To be uncomfortable as an bit role in customers' sex games?

I work in a Nice gastropub.

Last night a couple came in for a booked table. The booking notes had asked for sit on the edge of the main section of the restaurant. This isn't uncommon as we have live music on a Friday and it's a good viewing spot. It's a lively pub and busy restaurant.

They were in my section and I welcomed them, got chatting and they told me they we out to celebrate their 4 month anniversary. Champagne was ordered. A pleasant, attractive young couple having a lovely night out.

Then the mood changed a bit; the woman went to the loo and the man played with his phone while she did do.

When she came back he moved his phone to his lap and started to mess with it surreptitiously under the table.

It was so freaking obvious what was going on; her face became animated and she started squirming.

I went back to clear their starter dish and offered more drinks, just doing my job, but they were obviously observing me to see if I noticed.

I went down the civil professional and verging on brusque approach to them fro that point and tried to speed them through the meal to get them off the table quickly.

All the other servers that night were a level students and I wasn't going to expose them to that so I took full ownership of the table.

Grim fuckers Do some people have no shame?

OP posts:
bigboykitty · 16/05/2026 14:40

Grim. Do you have a booking system? Can you block them from making reservations in future? Skanky pigs.

Milkmonitoring · 16/05/2026 14:44

Gross

Spicysirracha · 16/05/2026 14:47

What was your “role”?

I assume she had inserted a sex toy whilst in the bathroom and he was operating it with his phone @PistachioTiramisu

That is truly disgusting.

Spicysirracha · 16/05/2026 14:47

What was your “role”?

Audience. Non consenting.

Spicysirracha · 16/05/2026 14:47

Were you the most senior person on shift?

outerspacepotato · 16/05/2026 14:49

Yeah, those are the kind of fucks that get a kick out of bringing their poor servers and others into their sex games without consent.

Spill drinks on them, they lose their keys, whatever.

TeflonMom · 16/05/2026 14:51

I used to work in a phone shop and couples would come in and ask you to look at their phone to fix something or show them a function and there would be a photo of something explicit as the screensaver. They would stand there waiting for your reaction. Just weirdos trying to get their jollies

PersephonePomegranate · 16/05/2026 14:52

I think @bigboykitty has a good suggestion.

Surely, this counts as sexual harassment.

SixLeggedSugarBug · 16/05/2026 14:57

Vile. Definitely ban them from future bookings.

FlapperFlamingo · 16/05/2026 14:58

Grim. Next time mistakenly serve a pint of beer, and "ooops you got it wrong" and as you pick it up you drop it and over his lap.

sunnydisaster · 16/05/2026 14:06

That’s what thought!!

I must really be getting old (well, I AM old) - I had just assumed that he was wanking to porn on his phone.

Whichever, utterly 🤮 though.

Butterme · 16/05/2026 15:07

If a man was having a wank in a public place then he’d be arrested.

How is this any different.

I would like to have asked them to leave or rang the police - but how do you prove it.

I would have just looked over and given a disgusted look and ‘eww’ sound.
If they complained I would have denied it.

RACanGoGetFucked · 16/05/2026 15:10

Spicysirracha · 16/05/2026 14:47

What was your “role”?

Non consenting observer.

For some people they get aroused at the making other people uncomfortable. They enjoy the idea of people being uncomfortable as well as getting a thrill out of knowing a lot of people will not challenge them.

They don’t want to be watched by people who consent to watching, they want to make people feel embarrassed and uncomfortable and they get aroused by watching people trying to hide that discomfort.

It’s fucking grim, when the sex board appeared in active a couple of years ago, there was a thread on there where people were sharing where they go and what they do and how thrilling it is when someone has spotted them and is visibly uncomfortable.

rwalker · 16/05/2026 15:12

Your being unreasonable
ether call them out or don’t complain

Dollymylove · 16/05/2026 15:16

You should have sent one of the students iver to serve them
Something to tell their mates about after work 🤣

Its different because the man would be guilty of two observable acts, indecent exposure and committing a sex act in public. This man is guilty of having a phone on his lap and the woman is guilty of squirming and changing her facial expression. You can't arrest people for that. Which makes it all the worse because its subtle and unprovable, and OP would be gaslit if she tried to do anything about it.

Bigcat25 · 16/05/2026 15:19

Of course you have a right to be uncomfortable. What a pair of assholes. This is a thing for some people though.

NoisyMonster678 · 16/05/2026 15:22

You need to bann him OP. It may not have been the womans fault but he is gross and if it had offended other customers it may cost the buisness some reputational damage.

Why is he more gross than the woman who was enthusiastically taking part in the same thing?

Lomonald · 16/05/2026 15:28

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/05/2026 14:04

I had to read through twice to get it 😅

She had a vibrator inside her and he was controlling it from his phone?

Eww for you having to serve them 🤢🤢😄😄

💐 yanbu x

I thought they were going to proposition you for a 3some!

Edited

Stop it ! I would never have got that i am clearly very naive 😳

Op that is gross honestly people have no shame.

BridgetJonesV2 · 16/05/2026 15:29

I would have said to the manager on duty at the very least. Or asked her if she needed medical assistance.

GenialHarrietGrouty · 16/05/2026 15:36

I'd have asked them to leave immediately. At least it would have interrupted their game.

awfulapril · 16/05/2026 15:36

If it bothered you, you could report it as a public order offence section 5.
That it's caused harassment alarm or distress

Eh? Why is he the only one at fault?!
