Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

I’m going to have to check out Asda tomorrow. I thought Iceland might have stocked it, but no.

Asda do their own version..ice cream roll it's hit and miss if stores have it.
Good luck.

Gutted at the sneaky discontinuing of Gentleman's Relish while my back was turned. The sadness.

Oh no!! That stuff is elite :(

Toast toppers

I came here to say I would like a ham and mushroom toast topper! Also, secret bars, spira, cheese niblets (I think they were called.. they were wheels with a squirrel on the packet), Hamwich with the layer of cheese not the cheese dotted throughout and a thing my mum used to get in the late 80s called superwhip which was like a low fat frozen cream thing weight watchers used to recommend!

VanillaImpulse · 05/05/2026 00:37

Bath Oliver biscuits

DrPrunesqualer · 05/05/2026 00:38

I used to make a simple cheesecake
with icing sugar
cream cheese and
vanilla angel delight

Can’t get that angel delight anywhere these days

Then
huge jars of gooseberries. Safeways used to do them.

I miss texan bars aswell

Dark chocolate bounty- the red one 😭

I saw these in home bargains last week, maybe they’re making a comeback

And Entemanns cakes. Any of them but in particular the carrot cake, sorely missed at every event.

OMG yes the chocolate fudge cake was the absolute best, my mums friend would always have it for dessert for us when we used to go there for lunch! Probably going back about 28 years now!

PetsPalace · 05/05/2026 01:25

Wall's Sky Bar, hardly anyone seems to remember them because I think they were only around a couple of years in the early-mid 90s. Imagine a frozen Wispa/Aero (bubbly choc tube) surrounded by vanilla ice cream and enrobed in more chocolate so sort of like a choc ice with a Twirl finger down the middle 😂

Glitterybee · 05/05/2026 01:29

The original time outs.

The version that we have available today is nothing like what they used to be! I miss them so much 😩

Grandmistress991 · 05/05/2026 01:32

The original milky way. Please bring it back ....with no sodding palm oil either.

KeeleyJ · 05/05/2026 01:33

Worcester Sauce flavour Twiglets

Salt and Vinegar Dairylea Dunkers

Nescafe Gold Blend (before they changed it 😭)

Made by Rowntree I think - caramel filled chocolate eggs as an alternative to a standard easter egg. Individually wrapped in pink and orange foil. Gifted by my family in North England, best Easter treats ever.

Birds add boiling water semolina 😢

I loved that stuff! It was a treat in our house, especially with a blob of jam plonked right on top in the middle of the bowl. 😋

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/05/2026 01:48

Kellogg’s Puffa Puffa Rice cereal

Ben and Jerry’s Coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz ice cream - dd2 recently found this in Australia

Spare Rib crisps. No one ever remembers these. Sold in our school tuck shop late 80s. Fancy black shiny packaging.

Coffee walnut whips

CrowMate · 05/05/2026 06:16

Yes, I was going to say these too.

Gah, failed to quote. I’m referring to Pacers.

Ladyofwoods · 05/05/2026 06:36

Chocolate cup cakes with thick smooth and flat icing on top. They were in fluted foil type cases. Delicious and I miss them. I think they were Lyons? There were always little bits of the icing left on the case which I would lick off!

I don’t know if it’s the same because I never had pims, but Sainsbury’s do a box of “Bakewell” Jaffa cakes - they have cherry jelly, white chocolate with milk chocolate lattice, but also the cake part is slightly almondy. I have bought them a couple of times in the last few months.

They do sound similar! Pims also had a vaguely 'Bakewell' taste!

Imtornanddontknowwhattodo · 05/05/2026 07:42

Fruit club biscuits in purple wrapping.

Mars Delight.

Neapolitan chocolates.

Tesco vegetable plait in the bakery section.

FrankSinatraonToast · 05/05/2026 07:44

I've looked everywhere for tinned celery but can't find it anywhere. Absolutely love it.
I also like Muller light vanilla yoghurt but can only ever find the vanilla with chocolate sprinkles which just isn't the same.

Dipping into a cup of tea and letting the chocolate melt in your mouth. I used to get one every Sunday with my papers.

M&S Swiss Pies
Delrosa Rose Hip Syrup (probably a good job it disappeared, as I'd have no teeth otherwise)

Delrosa is a name that i haven’t heard of for years!

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 04/05/2026 22:09

Spira
Drifter
Mingles
Pyramint
Puff crisps
Dolly Tots and Tiger Tots (long lost siblings of Jelly Tots)
Crisps I was sometimes allowed to have as a very young child, where the crisps were shaped as farm animals. I have no idea what they were called, but I loved them, they were a real treat!

Oh I used to love Tiger Tots, little mini liquorice allsorts! And there were Bunny Tots which were like tiny Tootie Frooties. My mum used to buy me a packet from the shop next to the hairdressers when she went to get her hair cut, they had the full 'tots' range and I had too choose which one!

BoogieVoogieAllNightLong · 05/05/2026 08:10

Apparently there were also Teddy Tots. I had forgotten all these other tots existed but I don't remember Teddy Tots at all, what were they?

Twoweeksandcounting · 05/05/2026 08:12

Mr Kipling apple and custard pies. I think you could also get a variety box, so maybe 3 apples and custard, and 3 apple, blackberry and custard. That little splodge of bright yellow custard inside was soooo good.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/05/2026 08:12

I loved those!

This thread is making me sad. Kind of. In a lighthearted way. 😆
