The truth shall set you free

Act like you have five minutes it will take all day, act like you have all day and it will take five minutes. Initially I heard this in the context of horsemanship but have found it to be equally as useful with children, dogs and the general public.

The two wolves fighting for your spirit. The one you feed is the one who will win.

Also from Pierce Brisbane who has had great loss in his life.

If you worry, you die. If you don’t worry, you die. So don’t worry.

Sometimes hard to live up to though!

Sorry, Brosnan not Brisbane.

Never mistake humility for weakness - or confidence for competence

So true, a few of our politicians should note it !!

MagnusSkipton · 18/05/2026 21:23

You never get a second chance to make a first impression

MyGammyEye · 18/05/2026 21:25

YOLO innit. Me, in poor health aged 50.

Also, something about resentment being the equivalent of drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.

Life IS short.

You don't know what you have until it's gone.

GrillaMilla · 18/05/2026 21:26

If in doubt, do nowt

Every problem has a solution

Don't let worry, worry you

Use your head, your feet’s for dancing!

Your coat is only hung up, not nailed up!

tachetastic · 18/05/2026 22:38

I grew up in the 1970s and whenever there was a thunderstorm my grandmother used to open the front and back doors, and the doors inbetween, "so a thunderbolt would go through the house without causing damage".

I was about 30 before I processed just how insane that was and my poor grandparents with all the doors open in a storm!

If not you then who? If not now then when? (I’m a natural workshy procrastinator who’s got to a leadership job by reminding myself of this)

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Growth doesn't come from the comfort zone.

Over prepare.

Be the change you want to see.

thats a misquote from Kennedy, although Rabbi Hillel said something similar.

I tell my kids two things

Even if the problem is not yet sorted, once you have a plan (to sort it) you will instantly feel a bit better.

Always tell the truth and try to do the right thing. It’s really liberating not having to keep a track of what lies you’ve told, and to have a clear conscience.

they don’t always follow it.

mbosnz · 19/05/2026 12:22

My very proper mother, urged me to 'try before you buy', i.e live with and have a sex life with a man before marrying him. She wasn't wrong.

I've passed it on to my daughters.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/05/2026 18:50

If you have children buy a car bigger than what you need so you can give lifts to others. Best advice ever. I got a 7 seater and always offered an empty seat, it always paid off and I did about half the journeys I would have done otherwise.

Isn't it 'fail to prepare, prepare to fail..' ? I've never heard your version...🤔

Taylor Swift definitely used @godmum56's version.

In fairness I've taken a few life lessons from song lyrics over the years.

We did this. I don't think it has saved me any car journeys but it definitely made some of them more fun. 😁

and I had never heard yours....it doesn't make either of us wrong.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. It stops me chasing perfection at the expense of enjoying what I’ve already found.

I don't understand this one. Is there a bit missing about who the two wolves are or am I being a bit dense? That is quite possible.

tachetastic · 20/05/2026 19:53

The difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is a fortnight.

I'm not sure that's actually true but it's what my dad used to say when I was upset.
