AIBU to be fed up with the heatwave panic?

I'm fully aware that ots of people are goign to tell me I am BU but my god, I am so tired of the trauma over this heatwave.

The endless facebook posts (and MN) about if someone dares to take a dog out in the heat - my local page had pictures of three dogs, looking pretty relaxed, albeit with their tongues hanging out, and a story about how she cornered the woman who had gone into the shop (to buy fags! [gasp]. If that's even true.) and then the woman was rude to her and basically 500 posts agreeing how awful those poor dogs must be finding things.

The people who can't leave the house because it's too hot.

The trauma about whether the kids should be allowed out because it's too hot for them.

Blah blah blah.

It's hot. Yes, it means you have to adjust a few things. Yes, you might not lke it. But it's not the end of the bloody world. I don't like the cold. But it doesn't cause me to be completely unable to do anything, go anywhere, or let my children do anything.

Brits dramatic about weather? No way 😅

🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 26/05/2026 20:04

it's almost like everyone should listen to the health advice and act according to their health, age, lifestyle and heat tolerance.

I still think someone is a cunt if they take their dog out in 34C heat though, even if you think your dog is 'fine' in those temps, there's just no need other than to BE a cunt... because we don't have this weather that often to know the dog is fine, and just because they were LAST summer, doesn't mean they are THIS summer, and is your dogs health and wellbeing worth the test?

BurnoutBee · 26/05/2026 20:09

I don’t go out because the heat would make me vomit. It’s fucking deeply unpleasant for me, roll on the fucking winter!!!!! And no I don’t complain about the winter…..

BurnoutBee · 26/05/2026 20:10

Someone said to me but it’s glorious

no not in my opinion. It’s HIDEOUS.

It’s really hard isn’t it. It shows the ignorance some people have about why some people really don’t enjoy these heatwaves. Then they always say they don’t mean people with health issues but there’s no way of knowing what health issues your neighbours or local community members have.

I have several disabilities that are exacerbated by heat but unless someone is a close family member, they’d never know. I don’t tell people until I know they’re not the type to minimise and call me dramatic etc.

Friday at a hobby club was saying she’s sick of all the anxious and panicking people complaining they’re too hot, “like Donna, not coming because it’s too hot” someone mentioned health issues and she was like “well yeah I don’t mean people with health issues, that’s a given” when the person she was just bitching about has health issues that are made worse during heat. Moany McGee said she didn’t know that, but once she did still came out “she should just whack factor 50 on and stay in the shade” 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

stupid bitch!!

if factor 50 helped health conditions ud be bathing in the bloody stuff.

sometimes, some people bring out the absolute worst in me & I could happily wish on them the medical issues that affect the person they're being like that about!

it could be them one day, my stroke happened out of the blue, literally overnight. I'm lucky in many ways I know that (I'm still cognitively ok, speach is ok, it could have been much worse! But it has changed my life, & future, beyond recognition.

being told to 'be quiet & make the most of the heatwave' (that's making me ill) just makes me realise how dense some people are.

The irony of the fact that you have compared the UK to the Third world is not lost on me rubber stamped by the fact that half my town have been without running water today

We had a message from our water company. Not to use any water except for cooking, drinking and 2 minute showers. 'Because everyone using the water is making their pipes run low on pressure & causing some people to be without water'.

nothing at all to do with huge bonuses & not much spent on maintaining the infrastructure then?

🤬

hope you don't lids your supply & the rest of your town gets theirs back soon!

My thoughts are with the little 5 year old. It's bad enough being affected by the heat with my medical condition but at least I can understand. I hope it cools down very soon for your little one ❤️💕

Exactly. It's shit, but at least we understand it's time limited & we're not 5. She should be out having teddies picnics in the shade & playing in her paddling pool, not lying on the couch feeling so ill, poor wee mite 💕

Sartre · 26/05/2026 20:24

It’s because our country isn’t designed for hot weather in the slightest and very few places have aircon, homes certainly don’t and insulation often traps the heat in which makes things worse. There’s nothing we can really do about this since it’s only hot for a month or two every year at best, just have to get on with it.

