Your friend isn’t odd at all. I have a friend who turns 31 in June, but right now she’s still 30. If she were filling out an official form today, she’d write 30, not 31.

Yeah, they’re really odd. I round up my door number too. I live at number 4 but I always say 5.

I stopped rounding mine down ten years.

I used to live in a country where this was the conventional way of describing age. There, I was the weird one for not rounding up!

But rounding up isn't the norm in the UK.

So someone asks his age, he says 30 and they ask what he did for his 30th, then he's got to confess he is 29 and you don't think that would be odd? You only round up for children.

Actually I do this (rounding up when it's a month or so off) but I don't think it's all that usual.

@Sweetypie88 your annoyance is weird, for someone going by their actual age & doing you absolutely no harm and how come you are hearing thus so often it's annoying you? I rarely hear adults giving their age.

I'd probably say 'nearly 30' , but when I was 29 I'd have said 29 because I really did NOT want to be 30!

I'm 57, I can't imagine a situation where I'd be giving my age that I'd say 60 before my 60th birthday.

though just typing that us a bit of a mind fuck. How the hell can I be nearly 60, I swear 5 minutes ago I was 30!!

It's DC2s birthday next month, but I am saying that they are almost 8yo. I'm not sure if I'd do that if they were adults though 🤔
