to turn away my takeaway?

Opinions please! My friend thinks me and my husband are being completely ridiculous but I'm adamant we're in the right (but happy to be told otherwise!)
Ordered an Indian takeaway on ubereats for tonight (50% off woop woop!). Asked for scheduled delivery 7.40-8. All good, order accepted, confirmation email, your order will be delivered at 7.40.
Come 6.10 there is a ring on the bell and it's our food! We were just starting to try and calm our 5 and 2 year olds down before bedtime started, and were basically nowhere near ready for dinner! So we said "no". The man just stood and stared at us like we were utterly insane. After about a minute of silent staring he went back to his car to call his manager and then yelled out of the window that he'd come back later and drove off.
Now I know there is a reasonable chance he'll just being the exact same food back (possibly with added spit), but I think the principal remains. What is the point of being able to schedule delivery if it's totally ignored?? We wanted hot, fresh food at about 8 after the boys were asleep and we could relax. My friend happened to call a minute ago and basically said that I was being ridiculous and should've just taken the food. Who's right?
YABU - just take the damn food whenever it comes, Otters!
YANBU -you paid for the food to be delivered at a certain time, it's reasoab to want it at that time.

These things happen in life we dont always get what we want.

But it’s not an “Oh well, these things happen, couldn’t be helped” scenario though, is it? OP paid for a specific service and they didn’t provide it!

I’m just trying to get my head around the fact that you couldn’t eat if your children were wake.

I’m sure you can if you try really hard.

they wanted to relax. Not eat a treat dinner whilst bathing kids and trying to get them to bed.

Daisymug · Yesterday 21:32

Round here you would get it when it came! I would have just taken it. Very envious that you can order for a twenty minute window!

jinglejanglescarecat · Yesterday 21:32

i think you did the right thing actually and well done for making the point. I’m not sure id have been so brave. I’d have taken it and re-heated and then moaned and moaned 😂🫣

it’s so annoying when they arrive really early when you’ve specifically asked for it at a set time. For a reason!! Takeaway is expensive. You what to properly enjoy it.

agree it’s not driver fault though - but he’s the face I guess!

PinoirNot · Yesterday 21:33

I love that so many of you are falling out with each other over this.

Bliiink · Yesterday 21:35

Newnamesarehard · Yesterday 21:14

Just curious, why not order it when they are down?

Because kids wake up so even if you preordered it and the kids were still awake at 8 then what? Accepted it and reheated it anyway or?

I could pretty much guarantee mine would be asleep. We've had many a meal with friends and family planned and eaten at 8pm when the kids are in bed. They go to bed when they're told and don't get up again!

We’ve risked it this way and it was so late I was falling asleep!! Can’t win!!

the whole point of the scheduled window is so that you can have your food during a time that suits. No point having the option if they ignore it

Technically you weren’t in the wrong, but like… just take the food and leave a review mentioned the earlier time. Making them come back is a bit shit.

Leaving a negative review is even shittier. You have to give companies the opportunity to fix mistakes before slating them online

awayhay · Yesterday 21:38

You’re totally in the right & I’d have been pissed off too if you wanted it once the kids were asleep. I probably wouldn’t have sent them away with it because I’m a people pleaser, but I think you did the right thing.

thekindoflovewemake · Yesterday 21:41

I’d have just taken it and put it in a low oven tbh. As you said they’ll only send the same food again in an hour after probably giving it a whiz in their microwave 🤷🏼‍♀️

notacooldad · Yesterday 21:45

Mistakes/ miscommunication happens.

I would have accepted and put in the air fryer to heat up or put the oven on low to keep warm rather than them being late as they would probably be out getting the next round of orders out.
I cant imagine standing and staring at someone for about a minute though!

Its annoying but I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over it.

I get lots of this - usually worded as "we wondered if you would LIKE early delivery."
If I'd have liked it then, I'd have booked it for then

I've had this and im usually happy to take it. Sometimes I get home earlier than planned or plans change and it means it can be dropped off and I can get on with my day. Im happy to take an earlier option if I can.

I wasn’t thinking negative necessarily, tbh - ie food was great etc however came earlier than expected.

i wouldn’t class that as particularly negative but tbf I don’t run a restaurant

StephensLass1977 · Yesterday 21:47

This happened to us once in London (minus the saying "no" etc - we kept the food) and we actually got blacklisted. A few years later, the restaurant got new managers, and they emailed us asking us to come back, they'd give us a discount etc, but zero chance of that.

You've very likely annoyed them now, rightly or wrongly. If it's somewhere you like, I'd have just accepted the food on this occasion.

It's like when you pay a fortune for Amazon Prime, choose your delivery day, and then the order rocks up whenever THEY feel like sending it. Happening loads at the moment. It is annoying and I do understand why you were annoyed. I can get very funny about my takeaways. If there's an incorrect item, I get really upset.

Totaldramallama · Yesterday 21:48

Comedycook · Yesterday 20:01

In theory you're right. In practice I'd have just taken it and heated it up

Yes agreed.

This happened to me years ago so I never use scheduled delivery now. I don't think the restaurant reads the order in that much detail

Dizzydrizzy · Yesterday 21:48

Genuinely. You’ll have eaten loads of extras. Never ever get food redelivered 🤢🤢🤢

Livpool · Yesterday 21:52

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Yesterday 19:50

I think YABU actually, it’s not the drivers fault and you were incredibly rude

Agreed! Did it really matter? Just warm it up. - that so what the restaurant will have done anyway

Silverbirchleaf · Yesterday 21:53

I feel the same way with food deliveries. If I’ve booked a 2-3pm slot, don’t turn up 40 minutes early, or at least, phone me first to check it’s convenient to come.

ThisCandidMintGoose · Yesterday 21:53

if it was a Michelin star restaurant, I would have demanded a michelin star service.

For an Indian takeaway with 50% off? completely ridiculous and uptight. Yes, comment- it's lucky you were even home, but your expectations are way above what you are paying for. Poor delivery guy, he got a bollocking by you, a bollocking by his boss and no food himself.

OnepinkGiddyBiscuit · Yesterday 21:54

You could have reheated it to say no to the driver is a bit ridiculous tbh yes they should have delivered it on the time you asked but it wasn't the end of the world next time order about 15 mins before the kids go to bed or soon as their in bed

ThisCandidMintGoose · Yesterday 21:55

Thinking about it, the few times I do order takeway, I order when we're more or less ready and they tend to turn up earlier than originally scheduled. And everybody is happy.

RedRock41 · Yesterday 21:56

Ridiculous imho. You could have accepted and reheated if need be.

Wetcoatsandmudagain · Yesterday 22:02

YABU such a non event.
when so many people are going hungry in the world I would just be grateful for the food. Mistakes happen but it’s hardly the end of the bloody world

Fgs get over it.
Some people cant afford to have takeaways some cant afford to eat because they need what they have left for the kids.
Others are barly getting by be lucky you aint one of these people.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · Yesterday 22:08

suburberphobe · Yesterday 20:24

Of course you buzz them in and accept the food, like previous people say, heat it up when ready to eat.

They're not at your beck and call, OP!

Is this not the idea of a takeaway that you order food and they bring it to you? OP made a perfectly reasonable request and it wasnt honoured. I know I wouldn't much like to spend money on a takeaway and not be able to enjoy it hot and fresh.

best tasting jizz I've had if so! 😂

Tbf, that's quite a low bar...
