To think people that don’t round up ages are odd

Friend is 30 late July and is still saying he’s 29 when I was that close to my 30th I was just saying I was 30

OP posts:

Exactly - being able to say how old you are shouldn’t be that complicated 🤣

Well, we do tend to forget as we get older

AlloftheTime · 26/05/2026 22:56

Seriously? You must be bored.

Or jealous he’s younger

Studyunder · 27/05/2026 04:29

So if you live in house number 29, do you tell people your address is number 30?

Zanatdy · 27/05/2026 04:36

Not odd at all, you’re that age until your birthday.

DarkForces · 27/05/2026 04:39

Age is a data point rather than an estimate. Ive never heard anyone round up... down meanwhile. My mum's 21 again in her early 70s 😂

YoCharlie · 27/05/2026 04:45

My parents do this and I think it's loopy. They started saying they were 40 when they were 30 and they've tried this shit on me. They can piss off with it!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/05/2026 04:49

Weird. 🤷‍♀️

NoGarlic · 27/05/2026 05:07

busyd4y · 27/05/2026 03:50

So you mean date of birth? How would knowing their birthday help with working out their age?

I can't sleep because of the heat so pretty tired but I can't work that one out

I understand the brain fog - haven't slept for 24 hours now - but, really .... ... She subtracts their birth year from this year, takes one year off if it's not yet their birthday.

Is this so everybody raves about how young they look? 😂😂

BeanQuisine · 27/05/2026 05:13

So does it work the other way? For example if he turned 31 just a couple of months ago, he might as well keep rounding it off to 30.

Butchyrestingface · 27/05/2026 05:21

It’s OP who’s out of step imo. Rounding up ages is not only inaccurate but would cause confusion when the birthday for the age you’ve already claiming to be rolls around.

Out of curiosity, at what point is it you start claiming to be an age you’re not, @Sweetypie88 ? Is it immediately following the midway point - eg, when you’re 29 and six months? Is there a science to it?

YoCharlie · 27/05/2026 05:21

Maybe!! I never thought of it that way! Cheeky sods!

VivaMexicoVivaMrxico · 27/05/2026 05:22

my granny used to do something similar when she needed to emphasise her age - when she was 85, she was in her 86th year - we all used to laugh about it. My friend has started doing it - she’s b er ing saying she’s 70 since she was 68 - I worry about her embracing old age a bit too enthusiastically

HoppingPavlova · 27/05/2026 05:25

Nope, you are the odd one here🤣.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/05/2026 05:28

No, don’t think this is a thing, at least not in my experience. The only person who I have heard try to round up their age is my 4 year old

Robyn847 · 27/05/2026 06:05

I've never heard of anyone rounding up ages. Well not since Rebecca with the perm at primary school was telling boys at the roller rink she was 11 just to impress them. And you DO NOT want to be like Rebecca with the perm.

Kokonimater · 27/05/2026 06:10

I’m baffled.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 27/05/2026 07:14

I'm 50 at my next birthday and there is no way in hell I'm taking on being 50 until the real day. If you meet me at 11pm the night before I'll be still 49

No, they say, for instance, October 7th, and I know their exact age. 🙄

Obviously date of birth is what I meant. Have you considered air conditioning?

SquirrelGG · 27/05/2026 07:17

YABU. Until the day of your birthday you don't change your age, there is no "rounding up". You are the one who is out of step here.

MaCheCazzo · 27/05/2026 07:23

OP is complete nonsense. The heat does terrible things to the brain - especially if you're not starting with a full deck.

Londonrach1 · 27/05/2026 07:25

Yabu. You the strange one to lie about the age.

RustyBear · 27/05/2026 07:27

FiveShelties · 26/05/2026 22:55

No chance I will be 70 in August but now I AM 69.😂

So am I! Have you renewed your driving licence yet?😁

puddingwisdom · 27/05/2026 07:28

No- you are the odd one!

He's 29 - thats his literal age. It has to be like this otherwise where is the cut off point? once he turns 30, its only a year until he's 31 so should he start saying he's 31?- after all by then it will only be 11 short months until he's 31

Where does it end??

Doggymummar · 27/05/2026 07:30

I round up when I get over the 5, so I'm 57 and I've been saying nearly 60 since 55
