To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

I want to go. I’m heartbroken that I’m going to have to cancel, but I guess that’s what spineless Starmer gets you. He’s more bothered by the football than getting us closer to Europe and sorting this mess out.

Sorry I re-read your OP and can see you’ve already done Norway and are going somewhere different now.

There’s a 99% chance all will be fine. I’ve been straight sailed through the past 3 EU airports I’ve visited! Mind you Lanzarote last November was carnage.

titchy · 30/05/2026 22:52

What the fucks it got to do with Ryanair what time you go through security? Confused Don’t check in any baggage, turn up six hours early if you want job done.

Or catastrophise and never do anything ever again. Up to you.

bittertwisted · 30/05/2026 22:54

this has not entered even the tiniest corner of my mind, travelling within Europe 3 times in the next 2 months, and I’m still not remotely worried after reading this
you really should cancel, you won’t enjoy it, evident you are not going to be reassured

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 30/05/2026 22:54

Well how about travelling with hand luggage?? Vacuum pack your clothes. Buy sun cream, etc at destination or in duty free?

Then you can go through security well in advance and not be so stressed.

ChickenBananaBanana · 30/05/2026 22:54

You're ignoring what people are saying and being daft now

ToffeeCrabApple · 30/05/2026 22:54

I think you've gone a teeny bit crackers op.

Dh & I went through with the kids in Italy. It was a bit slower than it has been, it wasn't awful and certainly wasn't "missing flights".

I think the people who are getting caught are the ones who like to sit in airport bars till the last call for their gate, only to have not remembered there's passport control before the gate (with a queue) in many European airports.

OnGoldenPond · 30/05/2026 22:55

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:23

No, you can’t. It’s three hour queues in the airport to get through. I did it in Norway. You have to be seen by a person.

You don’t need to be seen by a person if the airport you go to has the registration machines and egates fully up and running. Most do, despite the sensationalist headlines. Many are reporting small queues. Where are you flying to?

Ah yes, Keir Starmer is the spineless one whilst you’re having a meltdown and wanting to cancel a holiday over something that will likely be fine as thousands of people are doing it everyday. But sure, it’s Keir Starmer’s fault because of checks notes football

I'm not sure I'd lay the blame for Brexit at Starmer's feet, to be fair.

I voted YABU because I travelled to and from the EU this last week (as a family) and it went nice and quick both ways. Maybe depends where you're going? I think the media is doing its usual thing and blowing things out of proportion.

TheLocust · 30/05/2026 22:56

You're clearly not going to listen to a word anyone says on here, so just go ahead and cut your nose off to spite your face.

CheeseWisely · 30/05/2026 22:57

To add OP, I work in travel. I had almost 1000 clients fly between the UK and Europe just today and I’m the emergency contact for all of them. I have had exactly 0 calls.

Andouillette · 30/05/2026 22:57

Puppylucky · 30/05/2026 22:48

It literally is as we are now 3rd nation status

Goodness me, how ever did we manage back in ye olden days when passport control was in operation everywhere?

Pwlinafowl · 30/05/2026 22:57

OP in your shoes I would cancel and sort out my glue habit.

They wouldn’t call you though would they 😂 you’re a travel agent and it’s a Saturday. You’d be their last thought

In February most airports didn’t have the machines up and running and were still manually stamping passports. Sounds like that was your experience in Norway so you are not yet registered with the electronic system. Most airports are now handling this without excessive delays.

It’s Starmer’s fault that he’s more bothered about Arsenal losing a game of football than he is about negotiating a deal with the EU as soon as possible to get this sorted.

OP you need to see a medical professional about your anxiety - this reaction is so unbelievably over the top and irrational.

Hundreds of thousands of Brits have flown in and out of the EU this week for half term holidays - they aren’t all stuck in endless loops of passport control whilst their bags get whisked off to another airport without them.

clapyourhandsifyourworkingtoohard · 30/05/2026 22:58

We've recently been through Amsterdam (remember the size of that airport!) and Tenerife.
All was finexx

It’s literally been on the news tonight that European airports are facing huge delays because of it 😂

And that is why the news is reporting these huge delays. Because it’s happened.

What has this got to do with the current UK government? It’s an EU rule FGS. (And before you have a go at me OP I voted Remain!) You are catastrophising and overthinking it - just go to the airport a bit earlier than normal like everyone else will have to do. I’ve been to Spain since the new rules and it was no hassle at all, maybe 5-10 mins in a small queue. Good luck and breathe…..

Conchiglie · 30/05/2026 22:59

I flew to Portugal and back last week with Ryanair, it was fine.

Kinekia · 30/05/2026 23:00

OP if you tell us where you are going then people will be able to advise. The queue of Brits at the EES is obviously going to be different depending on whether you’re going to somewhere popular like Benidorm or somewhere niche like Kosice (as an example)

Summerbay23 · 30/05/2026 23:00

@idontwanttogoanymore you seem to have already made up your mind despite what anyone else is saying so I’m not sure what else can be said really. Two choices cancel or risk it. I know what I’d be doing.

Sloelydoesit · 30/05/2026 23:01

Not entirely sure how it's Kier Starmer's fault either....
