For asking my partner not to sleep naked

Em111110 · 04/05/2026 23:21

For some reason, my partner of 13 years has recently started sleeping naked. By recent, I mean the last few weeks. He says it is freeing and he sleeps better naked. There are occasions where we have fallen asleep naked in the past but we mostly wear pjs or at least underwear. The main reason is we have an 11 year old daughter, but I am also a bit of a clean freak and he is a typical sweaty farty man and it it gives me the ick sleeping naked in our sheets. My partner also doesn’t sleep well and gets up numerous times through the night, leaving the room to go for a drink, bathroom etc naked or kicks the sheets off so everything is on show. He says I am controlling for asking him to wear at least underwear to bed but I don’t think it’s appropriate for him to be naked when we have a nearly teenage daughter. AIBU?

We both always sleep naked and have managed to raise 2 children to untraumatised adulthood despite this.

You should try it OP (and stop being controlling).

socks1107 · 05/05/2026 08:24

It’s absolutely fine. I haven’t worn clothes in bed for 20 years. It is being controlling to dictate what he does and doesn’t wear to bed

Well actually, when we fart we do expell fecal matter. All of us.

Farting isn't something you can control.

There are four states of matter ma'am, solid, liquid, gas and plasma. A fart is most definitely in the gas category. If you are expelling solids or liquids when you fart, please see your medical practitioner. And get the crowd to stand back if plasma is involved.

A common myth. Farts aren’t strong enough to do that:

Educate yourself! Even the most basic googling will get you to a relevant article on average faecal content of adult underwear for healthy, faecal continent non-geriatric adults.

A microscopic and harmless amount is found in used underwear, but unless the husband is wrapping the sheets around his nethers, it’s not the same. Also why are we so terrified of natural bodily functions? Presumably the exchanged body fluids to make their daughter, pretty unsanitary and no doubt some faecal matter sliding around there too.

I'm not clicking on a random link. I don't care that much. A puff of air, clean or splattery coming out of a place that ejects shit at speed brings particles of shit with it. It doesn't matter if small or not. It's 1+1 stuff

Anyway, since the OP hasn't been back, we can assume we've been conned with some click bait.

There are people on here who like talking about/ shit.

Twattergy · 05/05/2026 08:35

Hmm at the people saying its unhygienic! Honestly, so weird.

He could at least keep a dressing gown on a hook on the bedroom door so he isnt freely swinging his giblets round the house at night for a start.

🤣🤩

Stay ignorant, makes no difference to me.

Man, you're quite protective of sleeping naked. Do what you want in your own bedroom.

I wouldn't like it either. I struggle to change the bedding because of arthritis & only change it every other week. I simply couldn't do it more than that. Wearing night clothes stops the bedding getting dirty.

Wouldn’t care about the sleeping naked but I do find it weird that he’s not horrified by the idea of his 11 year old seeing him naked in the middle of the night.

I have an 11 year old. My husband would simply never deliberately put her in a position where she had to see him naked. It’s not appropriate.

Honestly, a child seeing their parent naked is not "horrifying". Why should it be?

I already said I don’t do it, your weirdly aggressive tone about how people sleep is quite something though.

nam3c4ang3 · 05/05/2026 08:57

this thread is hilarious 😂 - fwiw - i sleep naked sometimes, as does my husband - we have a 12 year old and a 9 year only - the older knows to knock - the 9 year old bursts in like its christmas everyday - both seen us naked, i still wash the 9 year old from time to time as if not they will never ever be properly clean. It's not a big deal. Teach you kids to knock and stop being so controlling...

cramptramp · 05/05/2026 08:58

Do you honestly think him wearing something in bed keeps his farts from penetrating your bedding? And unless you make him wear long sleeve and full length pyjamas in bed parts of his unclothed body will be touching the bedding!! You sound deranged OP.

GenialHarrietGrouty · 05/05/2026 08:55

I agree - my 12 year old has knocked on the bathroom door many times to ask to come in to look for something etc and its never been weird - they are not staring at me or my husband up and down and being horrified by it either...its a weird take on seeing you own families naked body...

LizzieLazzie · 05/05/2026 09:00

When you fart particles of fecal matter are released and bedding where people sleep naked is always found to be covered in fecal matter (often invisible). You also shed a lot of skin cells, oil, sweat and bacteria during the night. You may be OK with that, I’m not - it makes me feel dirty. I’d have to wash my sheets every day in that situation.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 05/05/2026 09:03

Theraininspainishere · 04/05/2026 23:24

It is the most appropriate and suitable thing in the world for him to be naked in his own bed to sleep.
I couldn’t stay with a partner who insisted I wear clothes at night.
I’m in bed now, in a camper van on a campsite, naked in my bed…….

I just hate wearing underwear in bed. So it’s either naked, half naked or full pyjamas and I could not be with my husband if he tried to imposes any kind of sleep wear rules on me.

BUT walking around the house naked isn’t okay imo. He should definitely put on a dressing gown!

Thehandinthecookiejar · 05/05/2026 09:03

Bit weird to be in a relationship with someone you can’t stand the sight of naked.

He shouldn’t be going to the bathroom naked if there are other people living there tho. That’s just daft.

Of you go to bed clean how does the bedding get dirty?

Wiseplumant · 05/05/2026 09:09

My husband has always slept naked, he prefers it and I have never thought twice about it. He has a dressing gown if we have visitors staying and he needs to get up in the night, same when the kids were still at home. Now the farting is a different matter!

I think living at that micro cellular level would drive me mad.

Additup · 05/05/2026 09:12

My DH wears pj's bottoms and I'm always trying to get him to ditch them. Sometimes i hide them.

Sleeping naked or semi naked feels so much nicer imo and makes sex more likely I think 😁

BackToLurk · 05/05/2026 09:14

I used to sleep entirely naked. I thought it was odd that people wear clothes. Now I wear pants, but only because I don’t want the dog to see my bum in bed.
