Booked hairdresser for 2pm for a full head of colour (dark brown/black) and a cut and blow dry. I realised at half 12, she’d emailed me at 11am asking if I could come in any earlier. I emailed back and said earliest I could go in was 1, which she said was fine. I’ve been to her before and she’s always been fine.

Get there and she’s incredibly short with me. Seems pissed off that I didn’t come in earlier and she’s been “waiting around all morning” even though I booked a 2pm appointment. Doesn’t offer a tea or coffee or anything and slaps on the colour. Leaves it for 25 minutes, then starts saying she may not have time now to do a full blow dry as she’s busy but could blast it with the hairdryer. I’m annoyed and sense tension but say fine. She then proceeds as she’s washing it to say actually she may not have time at all, and as I’m only going home after can only towel dry it. We weren’t even at my original appointment time yet.

She then cuts it quickly, just the ends and not my usual layers and when I mention it again she says about time. Things are getting tense and I’m getting tearful. (7 months pregnant too). She then wraps my hair in a paper towel and says that I’m finished and I look at her gone out.

She says sorry needs the chair back for next client. I say fine whatever, get up and leave. Issue is I’ve booked through Fresha and they’ve taken the full amount from my card. I emailed the salon once I’ve got out and processed everything and they’re point blank refusing a refund even though I got barely a cut and absolutely no blow dry.

i won’t be going there again but can/would you request a bank charge back? Paid by debit card and it was £85😭 im so upset, money is tight anyway and this was suppose to be a birthday treat.

I'm a lawyer and even I don't necessarily complain when someone is wafting scissors or chemicals around my hair. It can be very awkward in a salon!

Blanketpolicy · 20/05/2026 17:05

Make sure to leave reviews (everywhere possible including all local facebook pages - be factual and accurate) also saying the salon is also not interested in any issues with stylists operating on their premises so there is nowhere to go for any dispute resolution and as you pay via the app there is no way to recover payment for a service you did not receive other than possibly small claims court.

GinaandGin · 20/05/2026 17:07

Oh what am awful experience. So sorry that happened

Exactly. By the time you realise how bad things are, you have half a head of colour or dripping wet hair and it's difficult to know how to extricate yourself from the situation. The OP did also say that she is 7 months pregnant and probably more emotional than usual.

Got an email back from the salon owner to say that as she rents a chair, it’s at her discretion to refund and on this occasion she won’t. That they don’t handle payments etc and it goes to each person who rents a chair. Such a nightmare.

Id email them and thank them for letting you know and to look out for your SALON reviews.

Then post everywhere about your awful experience. But stick to facts.

igelkott2026 · 20/05/2026 17:30

And this is why you shouldn't have to pay in advance.

Good luck with the chargeback OP.

Velumental · 20/05/2026 17:33

Do the charge back 100%, I know people are saying why did you accept it but pregnant, caught off guard, etc I can see why you couldn't process at the time

Nn9011 · 20/05/2026 17:36

Tidalwaver · 20/05/2026 16:34

I’ve been researching and think that’s right. They take payment on behalf but can’t refund it and have no dispute service! Seems dodgy but true 😰

This doesn't matter, go through your bank and state that it's serviced not as described. Even though fresha take the payment, they have a responsibility to ensure it is taken accurately. 3rd party merchants can still be disputed.
Make sure you are factual - it was 85 for these services xyz, you only got services ABC and they were not to standard as expected. You contacted and they refused a refund.

Indeed and that's without being 7 months pregnant. It's very easy for someone to say they wouldn't stand for that behaviour when they are not the one in the situation.

Killieween · 20/05/2026 17:46

You still dispute it to your own card provider and they will do the rest, the person who receives the money will get notification and have to respond within a certain number of days before you get the refund! I absolutely would as that is awful customer service and the fact she didn’t seem to care I would hit her where it’s hard, the pocket! I could be wrong but I am sure you can ask for partial refund so possibly just the cut/blow dry elements! It’s so bad she didn’t dry it so obviously not checked the cut she did do is even!

teawamutu · 20/05/2026 17:51

Concurring with the 'chargeback and shitty reviews' school of thought.

historyismything82 · 20/05/2026 17:57

Deffo chargeback, OP. They have behaved appallingly. Horrible way to treat a customer.

Delphiniumandlupins · 20/05/2026 18:04

Presumably OP didn't realise that she was going to receive such shoddy service until she received it. She wouldn't know if colour has taken properly until her hair is dry. She didn't know they were going to inadequately cut her hair and rush her out with wet hair, even if the stylist was muttering about time.

I would absolutely charge back, and maybe pay something for the colour if that is OK. Although, their refusal to consider a refund might make me less generous.

💯 % chargeback Sorry OP 💐

Tidalwaver · 20/05/2026 18:41

It’s never been like that before nor has she so I think I was a bit bewildered and confused to start with and things kept changing, one minute it was I’ll blow dry it and then it was, I can’t but will blast quick with the hairdryer and then it was ah I’ll just towel dry it. As soon as I was in the seat she did the quickest cut and then was unhooking my over cover thing and telling me she needed the chair.

I was barely there 40 minutes and 25 of that I’d say was hair developing (not really long enough), 5 minutes of hair washing and then 15 minutes of absolute weirdness. I’m also quite tearful at the moment, tired and it wasn’t really until I suddenly sat in my car with wet hair I thought what the hell just happened?!

I would still raise an issue with your card provider. You paid for a service you didn’t receive

Ileithyia · 20/05/2026 18:51

So, she double booked herself, asked you to come in earlier by email (instead of a phone call) and then provides you with barely half the service you’ve paid for. I’m assuming the booking on Fresha details what you booked, and you can also use the emails as proof she altered the booking, not you? If she hasn’t provided you with the service you booked and paid for, isn’t this breach of contract and something Trading Standards could help you with?

GinandGingerBeer · 20/05/2026 18:51

Definitely do a charge back. It’s really easy to do and it was really quick when I did one recently. Sorry you had to go through that. She should have just cancelled and apologised if she’d cocked up and over booked herself.

MummyWillow1 · 20/05/2026 19:46

You will need to provide proof to the bank that you have tried to resolve the issue with the service provider so make sure your emails are factual and objective.

State what would be a reasonable resolution (eg 50% refund given she did do the colour) and then you can send all the evidence to the bank.

Pumpkintopf · 20/05/2026 20:02

Appalling service! How is your hair?

How did you pay for it - through Fresha with your cc? Revolut? You request the charge back through them x (your bank)

AngelaBB · 20/05/2026 20:16

Give her a poor review and maybe mention what’s happened in a Facebook post. It’s really not good enough.

momager22 · 20/05/2026 20:16

I’d be leaving reviews all over Fresha and Google, naming the stylist

Friendlygingercat · 20/05/2026 20:42

Im assuming Fresha operate as a payment processor similar to Paypal and Stripe whereby customers can use a variety of payment methods. OP has done her best to resolve the matter with the supplier and now has proof in the form of emails that she did so. The next logical step is a complaint to the card provider whereby she only recieved a part of the service she was charged for. I would then leave negative but factual reviews, keeping emotions out of it.

paddleboardingmum · 20/05/2026 21:05

That's shocking treatment OP and wasn't the treat you wanted or deserved. YANBU. I hope you get the money back and can do something nice with it just for you.
