For asking my partner not to sleep naked

Em111110 · 04/05/2026 23:21

For some reason, my partner of 13 years has recently started sleeping naked. By recent, I mean the last few weeks. He says it is freeing and he sleeps better naked. There are occasions where we have fallen asleep naked in the past but we mostly wear pjs or at least underwear. The main reason is we have an 11 year old daughter, but I am also a bit of a clean freak and he is a typical sweaty farty man and it it gives me the ick sleeping naked in our sheets. My partner also doesn’t sleep well and gets up numerous times through the night, leaving the room to go for a drink, bathroom etc naked or kicks the sheets off so everything is on show. He says I am controlling for asking him to wear at least underwear to bed but I don’t think it’s appropriate for him to be naked when we have a nearly teenage daughter. AIBU?

Each to their own, but I hate sleeping naked. Cannot bear the feel of skin on skin. And I don't like men sleeping naked either - any excuse to 'accidentally' brush their bits against you when you are trying to sleep!

Honestly, a child seeing their parent naked is not "horrifying". Why should it be?

Seeing my dad naked would have been horrifying to me as a teenager tbh. As soon as my sons became teenagers it became clear they were uncomfortable if they walked in on me changing etc so I respected their boundaries as my partner does with our daughter,

WhatAboutSecondBreakfast86 · 05/05/2026 09:34

Honestly I don't envy those people on here who seem to think everything in normal life is somehow disgusting or grim. Do they walk around in a permanent cloud of dettol? what a miserable existence. Nothing wrong with sleeping naked or otherwise and it is not grim!

Sheets are not worn like underwear.

Sheets are not worn like underwear only if you are wearing a g-string.

BauhausOfEliott · 05/05/2026 09:44

How the hell does anyone manage to have a normal relationship if they're repelled by their partner's naked body?

JFC, there are some hang-ups on this site.

I had the opposite partner insist I did sleep naked when I didn’t like it..want to wear clothes.

I think the result for you OP is that DP does the laundry of the bed linen…regularly. I shower before bed..unwashed naked body next to me wouldn’t feel pleasant to me either..especially with nocturnal toilet visits

Both equally wrong, IMO!

He had no right to say you should sleep naked, OP
hss no right to say her DH can’t sleep
naked.

Its personal choice.

I change on a night by night basis 🤣

This thread is obviously amusing and bonkers but it’s also sad. It’s the most natural thing in the world to sleep naked! DH and I always do. Our son also loves to sleep naked. It’s comfortable, natural and normal behaviour.
Frankly. I would leave you if I were your DH, you are being controlling and you appear to be repulsed by your him.

Lovemuesli · 05/05/2026 09:50

It's fine for him to sleep naked if he wants but he needs to put a dressing gown on when he leaves the room. And your daughter should knock if she wants to come in.

Really? Surely it’s the type of men you sleep
with. My DH may well brush against me whilst naked in bed, not an issue. I don’t dictate that he therefore can’t sleep naked “in case”?

In 13 years my husband has never once brushed his bits against me accidentally… he has manners

clearlyy · 05/05/2026 09:51

I have slept naked my whole life, couldn’t imagine sleeping in clothes being such a sweaty person during my sleep. He should not be walking around the house naked though. That’s not on.

Anyone can do what they want but I’ve never slept naked, I hated the thought of my mum or dad walking in and the covers may be off, had the same thoughts when my kids were teenagers, i feel more relaxed and comfortable wearing something so it’s not sad for me and I live a very fulfilled happy life!

A friend once told me she had to tuck the covers under herself to stop her husband touching her up in the night. Like it’s normalHow grim is that?
dh and I have never had issue sleeping next to each other . If a person has to worry about that they have bigger problems.

Where is his arsehole? On his back?

Laying on your side or back doesn't leave 'faceal residue' anywhere unless you've smeared it all over yourself first.

So glad you replied as I was just WTF at this post.

Contrary to MN beliefs, most adult males do seem capable of wiping their arses.

You know what I mean.

No, please explain - how do you rub your flaps? The internet wants to know!

TealScroller · 05/05/2026 10:33

I agree wholeheartedly. I had a similar issue with my partner, it was only after I found a skid mark on his side of the bed that I kicked off and he started wearing boxers!

Hellohelga · 05/05/2026 10:35

Could you compromise on just pants to keep his sweaty balls off the bed linen?

Omg vile, I’d insist on two pairs of pants!

Oh god I agree, I can't bear the sensation of my arms and legs touching each other, I'm a long sleeved, long legged pyjama girl!

The same explanation that others have given for why it's gross. Flaps, balls and arse touching the sheets all night = you'd have to constantly change them for hygiene reasons.

How do you rub your flaps and arsehole in the sheets? Seriously?

QuintadosMalvados · 05/05/2026 10:48

I don't know about you scummy lot but both dh and I nip down every single night to our local nuclear power station to make of use their decontamination showers.
After we've dried off, we then layer up with several layers-10 to be precise-of medical grade bandaging before each donning a full suit of armour.

We don't have children, though. For some reason, sexual intercourse seems too much hassle when we're in bed and of course anywhere else would be completely unhygienic.

HTH.

ToadRage · 05/05/2026 10:49

Can you compromise? I had this same conversation with my husband. When we met he slept naked every night, he said it was too hot for clothes. I love pyjamas and hate sleeping naked. Now he wears pyjama shorts or loose pajama bottoms,

MsJinks · 05/05/2026 10:55

Another amazing MN thread haha!

I live alone, and single, and thank god I think! I sometimes sleep naked, sometimes not. I cover up to wander if others are here - or umm windows! - but honestly, if my fella were so repulsed by my body when on view, or it touching the shared sheets then I’d be pretty upset. If they reminded me ‘teens alert’ then I’d not be running around outside the bedroom naked - however, your dd will only have to catch him once and the horror on both sides will solve that part lol. Or they’ll both survive and it’s no issue anyhow.

The rest I just can’t get onboard with being so fussed what people wear or not in their own bed, in their own home. Unless there are absolutely dire leavings on the sheets it is absolutely up to him - leave him a- bloody -lone ffs - and I rarely think the guy is right haha.

Edited for sp/clarity

didgeridid · 05/05/2026 10:58

We sleep naked, or daughter often sleeps naked. No one gets dressed to go for a wee in the middle of the night. As long as there is nothing inappropriate going on, getting a glimpse of a naked body is not going to kill anyone.
