AIBU to be fed up with the heatwave panic?

I'm fully aware that ots of people are goign to tell me I am BU but my god, I am so tired of the trauma over this heatwave.

The endless facebook posts (and MN) about if someone dares to take a dog out in the heat - my local page had pictures of three dogs, looking pretty relaxed, albeit with their tongues hanging out, and a story about how she cornered the woman who had gone into the shop (to buy fags! [gasp]. If that's even true.) and then the woman was rude to her and basically 500 posts agreeing how awful those poor dogs must be finding things.

The people who can't leave the house because it's too hot.

The trauma about whether the kids should be allowed out because it's too hot for them.

Blah blah blah.

It's hot. Yes, it means you have to adjust a few things. Yes, you might not lke it. But it's not the end of the bloody world. I don't like the cold. But it doesn't cause me to be completely unable to do anything, go anywhere, or let my children do anything.

And it's not all about you either. The majority of people don't have medical conditions that prevent them going out in the heat

I spent yesterday hiding thread after thread on here with people whinging on about the heat. These are the same people who come on here to ask if they should answer their own front doors.

oh yeah of course they are. Did you cross reference to get your evidence or are you just talking crap ?

People just need to be quiet and make the most of it. Whatever the weather someone is always complaining about it and im tired of it. This heatwave has been glorious and even though its been hot it's not forever, the temperature is going to come down in the next day or two. People have windows and fans , use them. Like the poster im loving it and making the most of it.

Thats great, those of us with conditions that are greatly affected by heat have very right to complain. I don't care if you are tired of it and who the hell are you saying I should keep quiet?

Thechaseison71 · 26/05/2026 18:58

I wonder what people would do if they lived in hotter countries.

Personally I'm loving it. For once all my joints ( knees ankles shoulder etc) don't hurt. Once it gets over about 27 degrees I'm much more comfortable and mobile

But if I started moaning about stiffness and chest at 20 degrees id probably be shut down

Notmyreality · 26/05/2026 18:59

My god the endless posts about not walking dogs.
Ok Yes we get it!
(Leaves to walk dog)

Brits dramatic about weather? No way 😅

The whole thing about dogs and heat drives me insane. It's the same every year and the vitriol is unbelievable.

Some dogs cope much better with the heat than others. Some dogs are rescued from countries that are much hotter. Unless you see a dog clearly in distress, stay out of it.

Totally agree.

The official advice is anything between 25-30 is dangerous for any dog of any age and breed and walks should only happen before 8am or after sunset, and 30+ is severe risk of heat stroke which can very easily kill. Why intentionally put an animals in harms way? As family we're meant to protect them. Not to mention just the pure discomfort of being in such heat in a fur coat with no shade or water. Would you do that to yourself?

That's why theres "vitriol" - it's people looking out for a defenceless animal when their own family is too selfish to. If people would follow the advice they wouldnt get others commenting. Same people who take dog out in 30 degree heat are nowhere to be seen in torrential rain. Funny that.

Hmm I wonder how the soi dogs in Bangkok survive then

This!

I just went out to bring the washing in & almost passed out, my neighbour saw me & came to help.

since my stroke I just can't tolerate the heat, but you know a few little adjustments & itll be fine 🙄🙄🙇🏻‍♀️

before the stroke i lived this weather. It's no fucking fun not being able to tolerate it any more, I'm very sad about it, just another thing to add to the list if many things I can't do or tolerate anymore 😢

OP's like this one just making things so much better. NOT.

It’s really hard isn’t it. It shows the ignorance some people have about why some people really don’t enjoy these heatwaves. Then they always say they don’t mean people with health issues but there’s no way of knowing what health issues your neighbours or local community members have.

I have several disabilities that are exacerbated by heat but unless someone is a close family member, they’d never know. I don’t tell people until I know they’re not the type to minimise and call me dramatic etc.

