to turn away my takeaway?

Opinions please! My friend thinks me and my husband are being completely ridiculous but I'm adamant we're in the right (but happy to be told otherwise!)
Ordered an Indian takeaway on ubereats for tonight (50% off woop woop!). Asked for scheduled delivery 7.40-8. All good, order accepted, confirmation email, your order will be delivered at 7.40.
Come 6.10 there is a ring on the bell and it's our food! We were just starting to try and calm our 5 and 2 year olds down before bedtime started, and were basically nowhere near ready for dinner! So we said "no". The man just stood and stared at us like we were utterly insane. After about a minute of silent staring he went back to his car to call his manager and then yelled out of the window that he'd come back later and drove off.
Now I know there is a reasonable chance he'll just being the exact same food back (possibly with added spit), but I think the principal remains. What is the point of being able to schedule delivery if it's totally ignored?? We wanted hot, fresh food at about 8 after the boys were asleep and we could relax. My friend happened to call a minute ago and basically said that I was being ridiculous and should've just taken the food. Who's right?
YABU - just take the damn food whenever it comes, Otters!
YANBU -you paid for the food to be delivered at a certain time, it's reasoab to want it at that time.

I would have explained the time slot you had booked the delivery for, asked him to come back, and explained why it wasn’t convenient for you to accept the food.

But if you’ve only able to speak in one word sentence and have the time to stare silently at someone for a minute then you do you!

buymeaboaanddrivemetoreno · Today 19:47

sounds like it’s not the delivery drivers fault but someone ignoring this at the restaurant! Definitely not unreasonable, the curry would be fine but the naan and other things might not be!

anxiouslywaiting8 · Today 19:48

I would have accepted the food personally, your right that it should have been delivered during the correct window and it's annoying it wasn't but I find those delivery services unpredictable. So maybe next time just order once your kids are already in bed.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Today 19:50

I think YABU actually, it’s not the drivers fault and you were incredibly rude

dontforgetme · Today 19:56

I 100% agree with your friend!

ButterYellowFlowers · Today 19:56

While it was bad of them I’d have just accepted it and reheated. Then not ordered from there again.

user1471453601 · Today 19:59

Do you not have a microwave?

Giraffeandthedog · Today 19:59

I certainly wouldn’t eat the redelivered food 😂

Clearly there has just been a mistake. The order has gone to the kitchen too early. Personally I would have accepted it and reheated it, simply because mistakes happen and it was a one-off.

VIII · Today 20:00

Your friend is completely correct.

The poor delivery driver, why were you so rude to him? His job is to deliver the order. He didn't decide it would be hilarious if he delivered it an hour and a half early. Hmm

I'd be surprised if they delivered it again to be honest.

Anxietyxxx · Today 20:00

Just re heat it ive done it many times before.
In fact i love it if it arrives early.
Im with your friend on this.
Its not the drivers fault is it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Today 20:01

I think I would have taken it to avoid getting the same food back later with added spit! And then taken it up with the restaurant.

Comedycook · Today 20:01

In theory you're right. In practice I'd have just taken it and heated it up

Shedmistress · Today 20:01

You'd rather it sit in the back of a car for 2 hours than just take it and reheat it yourselves?

It takes all sorts.

JLou08 · Today 20:03

I think you were in the right. They should have delivered at the time requested. I would have been really annoyed if it happened to me.

KerryWeaversSpecs · Today 20:03

I would have kept it and put it in a very low oven.

ReignOfError · Today 20:03

You’re not going to get fresh, hot food though.

mumofoneAloneandwell · Today 20:04

Ooo

I'd be ticked off (edit, I wouldnt say this to the driver, id just say that hes early) and would complain to uber eats and get myself a partial refund

Sending him away, that man is coming back with the exact same food (likely plus spit) sorry 😬😬

Is it an uber eats driver or one from the restaurant?

You sound like you were rude in your op, was that just how you typed it or were you actually rude to him? If the latter, you cant go back there again 😫

Bliiink · Today 20:05

It's not rude to turn down an order. You shouldn't just accept the order 'because it's not the driver's fault. But agree you'll get the same food in 2 hours anyway so you'd have been as well keeping it and reheating it yourself or keeping it on the oven on a very low heat. I agree it's rubbish because you wanted it at a specific time and takeaways aren't cheap! Eating it with the children around would have completely taken the treat element out of it for me.

susiedaisy1912 · Today 20:06

So did you actually explain to the driver why you couldn’t take the delivery at that time?

TheBloomingDahlia · Today 20:06

I can see both sides. I would’ve just taken it and heated it up later because it’s probably at least partially premade anyway and it’s there now. I’d also be worried the guy would just keep it in his car for a hour! But it does defeat the purpose of you choosing a time, they should honour the time. It annoys me when Asda tries to deliver early sometimes - I chose the slot I wanted because that’s when I want it

TheBeaTgoeson1 · Today 20:10

It’s annoying but I’d have reheated.

FieryA · Today 20:14

You could have taken the food and reheated it later and complained to Ubereats about the restaurant. You might even gotten refund or credits for the inconvenience. What is the guarantee now that you are going to get fresh, hot food?

CoyGoldenKoi · Today 20:15

I think you're right, but in the interest of receiving my food without additional unwanted bodily fluids, I would have just accepted it and microwaved it later.

FryingPam · Today 20:15

I would have taken it and reheated it, but also complained to Uber. Alternatively, I’d have politely explained to the driver why I can’t accept it and cancelled it altogether.

RudolphTheReindeer · Today 20:16

I didn't even know you could schedule a time for takeaway deliveries. We're still stuck with order roughly when you want it and hope it won't be too long out here in the sticks.
