Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

“Darling, I love these new Le Creuset pans. I’ll cook something in them after I’ve had a delicious coffee from the shiny new bean to cup machine you brought home the other day”. Plausible deniability? Errr, nope.

Feis123 · 25/05/2026 22:36

They are such shits, the SNP, all of them. Each year I visit my relatives in Darnley, and my heart is broken, for what these SNP shits are doing to Scotland.

Spanglemum02 · 25/05/2026 22:37

It was over 10 to 12 years. Some of the purchases were strange. Made us wonder if he had some sort of shopping addiction.

Going to go against the grain here and say I wouldn't know if DH had £400k stashed in his own account. Obviously I'd notice the motor home, but I am assuming he had a large salary of his own and if he wanted to splash out, he could do it without suspicion.

Are you basically in charge of the organisation he works for though?

Yeah, I’d agree with this. Also, it wasn’t £400k stashed, it was £400k spent, and the majority of that on the car and motor home. So £200k spent over 10ish years. About £1,500 per month.

I have read plenty of MN threads where a DH (or an OP) has racked up e.g. £15-20k of credit card debt within a year, without the spouse noticing the goods the money has been spent on.

Yes but think about the hand cream. Could your husband be fraudulently obtaining softer hands on the public purse?

Softer hands on the public purse, brings to mind some dubious images 😅

NiftyGreenBiscuit · 25/05/2026 22:45

I believe she didn’t know. She is certainly not the first woman to have the wool pulled over her eyes by a man.

AInightingale · 25/05/2026 22:45

How do we know their marriage wasn't a total sham for the sake of her political career? Isn't she now living with a woman? They may have been leading entirely separate lives.

YANBU! What I don't buy is why the SNP keep being voted in!

Ignoring the domestic stuff, around which I’m sure there’s enough plausible deniability to make it hard to press charges, what about at a party level? She was the Leader of the SNP; did it not occur to her to wonder why the auditors resigned? And when they did, perhaps ask a few questions. Carry out an internal review? What about governance? Who was signing of his credit card expenses? I think it’s reasonable to expect even an averagely competent party leader to have been asking those sorts of questions for years…

Absolutely this!

husband and wife with separate finances can be explained away but as leader of the party he was embezzling money from she should have had some questions around expenses etc.

That was the rumour. A lavender marriage and she has a relationship with a woman in London. apparently a biological one

Yeah but she doesn’t know what a woman is. Strange.

We ran up a massive credit card debt in our first years of marriage I'd be embarrassed to say how much. We were young and stupid. But we actually had very little to show for it, no fast cars or luxury holidays, it's surprising how easy it is to do. But it was a joint effort, unlike Nicola's hubby.

What a load of bollocks.
Of course she knew.

I don't know though.

As Nicola is unable to recognise that a pair of bollocks only hang off a man, I can quite believe that she thought the £100,000 camper van was a tent costing £10.

Because sometimes it is very hard to tell the difference between a man and a woman and a camper van and a tent.

These things are not straightforward and anyone can become confused.

Interesting! If she IS lesbian (or maybe bi?) then that would mean back when Kezia Dugdale and Ruth Davidson were party leaders, all 3 of the major parties were led by lesbians.

Which begs the question- why have a Lavender marriage when Kezia & Ruth didn't need them? Surely SNP voters aren't more socially conservative than Tory and Labour?

Agree with this. They did have seperate bank accounts, I presume he earnt a big salary and she was probably not that interested in his fountain pen or salt and pepper pots to find out how much they cost. I think over 10 years he could have easily explain most of those smaller purchases. And I say all that as someone who absolutely detests NS her total abandonment of women’s rights.

PurpleSky300 · 25/05/2026 22:52

Either Sturgeon is lying and knew all along, or she spent 10+ years being lied to and her entire marriage was a fraudulent scam as well. There's no good outcome. As for him... to ruin your life and career for the sake of coffee machines, robot lawnmowers, cars and other humdrum, dull middle-class clutter is unfathomable. He was buying sheer crap for the sake of it, stuff he could have afforded through legitimate means. Just why?