Friday at a hobby club was saying she’s sick of all the anxious and panicking people complaining they’re too hot, “like Donna, not coming because it’s too hot” someone mentioned health issues and she was like “well yeah I don’t mean people with health issues, that’s a given” when the person she was just bitching about has health issues that are made worse during heat. Moany McGee said she didn’t know that, but once she did still came out “she should just whack factor 50 on and stay in the shade” 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Their buildings are made for it Ours arent Cant believe ive had to point that out

I'm with you OP. I've had a supplier cancel a meeting today because of the heat. I don't understand the fuss.

It's a bit warm. It is managed easily by drinking plenty of water and dressing appropriately. Take things slowly, don't rush, carry on as normal.

I ran a charity 10k yesterday. Not fast but I still ran it. It was certainly warm but nothing to panic about.

Im mot panicking, my body cannnot 'carry on as normal '

when you have a serious medical event/condition, that changes your body and your whole fucking life, get back to me again to tell me how easy it is. Or to the 5 year old who is very ill due to her life long heath issue being made much worse by the heat.

Seriously Like where. Do you think a wooden shacked with a metal corrugated roof is conductive to coolness?

JustAnUdea · 26/05/2026 18:05

I wish tge panic, on the lead up, was about water safety. 4 different incidents over the weejend acrosd England.

Yes, I just read 4 teenagers died (separate incidents) over the weekend in 'water based' incidents 😭

Cosimarocks · 26/05/2026 19:08

It’s not the end of the world…

I mean, it sort of is. Seeing as this heatwave is one of many we are having and will continue to have, alongside other extreme weather conditions going forwards as part of the climate crisis, I suppose it rather depends upon whether you have any care for your own, you children’s and your grandchildren’s future. I do, and I find the knowledge or what’s to come and our inaction in tackling it completely terrifying. Ultimately, it will lead to sea level rises, a loss of biodiversity, food shortages, water shortages, and ultimately billions of deaths and a pretty awful existence for those that remain.

In the shorter term (now) it means a rise in skin cancer dangers and heat exhaustion, failing crops (as did the extraordinary amount of rain earlier), increased wildfires and dangerous heat for children and the elderly in particular. It means that our houses and offices and schools and hospitals and care homes and transport are hideously over hot and humid. It means that pets and farm animals and wildlife are at risk.

It’s about 10 c hotter here (UK) than it should be, it’s 45c in India (which is close to too hot for the human body to function).

What really pisses me off is that in a few days time when it drops to 20 or so (lovely!) and possibly rain comes, people will moan that the summer has gone already (its actually spring still, but hey).

But you crack on and enjoy it. Or, get some education, learn about your world and also learn some common decency and stop moaning about those who are worried or struggle in the heat.

”Their” buildings aren’t made for it at all. They are regular houses with AC. That’s it. We all just need to get AC.

The irony of the fact that you have compared the UK to the Third world is not lost on me rubber stamped by the fact that half my town have been without running water today

Tshirtking · 26/05/2026 19:11

My thoughts are with the little 5 year old. It's bad enough being affected by the heat with my medical condition but at least I can understand. I hope it cools down very soon for your little one ❤️💕

But the people all do live in houses. It was a reply saying houses are built for coolness in other countries. Not necessarily the case.

Loads of people live in places like the picture worldwide

MauriceTheMussel · 26/05/2026 19:16

I too can’t do the heat - my feet will puff up within maybe 10 minutes of sitting outside to the point that it’s painful to walk (and I do a A LOT of cardio and weights. I’m an in shape person). So I live in a house with air conditioning and I don’t fucking leave it on days like today.

Some of us just aren’t built a certain way

Anyahyacinth · 26/05/2026 19:19

So caring for animals is a NO?

For children who can't regulate their temperatures as adults can... also a NO?

Caring about the impact on health, 300 + excess deaths as a result of heat, the pressure on the NHS also irrelevant?

People doing physical jobs in the sun and or heat being harmed now and long term ...not your concern?

Water shortages and failed crops ...not your problem? Do you have your own utilities, a generator and fuel? The stress on our infrastructure is being exaggerated by these heatwaves...but you live above all that OP?

Right right ☀️
