I’m 40 in late July and have been talking about with dh not using condoms or any other form of conception anymore

OP posts:

So you are planning to have more children.

Rituelec · 29/05/2026 19:23

If you still have periods then you are probably still fertile.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/05/2026 19:24

Ahh enjoy your middle age babies!

Imthefunfriend · 29/05/2026 19:24

I’m not sure that’s a good idea OP unless you would be ok with a pregnancy.

Meridas · 29/05/2026 19:24

Are you trying to get pregnant?

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 29/05/2026 19:24

I have two brothers born when my mother was 40 and 42.

Imthefunfriend · 29/05/2026 19:24

PS I think you mean contraception 🫣

Sparrowsandbudgies · 29/05/2026 19:25

Unless you 💯 know you’ve gone through menopause (which would be unusual at your age) you’d be an idiot.

Strawberrydelight78 · 29/05/2026 19:25

You mean contraception? Conception means to conceive a child. You can still get pregnant past 40.

OhGoshNotAgain · 29/05/2026 19:25

Goodness. Given you don’t know the difference between conception and contraception, I don’t think it’s a good idea.

If this is genuine - surely you look at the world around you and see lots of women in their early 40s having babies? You understand that you’re able to get pregnant until you reach menopause? There isn’t a magic switch that turns when you’re 40 and stops you being fertile.

TruJay · 29/05/2026 19:25

I’m guessing you mean contraception?
So you mean because you want a baby? Or you think you’re old enough at 40 that you won’t get pregnant even without using protection because that is absolutely still a possibility at 40. People are choosing to start their families in their 40s, it’s definitely not a ‘safe zone’.

SunSparkle · 29/05/2026 19:25

Enjoy your twins at 44

TotalBaloney · 29/05/2026 19:26

If you want more kids, then no you’re definitely NBU.

Hankunamatata · 29/05/2026 19:26

Its up to you. Just same risk of getting pregnant as before 40

SleepingStandingUp · 29/05/2026 19:26

Well its surely up to you of you want to have a baby? Plenty of women have babies at this age. Good luck!

Sidge · 29/05/2026 19:26

You may not know this, but contraception is recommended up to age 55. Or for a year after your last natural period if you’re over 50, and 2 years if you’re under 50.

Zov · 29/05/2026 19:26

I would NEVER risk it at 40! 😱 The chance of getting pregnant then is much slimmer than at when you're under 30, but the chances are fair!

Do you REALLY want a baby at 41-42-ish?! Child still at school when you're 60?!!!! 😱

smallglassbottle · 29/05/2026 19:27

Ha ha, I got pregnant accidentally at 40, it wasn't even a full effort. It didn't stick, but I soon learned my lesson.

Perrygreen · 29/05/2026 19:27

Enjoy the night wake ups in 18 months time.

AffableApple · 29/05/2026 19:28

SunSparkle · 29/05/2026 19:25

Ha! Came here to say the same. Maybe triplets - depending on how hard perimenopause-related hyper-ovulation has got you.

AntiHop · 29/05/2026 19:28

I had dd2 (deliberately) at 43.

CamillaMcCauley · 29/05/2026 19:28

Is your DH a doctor with a specialization in women’s reproductive health? If not, maybe seek a professional opinion.

WallaceinAnderland · 29/05/2026 19:29

Why 40?

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/05/2026 19:30

I conceived DC2 first cycle at 39.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/05/2026 19:34

You might want to google that or talk to your practice nurse……
