Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Baileys Haagen Daaz, and the raspberry sorbet one too. Much missed and a staple of my teenage years.

LibertyLily · 04/05/2026 22:45

Heinz celery soup - the only tinned soup I'd eat apart from tomato (and that tastes horribly sweet these days). I used to love this for lunch with buttered wholemeal bread. I've tried making my own but it doesn't taste the same 😢

Also ready salted chipsticks and Bovril crisps. As a substitute we get Marmite flavour crisps, but imo they're nowhere near as good as Bovril.

Nerdynerdynerd · 04/05/2026 22:47

I keep reading posts thinking "ooh that sounds delightful, must try that" then remember that the entire thread is about things being discontinued 😭😭😭😭

Pizza cheese strings are back, have been for a while :)

Green Isle do a great french bread pizza and I think Lidl and Dr. Other do too.

CoraPirbright · 04/05/2026 22:49

Does anyone remember Texan bars? From memory it was a bit like a chewy nougat sort of thing. Delish. Also spangles and pacers.

You can still get Viscount biscuits!! They are my guilty pleasure. Tescos has them sometimes but also anywhere that sells cheapo chocolate stuff!!

BarbarianBabs · 04/05/2026 22:51

Pret’s fake tuna baguette. I’m not vegan and don’t often eat from pret but loved that baguette!

JoyLoveJoyInOrbitNsoul · 04/05/2026 22:52

Viscount biscuits are a pale imitation of their 70s counterparts like most things they've went downhill, smaller ,cheap ingredients etc.

wheelywheelynice · 04/05/2026 22:59

Smith's savoury vinegar crisps. I've been pining for them for decades.

honeyfox · 04/05/2026 23:04

Haven't read the full thread but Just Right cereal has been discontinued here in Ireland and I'm gutted.

Ophir · 04/05/2026 23:07

I miss these delights - oh, how I miss bacon grills

Ophir · 04/05/2026 23:08

Also proper original coconut boosts

DilemmaDelilah · 04/05/2026 23:08

Chocolate crispy cakes, either made with cornflakes or rice crispiest. The kind that were in a flat round case, not the nuggety things you can still buy.

ballroompink · 04/05/2026 23:11

Obviously Spira, Marble and Wispa Mint bars
M&S tuna melt sandwiches from the early 2000s
DH and I always reminisce about Sara Lee pecan desserts
The coffee and praline varieties from Cadbury's Roses
These biscuits my mum used to get in the 90s - they were called Pims and were like a Jaffa Cake, but with a cherry jelly layer inside covered with white chocolate with a milk chocolate lattice pattern
Citrus Polos

AliTheMinx · 04/05/2026 23:11

Haven't RTFT, but my immediate thoughts is Sara Lee Double Chocolate Gateau... the best cake EVER!!

Ree730 · 04/05/2026 23:12

Cadburys Marble .. they were 10/10

lingmerth · 04/05/2026 23:44

As a child in the sixties and early seventies I loved Cadburys chocolate spread. It was dark chocolate, runnier than Nutella and quite shiny. I loved it on the crust of a white loaf.

Ovaltine bars. Think I last had one in the eighties. Was thrilled to discover Milo bars are really similar and stock up if I’m ever in Asia for work

OMG I bloody loved this chocolate! Where can I get a dupe please?

Edited

I don’t know if it’s the same because I never had pims, but Sainsbury’s do a box of “Bakewell” Jaffa cakes - they have cherry jelly, white chocolate with milk chocolate lattice, but also the cake part is slightly almondy. I have bought them a couple of times in the last few months.

LongDarkTeatime · 04/05/2026 23:52

Ovaltine tablets 😋

LongDarkTeatime · 04/05/2026 23:54

And I now pine for the days when Cadbury’s sold decent chocolate, and Penguin bars were covered in chocolate 😢

Rhubarb24 · 04/05/2026 23:55

Those round flat (like a coin) lollies that you used to get in the 80s/90s. Especially the toffee ones.

Mojo penny chews.

Ribena when it tasted nice.

Aldi goat's cheese, spinach and onion pizza.

Brannigan's beef and mustard crisps.

MorningStar Farms' veggie bacon. Not technically discontinued but not available in the UK. Probably banned here. Like real bacon is healthy 🙄

McDonalds' Quorn fake chicken burgers and Veggie Deluxe burgers.

Aldi "Fishmonger" raw frozen Thai and garlic and prawns.

Tooty Frooties. Tutti fruiti ice cream.

Still not over Wetherspoons discontinuing their Philly cheesesteaks and Eli's cheesecake.

So many things and most of them not very healthy!

TomatoSandwiches · 04/05/2026 14:11

Mint feasts, 1980 cherryade panda pops, Start cereal, golden grahams.

Golden Grahams are available again, in Tesco anyway.

Enigma54 · 04/05/2026 23:58

Arctic Roll. I loved it and I can’t find it anywhere!

I'm sure we bought it in Asda not long ago I may be mistaken on this.

I’m going to have to check out Asda tomorrow. I thought Iceland might have stocked it, but no.
