Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

Firetreev · 06/05/2026 16:45

The right wing press had kittens about Starmer receiving some free glasses, yet are shtum about Farage receiving £5 million in the twelve months prior to him becoming an MP. No one gives someone £5 million pounds. Farage is bought and paid for by a shifty, Thailand based billionaire. Why don't voters and the media care?

Exclusive: Nigel Farage was given undisclosed £5m by crypto billionaire in 2024

Reform leader changed his mind about standing as MP after gift from Thai-based crypto tycoon Christopher Harborne

So the crime was committed in 2013.

I don't know - did she tells further lies to her employer in 2014? In any case, we mostly disagreed about the date of her conviction - you said her conviction was 2013.

You think there is no issue with a convicted criminal funding Farage

Apparently we let convicted criminals become MPs.

Cottrell faced 20 years in jail for 21 counts related to money laundering, fraud, blackmail and extortion.

'Posh George': Who is aristocrat and convicted criminal at heart of Farage controversy? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yzzw5vk8vo

The HOPE not hate link has some details of the case - sadly lacking in details regarding blackmail and extortion.

Where exactly are you looking/listening? It was on BBC all day yesterday, further discussion today, I'm sure it was also on Itv news yesterday, though it could have been Channel 4. I've been aware of it for a long time and this current discussion is actually a re-emergence. His story has "evolved" over this time.

I posted that two months ago. Please look at the date. The story has definitely been gaining traction in the past month or so!

Edit - this isn't a new thread. It keeps being revived.

Still less scandals than Farage

Will you do one for the Tories as well?

This government haven't been around as long - give them time !

Will you do one for the Tories as well?

I will if I can find one !

Hi, @ladypenelopepitstop.

So what do you think of Farage failing to declare more than £5 million donations and gifts in kind?

And do you find it more concerning that they're from people living outside the UK, or are you no more concerned than if the donors lived in the UK?

And the Tories?

If you are going to do a whatabout, don't leave them out.

What do you think of Farage's £5m?

TopPocketFind · 05/07/2026 23:59

@ladypenelopepitstop Don't worry about the Tory scandals, we all know them.

But do tell what you think about these donations that Farage failed to declare.

IceLimes · 06/07/2026 01:30

Dillydollydingdong · 14/05/2026 20:27

Because as you said, he received that money before he was even an MP. So no obligation on him to declare it. And there was no guarantee he ever would become an MP.

There are rules for a reason.
The rule in this case is that any benefits such as gifts received in the 12 months before election must be registered. He did become an MP, and didn’t declare the gift. That’s why it’s being investigated.

HRTQueen · 06/07/2026 01:43

I don’t expect it to be reported on in depth in some areas of the media but I do in others

even LBC Nick Ferrari has been questioning him about it. As long as journalists keep doing this and they are not letting it go the longer the story shall hang around

and Farage is rattled by this I have not seen him look so irritated the hapoy chap mates with everyone down the pub facade is falling away

he has no interest in being PM he will resign or step aside to let someone else lead and that will be the end of Reform as a threat to our democracy

Well just look to the US to see how the media treated Biden, hysterical over him showing his age, and Hunter's laptop, vs how they treat Trump, mostly ignoring the clear dementia, psychosis and endless grift.

First trump is a moron but Biden couldn’t walk and talk at the same time. His wife and close people kept him away from everyone. You think he was running the country?

And you think that isn’t happening with Trump!😂

Perfect28 · 06/07/2026 06:49

Because racists don't let facts get in the way of their ideology.

BeardySchnauzer · 06/07/2026 07:09

Labour/trump/tories - it’s all just a distraction

Farage is now making out it’s an establishment plot and he’s going to sue the Sunday times (like last time Nige? Oh no you didn’t did you - just blamed the Russians 🙄)

reform have benefitted from discontent and protest votes. We now from the Brexit vote that people don’t always do a lot of research before voting and go for gut. Calling people stupid or racist doesn’t make them engage with the issues and makes people feel set apart from the political parties. Remember Gordon Brown and the dreadful woman? It all started then and a lot of the electorate don’t feel listened to.

the answer isn’t reform or Nigel Farage - the answer is for the main parties to open their ears and win the arguments

Theolittle · 06/07/2026 07:44

abracadabra1980 · 05/07/2026 22:43

Agree 100% - as do a large number of folk where I live and work. Mostly professionals. It's astonishing how presumptuous some people are, about the intelligence and demographic of many people supporting Reform. Uncontrolled immigration is the #1 issue, along with the economy.

“Uncontrolled immigration “ - the vast majority of immigrants are “controlled”. The Boris wave of nearly 2 million over 2 years was because businesses needed the workers, and to grow the economy. The UK needed this. Difference now is that they’re predominantly black and brown immigrants rather than white european immigrants which does have its challenges.

Sorry but listening to the electorate and doing what they say would be sure downfall for the UK

  1. the electorate are not of one opinion - on any subject - at either platitude level or the complex detail
  2. most of the electorate want better services but everyone thinks a different section of the electorate should pay for it
  3. only about 5% have any inkling about bond markets

No you don’t blindly listen to the electorate and do what they want 🙄

you listen to what they are saying and convince them that what you are suggesting is the right path. You don’t just tell them they’re all bigots and crack on

Theolittle · 06/07/2026 08:11

The bigot comment from 16 years ago, was a private remark made following a difficult and stressful exchange, and an apology was made immediately. I’m sure if you could record all the private comments from politicians of all ilks you’d hear allsorts when they’re letting off steam, same as most human beings.

What's your point? Mine was that anyone watching what's happening in the US, including the blatant corruption, should be wary of Farage.

Yours I guess is just to spew illogical and specious right wing talking points even when not germane to the conversation?

It was hilarious to see Jenrick label The Times as a Labour supporting media outlet. What planet are they on?