Chocolattcoffeecup · 26/05/2026 20:25

I haven't seen any panic do not sure what you're talking about and your thread isn't really about that either

MeltyMomenrs · 26/05/2026 20:31

Stelladid · 26/05/2026 19:51

Is it just me who thinks that those who post these sorts of questions which dismiss the needs and problems of others, do so just to be provocative? They must be very bored to need to do this.

youre right & it's probably better for me to just roll my eyes & not engage with the thread, but it's difficult not to at least try to educate them.

Poor kid i hope she feels better soon. Flowers
My one bedroom top floor social housing flat

  1. Fire door and window restrictors. No gaps allowed for the former and windows only open a couple of inches Health and safety rules have turned flats into even worse sweat boxes.
  2. The fridge freezer. It cant cope in these temps and conks out Im damn sure the eco warriors dont like the idea of wasted food either.
  3. Bowel issues. Made a lot worse in this weather.
  4. Food stored in cupboards including the hall cupboard has to be kept an eye on too. It cant all be stored in the fridge and it isnt meant to be.
  5. Medication that has to be stored above 5c but below 25c

Can’t you buy a portable air con unit and a mini fridge for the Medicines? They only seem to chill to about 5C anyway!

You could also get one of those foil rolls and tape up one room’s window so it’s cooler.

The BBC are giving out figures for deaths 'due to the heatwave' but don't mention that more people die of cold weather than hot. 9 x as many, statistically.

And of course those people who have medical problems that are worse in the heat need to take precautions, just as those do who have problems that are worse in the cold. Mostly they know this and the best way to deal with the heat or cold. But it's not as if they won't suffer if other people don't admit to enjoying the heat (or the cold) when it comes along.

What??

None of us with medical problems have asked others not to enjoy the nice weather if they can. Nor 'told them off for posting how much they're enjoying it'

However, being told to 'be quiet & make the most of it' is fucking rude & ridiculous.

& in the winter the BBC say about people dying in cold snaps.

I spent yesterday hiding thread after thread on here with people whinging on about the heat. These are the same people who come on here to ask if they should answer their own front doors.

I'm finding it too hot but I do answer my front door - if you want to add me to your stats on the issue.

Thanks Flowers wow the bare faced cheek of that message. Unreal!

Zov · 26/05/2026 20:45

100% agree @Iwanttobeafraser It's ludicrous. It's nearly summer, (just a few more days,) and it's hot. Hot weather shouldn't be 'breaking news' but it is! 🙄

So we have had the hottest May day since records began (today,) fabulous. It was 35C , not 50C. And the way the media bang on and on about 'the heatwave,' as if we have never had one before is batshit.

.

Gettingbysomehow · 26/05/2026 20:46

Its been pretty bloody awful here in the NHS mainly because of peoples damned stupidity in the hot weather. I needed an urgent ambulance for my patient today and I mean urgent. I work in an outlying clinic and had to wait 5 hours because they were all busy rescuing people off beaches. The burns unit is working overtime.

DoubleFunMum · 26/05/2026 19:55

I have 2 kids sick with heat stroke tonight after their school, in their wisdom, went ahead with sports day and left them standing out in the heat without shade, with a five minute break for 200 of them to refill their water bottles indoors, for 4 hours! Livid doesn't even cover it. In my opinion, some people need to pay a little more heed to the conditions!

That's awful, I hope it's cooling down a bit where you are & your kids are feeling a bit better.

its wreckless enough they went ahead with the sports day, but with so little provision it's neglect & id be writing a very strongly worded letter to the Board of Govenors ' ( or whatever you have)

JenniferBooth · 26/05/2026 20:48

@DoubleFunMum how stupid and reckless of the school No common sense shown there at all.

My dog went out at 7:00 this morning before it got to hot, he’s been in and out of the garden all day and knows how hot it is outside. He came to ask me at 3:00 to go out for a walk because he won’t toilet in our garden- so I took him. If that makes me a cunt so be it.

Zov · 26/05/2026 21:07

I'm sure @Credittocress that the majority of dogs are intelligent enough to know when it's too hot for them. You're not a c^nt! Smile

Scarlettjune · 26/05/2026 21:08

It is very hot though? I came to Paris for a few days. Omg I've never been as hot in my life
