To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

Of course it’s the end of the world if your suitcase goes to London and you end up across the country. Fucking government not stepping up and sorting it is a joke

You are being somewhat hysterical and unwilling to listen.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 30/05/2026 23:01

what do you want the government to do? This is a new entry system for the eu, they are not singling out the British.

you may need to queue longer but just plan for that. If you are so worried about the bag drop off then just take hand luggage.

you have got yourself worked up and need to take a moment to breathe, stop and think. Instead of panicking try to think calmly and plan accordingly.

They wouldn’t call you though would they 😂 you’re a travel agent and it’s a Saturday. You’d be their last thought

I’m literally the EMERGENCY 24 hour on-call contact on their paperwork, so yes they would. In fact this is the first weekend in many that we’ve not had any calls (although none have been related to EES).

suki1964 · 30/05/2026 23:02

Learn to travel light, underseat free case and book in online - got through ok so far

The only trouble we have had, is getting DH's fingerprints. He has arthritis and dupuytrens - his fingers are curled into his palm and dont move. But a bit of brute force we got through in minutes

You are being incredibly rude when that poster was simply trying to reassure you.

I was going to ask if it was possible for you to get an Irish passport, but I kind of hope not.

Fluffyhoglets · 30/05/2026 23:03

So you're being rather hysterical and somehow blaming keir starmer for this situation - it's EU rules and sadly there's not much he currently do about EU rules.
This the tories, farage and brexits fault.

WarriorN · 30/05/2026 23:04

We were with Ryan air at the weekend; there was a bit of a queue but not massive

the main issue was that the new machines weren’t always working. That why they want people to be prepared

i managed to get the one on the way home to work and it was really quick.

Tomorroisalwaysanewday · 30/05/2026 23:05

@idontwanttogoanymore you are being really OTT. Cancel if you want to but you'll 100% regret it as you'll never get to see things were fine. I've travelled twice by Ryanair to Europe (with luggage) in past 4 weeks - no issues - no massive queues , bag drop / check in was opened when we arrived 3 hours before. But from your responses you don't seem to want rational / helpful information , just a rant about the government .

It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve had this holiday planned for a year and now I can’t go because of fucking Brexit, which I’ve never agreed with. It’s maddening

You’re still not over Brexit ten years later? I didn’t vote for Brexit either and hate that we’ve left the EU, for various reasons, but I’ve made my peace with it now.

I bloody hate Brexit too but the OP seems to be the one isolating herself from the EU with her anxiety and it’s a shame. Brexit didn’t affect holidays that much at all. She’s assuming her holiday is a fail without even trying to go.

WhitePudding · 30/05/2026 23:06

I flew to and from Gran Canaria and came back on Monday both flights with Ryanair. Luton I had a fast track bag drop attached to my ticket. You go up to a machine, print off your label and whack it on the luggage belt thing, scan your label and off it goes. Easy peasy.id also purchased fast track through Luton Airport for security. Arrived at the airport at 5 and flight was at 7. Plane up in air by 7:10 and land 1/2 hr early. Eye and finger recognition thing was quite quick. Picked up luggage and was in the hotel by 11:30.

Return there was no fast track bag drop but you queue up. They were calling out for those going to different locations at an earlier time before starting the process for the Luton flight. Security was a breeze.

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:41

I’d say it’s because the vast majority travel hand luggage only. The EU have said you must be there three hours before.

Never mind the fact it’ll take me a century to get in, and my flight lands at 9:30! its a shit show

Travel hand luggage too! We only travel hand luggage. I never understand why people take such big suitcases.

chalkpaint · 30/05/2026 23:06

It’s hit and miss tbh. Malaga is absolutely atrocious though atm 🙈

mrsfollowill · 30/05/2026 23:07

Flew to Italy and back 2 weeks ago- all fine- I was worried about delays too but didn't happen Grin- the news is misleading as usual

Notthisagainyouidiot · 30/05/2026 23:08

Ryanair bag drop is 3 hours. I was rejected at 3 hours 1 minute and allowed at 3 hours.
Suitcases do not fly without the passenger: that would be a security risk.
Also I flew to Norway before EES and it was one of the slower airports. And it's not EU either.

NoMoreLifts · 30/05/2026 23:08

I worried about this when I went to Gran Canaria at Easter, but it was painless. Nothing had changed on the UK side that I could see. At Gran Canaria, we were all shuffled to a line queue to register passport, fingerprints, face, but loads of machines and it moved quickly. Was out of airport within 40 mins of landing. Then, when leaving, I could just use the automatic machine for passport, as I was registered.

I want to go. I’m heartbroken that I’m going to have to cancel, but I guess that’s what spineless Starmer gets you. He’s more bothered by the football than getting us closer to Europe and sorting this mess out.

What do you actually expect Starmer or the government to do?

RumPidgeon · 30/05/2026 23:09

If you think Ryanair will mess up why can’t you cancel and rebook on SAS or BA? Why choose a cheap budget airline if you’re a stress head and can’t cope with queues?

Thanks! We are off to GC over summer and was wondering how it would all work so this has set my mind at ease.

This wasn’t an issue when I booked.

Not everyone can afford to spend £200 on flights just to cancel, lose that, and rebook.

They could easily negotiate a deal with the EU wherein we’re excluded from those checks. But he has to pretend to be a man of the people with his “Gooner” status.

Starting to think EES isn't the problem here.

ilovesooty · 30/05/2026 23:11

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 22:58

It’s Starmer’s fault that he’s more bothered about Arsenal losing a game of football than he is about negotiating a deal with the EU as soon as possible to get this sorted.

Don't be ridiculous.

AllyMacbealmyarse · 30/05/2026 23:12

Starmer has absolutely no say in this @idontwanttogoanymore , and the eu have no vested interest in making life better or easier for uk citizens (quite the opposite in fact). I voted against Brexit btw.

You are catastrophising. I flew to Spain last week, we queued over an hour to get in as we had a kid, but those without all went through gates and it was fine. Coming back to uk queues were 20 mins max.

If you don’t want to go or don’t have the mental resilience right now that’s fine, but accept that is the reason and then use that to galvanise yourself to get help for the future rather than wanging on self indulgently about the wrong things.

Elphamouche · 30/05/2026 23:12

OP, kindly, you need to chill the fuck out.
