I’m 40 in late July and have been talking about with dh not using condoms or any other form of conception anymore

DalmationalAnthem · 29/05/2026 22:21

Is the original post just to announce an attempt at trying to conceive @68days ?

Howmanycatsistoomany · 29/05/2026 22:22

OK well good luck with that!

IdaGlossop · 29/05/2026 22:24

Conception with a condom. That's a new one on me. Is a little pinprick involved?

I got pregnant twice after 40: one miscarriage, one amazing DD.

I would NEVER risk it at 40! 😱 The chance of getting pregnant then is much slimmer than at when you're under 30, but the chances are fair!

Do you REALLY want a baby at 41-42-ish?! Child still at school when you're 60?!!!! 😱

This!

Just nope, nope, fucking nope.

Whyjustwhy83 · 29/05/2026 22:25

I'm about to turn 43 and currently have a 8 week old and 2 year old. Crack on if you want more babies, I'm a overweight smoker.

NiftyGreenBiscuit · 29/05/2026 22:28

Is this a joke?

Groundhogday2025 · 29/05/2026 22:28

Yeah is this your way of asking if YABU to try to conceive at 40? Your post can read either that you think people don’t conceive after 40 so can you just not use contraception, or that you’ve got to 40 and want to try to conceive.

Either way it boils down to want a baby/not, not want a baby then don’t use contraception, but if you don’t want a baby then use something.

ETA: and no, plenty of people have babies at 40+ now. The average age of first time mums has gone up, and the average number of children has gone down, so it follows that more and more people are having their children later (if at all).

Kinekia · 29/05/2026 22:29

OP my mum conceived me within 2 months of trying at the age of 41

RealityChecksNeeded · 29/05/2026 22:29

Had my daughter 8 months ago, natural conception, perfect pregnancy, birth and recovery.

I'm 45, soon to be 46.

Lots of us have babies in our early 40s. What's with all the exclamation marks and horrified emojis?

Because who wants to be a geriatric mum? It’s not fair on the kids having parents so old.

TheThingOnTheIce · 29/05/2026 22:30

Rage bait .

WTF. I had one at 39. I’m not old!

PS I think you mean contraception 🫣

🤣 well that’s a Freudian slip if ever there was. You are going to get preggers OP!

sheisforrealatiger · 29/05/2026 22:33

I’m wondering if the Op was drunk

Edit as cross posted with Op. Does that mean you’re trying to conceive? Because if so, yes, you should probably stop using contraception…

Vickim03 · 29/05/2026 22:36

I’m with you…. I don’t want more but I don’t want to continue putting hormones into my body. I don’t want to risk the other side effects from hormonal contraception taking it long term. I’ve also stopped. Marriage isn’t the best so not worried about any accidents…. Just didn’t feel the need if we were using the most effective method (not doing it anyway!)

TheCurious0range · 29/05/2026 22:38

DH has cousins old enough to be his aunts/uncles FIL was a baby his mother thought was the menopause.

NameChangeMay2026 · 29/05/2026 22:40

Omg, you are 39. Absolutely NOT too old to conceive!!!

Rumplestiltz · 29/05/2026 22:41

Weird no one has mentioned that if she were to get pregnant (increasingly unlikely at 40) she could have an abortion? It doesn’t need to result in a baby.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 29/05/2026 22:43

Interesting title.

Seriously? I doubt many people decide to stop contraception with the idea that they'll just have an abortion if they get pregnant.

My Uncle is young enough to be my brother. As my Gran thought she was going through the menopause.

My Dad and his brother never lived in the same house as a result, they get on really well though and are so much alike.

I’m 41, pregnant and thrilled about it.

Pretty sure this thread is just random rage bait though.

Same, I was 42 eoth my first

nutbrownhare15 · 29/05/2026 22:46

So you want to have another child then?

NameChangeMay2026 · 29/05/2026 22:48

MyArtfulGreySloth · 29/05/2026 22:30

Because who wants to be a geriatric mum? It’s not fair on the kids having parents so old.

The average age of death is somewhere in the early eighties, so it's likely that any kids of parents reproducing around 40 will have their parents into their forties. That's as much as anyone could ever hope for.

Plus there are definite benefits to having older parents. More time, money, and patience.
