a bit silly to be blaming the Government, the EU, Brexit, Ryanair and/or Kier Starmer for your potentially lost holiday when it is your own issues that are the stumbling block.

MeltyMomenrs · 30/05/2026 23:24

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:49

Because the Airbnb cut off for check in is midnight. Normally would be fine. Now the government is spineless and allowing this to happen, it’s not going to be fine.

You are anxious & not being rational. Just go & take it one step at a time.

they just waved you through? No they didn’t.they stamped your passport

Tortoisel · 30/05/2026 23:25

I do not know how people’s conclusion to ‘EU implements shit system’ is to blame the U.K. for voting to leave.

Come on now!

Just stop it now, please. Maybe think it through again in the morning.

If you want to go, it should be fine. If you don’t want to go back out, but don’t blame this for it.

And (I say this as someone who really doesn’t rate Starmer), don’t blame him or him supporting Arsenal for this.
