Booked hairdresser for 2pm for a full head of colour (dark brown/black) and a cut and blow dry. I realised at half 12, she’d emailed me at 11am asking if I could come in any earlier. I emailed back and said earliest I could go in was 1, which she said was fine. I’ve been to her before and she’s always been fine.

Get there and she’s incredibly short with me. Seems pissed off that I didn’t come in earlier and she’s been “waiting around all morning” even though I booked a 2pm appointment. Doesn’t offer a tea or coffee or anything and slaps on the colour. Leaves it for 25 minutes, then starts saying she may not have time now to do a full blow dry as she’s busy but could blast it with the hairdryer. I’m annoyed and sense tension but say fine. She then proceeds as she’s washing it to say actually she may not have time at all, and as I’m only going home after can only towel dry it. We weren’t even at my original appointment time yet.

She then cuts it quickly, just the ends and not my usual layers and when I mention it again she says about time. Things are getting tense and I’m getting tearful. (7 months pregnant too). She then wraps my hair in a paper towel and says that I’m finished and I look at her gone out.

She says sorry needs the chair back for next client. I say fine whatever, get up and leave. Issue is I’ve booked through Fresha and they’ve taken the full amount from my card. I emailed the salon once I’ve got out and processed everything and they’re point blank refusing a refund even though I got barely a cut and absolutely no blow dry.

i won’t be going there again but can/would you request a bank charge back? Paid by debit card and it was £85😭 im so upset, money is tight anyway and this was suppose to be a birthday treat.

She did get the colour, but not the blow-dry, and only a glancing cut, which is much less thorough than she usually has.

Edited

The colour she said she wasn’t sure if it was left on enough. She did not get the layered cut she wanted, nor the blow dry.

I agree with other respondent, send an email explaining factually what happened and then how you were made to feel...

Did you take any photos when you left/were left? I would add that to the email.

See how they respond and give them 24 hours to respond. Maybe something terrible was going on in the background of the hairdressers life. I would take my decision based on their response

It’s never been like that before nor has she so I think I was a bit bewildered and confused to start with and things kept changing, one minute it was I’ll blow dry it and then it was, I can’t but will blast quick with the hairdryer and then it was ah I’ll just towel dry it. As soon as I was in the seat she did the quickest cut and then was unhooking my over cover thing and telling me she needed the chair.

I was barely there 40 minutes and 25 of that I’d say was hair developing (not really long enough), 5 minutes of hair washing and then 15 minutes of absolute weirdness. I’m also quite tearful at the moment, tired and it wasn’t really until I suddenly sat in my car with wet hair I thought what the hell just happened?!

That's very odd !
I'm a stylist and if I had asked a client to change times and they couldn't that is not their fault !!
I wouldn't do this anyway I find it very unprofessional people have other commitments and they book their appointments to the own timetable !
I would imagine if she rents a chair she had a cancellation in the morning and tried to get u in super early then rebooked her afternoon appointments so she wasn't losing any money that day because u couldn't do what she had planned she took that out on you I find that appalling and I would ring your bank and get that payment back however u do it ! Then I would let her know why I did it !

RumPidgeon · 22/05/2026 09:04

How awful and a disgusting way to treat any client. I’d advise a charge back and would also leave a review to warn others off her „services“.

Takemytimeandhurryup · 22/05/2026 09:08

Did you pay through Fresha? I've never used it so I know you booked with them but did they take the payment?

bittertwisted · 22/05/2026 09:11

Sensiblesal · 22/05/2026 01:00

You are asking mumsnet if you should commit fraud.

no you should not charge back.

being unhappy with what you paid for is not a reason to juat do a charge back.

actually ridiculous

I worked for 5 years designing fraud and dispute systems
this a service not received dispute
even if visa or Mastercard reject the dispute she is not committing fraud because she acts in good faith, attempted to resolve and has evidence

please return to tell me where the fraud is

Droplet789 · 22/05/2026 09:13

If she rents a chair the refund will have to come
from her. Did you take pictures when you left the salon? I’d email the hairdresser individually and ask her to refund and email
fresha. If that doesn’t work I’d do a charge back as you don’t get the service you paid for.

if you leave reviews personally name her as she only rents a chair she will just move and the bad review stays with the salon

Daftypants · 22/05/2026 09:13

I don’t use Fresha app to book my hair appointment but I do use it for the salon that waxes my brows since it’s a very small sum of money .
Your hairdresser has behaved really unprofessionally.
I have had phone calls from mine , never email or text , to ask if I can come later or earlier.
They never change the appointment time without actually speaking to me .
And sometimes what they’ll do ,if it’s busier than they anticipated, is mix and apply colour then the junior takes over washing etc , then hairdresser will do the full cut and junior will blow dry .
Then I am charged less .
id do a chargeback on your card and find another hairdresser

bittertwisted · 22/05/2026 09:13

Witchonenowbob · 22/05/2026 06:23

Fraud 😆😆😆😆

being unhappy with what you paid for
so if you ordered boots and got sandals just suck it up, because it would be fraud to dispute the transaction
🫠🫠😂🫠
course that’s how it works

Your interpretation is what's ridiculous. She didn't receive the service she paid for, so a chargeback is appropriate.

I’d email again and say you are going to post an online review today, but just wanted to give the stylist one last chance to do the right thing before you do.

£85 for colour, cut and dry is insanely good value!

It would have been good value if she'd actually got the colour, cut and blow dry she asked for. But she didn't. She got a very half-arsed dye job because the colour wasn't left on long enough, a quick trim of the ends instead of a proper layered cut, and no drying at all.

Paganpentacle · 22/05/2026 11:45

Laura95167 · 20/05/2026 15:55

Yes I would. And after I got my money I would write a review

Ditto.

I would not do a chargeback, even if it is possible. You are voting with your feet. Maybe contact trading standards as you have not had the service you paid for.

Why would you not do a chargeback? 🤔

Toooldtocare25 · 22/05/2026 12:32

That’s absolutely shocking service must definitely do a charge back

vickylou78 · 22/05/2026 12:57

I'd send one more email asking for refund of a percentage for the hair cut and blow dry and then if she doesn't I'd take next steps.

You've been treated badly.

But Op needs to go elsewhere, pay full price for everything again! I’d want 100% back!

Muffinmam · 22/05/2026 15:38

Charge back immediately!!!

She ripped you off!!

No. She’s already attempted to resolve. The salon has knowingly defrauded her. She needs to charge back immediately.

Oh I thought the colour was ok? If not yes you'd want full refund. But it may be good to compromise and ask for 70% back maybe? As more likely to succeed?
Terrible customer service thought isn't it. I can see why a full refund would be justified too.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 22/05/2026 18:00

DJKATIE · 20/05/2026 16:46

Absolutely do a charge back, you have not received the service you have paid for, after the charge back is finalised (untill it can not be disputed ) you could offer to pay for what you did received ie, just the cost of the colour. Also please leave a review so others can avoid this very unprofessional hairdresser.

Absolutely do a 'chargeback' That was shoddy service. She pretty much told you what was happening.
I agree with the others! Make sure you leave a negative review.

No, charge back will give 100%

Pinkflamingo10 · 22/05/2026 23:02

This is awful ! Write them an absolutely terrible google review.
I would also call in or phone salon manager and explain that you require a refund for services not rendered.
