Not at all, I’m saying that the right wing are exploiting people’s (correctly felt) abhorrence of such crimes, for their own ends. They don’t give a shit about women and girls. Look at Reform’s proposed policies and the impact they would have on women generally but also victims of such crimes. Repealing the Human Rights’ Act? No one who cares about victims or understands the law would do that. It’s just a bandwagon to jump on to frame their racist agenda as one of concern for these women’s plight. And as someone who has spent my life working with victim-survivors of these crimes, it’s genuinely depressing to see how many women have swallowed their lies.

Funnily enough, I think people who take this horrendous case and turn it into a discussion about refugees are the unforgivable ones. As I said earlier, I work with victims of these crimes. I gave up my lucrative career as a solicitor to do so, because I feel so strongly about it. But I am sure you are doing loads to help these women and girls, and not just posting shit on MN…

Nations that respect the rule of law, including the UK, can't just 'send them back to Afghanistsn' or anywhere else without an extradition treaty and without respecting the ECHR. If Reform end up forming the next government, any laws that don't allow Reform to respond positively to the siren call of its populist agenda will be trodden underfoot, just as they are in the US now. If you're shouting 'deport! deport!', be careful what you wish for.
