Is Andy Burnham reasonable to say only a small minority of women object to men being in their toilets? YABU he's right, YANBU he's wrong *titled tweaked by MNHQ at OP's request*

'I don't think that's a majority view. I think it's a minority view and quite a small minority view, actually. But it is a view so you can't completely ignore it. Possibly they might be women who have experienced male violence at some point in their life. I don't know, that's one way of looking at it.'

Andy Burnham backs men who identify as female using women's toilets

The Greater Manchester mayor said the idea that single sex spaces like toilets should be protected for biological women was a 'minority view'.

What is their game... how has the TG Lobby got them all by the balls?

It doesn't matter if most women think its fine, it matters because of the risk to women which is the fucking reason we have separate spaces to remove our clothes in the first place.

What a spineless waste of oxygen.

endofthelinefinally · 20/05/2026 10:33

He sounds exactly like a man I tried to inform about men in women's prisons. His view was that women get raped anyway so why the fuss...

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 20/05/2026 09:47

Why is a man explaining what women apparently think?

Exactly, Andy Burnham does not speak for the vast majority of women. I don't know how he dares say he does 🤣

Ansjovis · 20/05/2026 10:36

I think some women either don't understand the question (I once thought that the only male born persons using the female toilets would have had full sex reassignment surgery and GRC) or they've swallowed the "we just want to pee in peace" narrative (this may be the case for some people but by no means all - there are some who want anything but peace!)

loislovesstewie · 20/05/2026 10:36

I'm one of the 'small', in other words big majority that is fed up with a man telling me what I should do, or say or think or accept. And I would be happy to tell him to his face.

Reasonable/correct or not, so what? It’s irrelevant. It could be only one woman, and she’d still be entitled to single sex safe spaces even if every other woman alive didn’t give a toss.
And in any case, by his logic, it’s only a minority of men who wear dresses and want to infiltrate women’s single sex spaces, so they can STFU and use the men’s, surely 🤷‍♀️.
Or is it only the women who have to move over in Andy’s world?

bigboykitty · 20/05/2026 10:37

A very vocal minority of women support men being in women's spaces. The majority don't want them there, but most won't say that openly because 'transphobia...they literally want trans people to die' etc.

Carlie97 · 20/05/2026 10:38

Another fucking man stating what women think. I used to like him. Now I think he's an utterly twat. When will men stop telling everyone else what women's views and preferences are? I despair.

Just changed my vote!

LeftieRightsHoarder · 20/05/2026 10:39

It’s very disappointing when Burnham has been so bigged up as a Labour politician worth voting for. I thought I’d soon be voting for a Labour Party led by him.

Labour men have never been passionate about women’s rights (in my long experience), but I was stunned when most of them flocked to support the mysogynistic genderist movement.

Along with many of my friends I stopped voting Labour, we thought temporarily, because of its failure to protect women’s rights. Doesn’t look as if Labour will regain our votes any time soon.

No, but even if he were, it's not a reason to allow it. Some women object and these spaces are supposed to be for women, so they need to be that. Women who are desperate to share toilets with men can help them campaign for additional mixed sex spaces so everyone can have an option that suits them. We don't remove options, we add them.

Northermcharn · 20/05/2026 10:40

Dinotruxagain · 20/05/2026 10:27

I really don't see how they don't get that its not about " Just men dressed as women using the female toilets!"

If someone, anyone could clarify HOW exactly we are supposed to tell the difference between John who is now Jane and generally just wants to go about their lives " presenting as female" and Steve who is pretending to be Sarah who is using this loop hole and the ability to scream "Transphobia" to be able to access woman's spaces for kink/ assault/ nefarious reasons.

They don't come with fecking lables attached!

I am NOT transphobic, I dont actually care how you want to present yourself, however, no one and that includes John who has all the surgeries and now presents as Jane, should be accessing woman's spaces unless they are natal woman.
So count me in that ' small minority too.

This absolute bloody nonsense is why Im still politically homeless. 😢

The most depressing thing is, I think they mostly do get it. It's wilful ignorance for political and / or performative gain. The far left are the new fascists - trying to shut down anyone who doesn't comply with their e.g. gender wang mind control crap.

JHound · 20/05/2026 10:41

I am not sure it’s a minority view. I think survey data suggests otherwise.

But I am also not sure it’s most women’s top concern.

As a male, and honestly someone who has come to this party quite late, basically after having a daughter, I am convinced the left has a huge, huge female issue. The unions don't seem to think females are full worth people, there's like an exchange rate of 0.6 males for every one female

It's endemic, mens rights are always, always ahead of women

The women who go along with it confuse me even more I cannot fathom. How rhetorical hell we got to this mess I don't know but I am certain we are on our way back out and there is no way for women to ultimately loose (in the UK) but it is going to take another ten years to kill it dead at least.

In general, I think men like to think only a small minority of women have experienced violence or sexual assault from men. So it is easy for him to say "oh, it's only a small minority of women don't want men in the toilets, it's maybe because they were assaulted" on that basis.

Because they don't want to think that a very large number of women have experienced violence or been sexually assaulted by a man. Or men. Which means lots of men are doing it. And men don't like to think of that. They prefer it when it is just a small minority of women affected and probably a smaller minority of men capable of harming them.

The follow on from that is women can only object if something bad has happened to them, not because they want to protect their spaces. And why are they objecting anyway, it's not like lots of women have been attacked and it's not like lots of men attack?

The new left is as Authoritarian as it gets. In fact I think that would be a more accurate way of describing the political divide. Right and left mean nothing.

Well.. we Are terf island. And we do have the SC judgement on our side (yes I know how people aren't currently complying.. but eventually, law suits galore, they will have to..). Which is more than most of the rest of Europe and Australia have. At least.

Bridgertonisbest · 20/05/2026 10:46

I have experienced all manner of sexual and non sexual violence from men. No, not an ex sex worker but merely grew up working class!

I couldn’t give a toss who’s in the next cubicle of the loos to me. None of the men who have assaulted me were dressed as a woman. Men have never needed to dress as women to attack them. Almost all the men that attacked me were known to me/family.

i would suggest that the ons figures are vastly under represented. Amongst my friends, it’s more like 1 in 6 NOT assaulted.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/05/2026 10:46

Polling shows very clearly that he’s wrong. The vast majority think single sex spaces should be just that. Transwomen should not be in female spaces.

Ive said this before on here. There is no one more millitant than the liberal left.
Only think what we think. If you think or believe different YOU ARE WRONG

liamharha · 20/05/2026 10:48

It personally doesn't bother me but I fully support the women who it does bother and affects because I don't know what trauma or fear they have that have lead them to feel the need for sex separated facilities. I think any woman who just thinks I'm not bothered so why should you be is selfish and lacks basic empathy or care for fellow women .
