To think people that don’t round up ages are odd

In Germany it's bad luck to do this. It's thought of as tempting fate. It's also bad luck to wish someone happy birthday before their actual birthday, they say that if you do this the person might die before their birthday so it's incorrect to wish them a happy birthday in advance (or "round up" as you call it...)

German customs can be a little bit dark.

I've always found rounding up odd! If I'm turning 30 on a certain date, I'm 29 until that date.

I think it’s odd to round up once you are an adult as it’s the sort of thing that children do to make them sound older.

I’m sure I’ve read this before, so either OP is reposting something or there’s more than one of these odd people around.

Does anyone remember the poster who rounded up her kids ages? Like, in front of them? “She’s 8” about a 7 year old?

I have to ask people their age as part of my work. It is one of my biggest pet peeves when I ask, "what is your age, please?" And they respond, "I'll be 30 in July." If I had wanted to know your age in July, I would have asked, "what will your age be in July?"

Yes! I was thinking I had seen a thread about rounding up ages before.

They're saying their age. Why would you round up or down? If you're 29, you're 39, not 28 or 30.

When I get in a lift and want to go to level 6 I just press 10 because of rounding

This year I’ll be 70, DD will be 40, DGS will be 10. Until our birthdays we are 69, 39 and 9. You might like to lie about your age but I’m pretty sure most people tell the truth.

My husband turns 40 in 21 days and there is literally zero chance he’s going to start telling people he’s 40 before he actually is, because why the hell would he 😭 Nor am I going to start claiming I’m 37 a month early when I am objectively, measurably, legally 36 until June 26. WTF is wrong with you, literally nobody does this?!?

My age is my age until my birthday then it changes and not before
I know someone whose birthday is in September and once we get to Christmas she’ll add a year on it totally confuses me why anyone would do that plus I always think she’s another year older than she actually is ..it’s crazy

I speak with a lot of elderly people for my job, and often they can't remember their age. But they can usually remember their birthday. So I can do the math if they can tell me when their birthday is. 😁

This is like Chinese / Arab / Jewish ages (I can't be bothered to check) isn't it? They start counting from one, so the date 12 months after they were born is their 2nd birthday.

So you mean date of birth? How would knowing their birthday help with working out their age?

I can't sleep because of the heat so pretty tired but I can't work that one out
