I flew last week.
Registration on entry took about ten minutes, which was fine as my flight was twenty minutes early so I had to hang around waiting for my friend picking me up!
On return I got to the airport 4 hrs early. It has electronic gates to security but was time limited to 2hrs before the flight. I tried at 2hrs 30 and it did allow me through. It was a doddle. Bit of a queue but through security in 15 mins and passport control took two minutes.
It very genuinely depends on which airport you are flying through and how busy the airport is.
I had been panicking about it all but it was a absolute breeze.
Now, I flew through Schiphol last year before the introduction of the gates. That took use nearly two hours to clear passport control. That was fun. I have a hatred of Schiphol which goes back several trips and I wish to avoid if at all possible regardless of the new system or not.
Tbh, I think it depends on the size of the airport and how many none EU flights there are. A small airport with only a couple of flights a day to none EU destinations is going to be much better than Schiphol which is a world gateway city and huge.
Ryanair by default, tends to fly from the smaller more provincial airports so is less likely to be an issue, than say easyJet who go through some of the bigger airports such as Schiphol.
Your biggest problem airports are likely to be Brits abroad hotspots.
Norway? No not so much of an issue.
